Great video! I was there - I ran the Yeti as my first 100-miler. Your second tip brings back pretty brutal memories of being at the Green Cove aid station, shivering uncontrollably, too nauseous to warm up with broth. But my pacer and I beat it by running out of there and going as fast as we responsibly could, and it absolutely saved my body heat and my race. Super impressive you pulled it off solo, especially with your light trouble.

It was a beast but running in that rain was an experience I'll never forget!

Congrats - totally agree on these! Ultrarunners help each other all the time. One lesson you made me think is also to never underestimate 100 miles. It's always hard, and you don't know when or why it's gonna suck - even if it's an "easy" one...

Facts! Complacency has gotten me in trouble in the past a lot!

What a race! Well, if you like pushing through the dark periods, literally and figuratively, you had a great race! 😂 That time is insane! I volunteered at the Jigger Johnson in NH- you should check it out, you'd love it! It was through the Whites, and the first 12 or so hours was in a monsoon. So many people had equipment failures, and 1 guy had 2 headlamps fail. He asked for help, and I and another volunteer, as well as several runners, offered spare headlamps. We're there because we genuinely want to help the runners succeed! It was an incredible experience, I plan on volunteering for the weekend every year. I hope you got the cats out of your lungs, and continue to kill it! (Races, not cats. )

Man that was on the list before I left NH...I might have to take a trip back up next year

Thanks for the tips and congrats on your sub 24 100 miler! I am planning for my first 100 miler later this year and am sponging all the information I can.

I have been having lots of trouble with Altra shoes lately. I am going to make a switch to new balance most likely

I'm kinda stuck because I love the wide toe box! Might play around with some Topos or something.

Great vid, great tips! Gotta train in the cold so you know you’re ok when it gets bad! Congrats on your buckle! Glad the race was on crushed gravel so you could run in the dark without falling when you didn’t have the headlamp.

Thanks! I always forget how dark a rainy trail can actually be! Learned my lesson and will be grabbing my headlamp way before I need it now.

What did you do in the military? I was an Artillery Officer during the Invasion of Iraq and then a Battalion Physician Assistant during a subsequent Iraq and Afghanistan deployment.

I was in 3rd Ranger Battalion as a normal Infantry bro, nothing as technical as a PA! I bet your PA rotation was much different than your artillery one lol. Our PA's were set up in batt and overseas!

@@WayneCapacillo I had you pegged as a Ranger just from the way you were speaking in the first 10 minutes of your video…that’s a good thing; it was very refreshing to hear.
