The lesson I learned is never to make promises. The worst in keeping promises is human beings. In moments of despair, we make promises but then forget or become complacent. Instead, ask Allah SWT to give you the ability to do good whenever the opportunity arises, and when the thought to do something good enters your heart, don't delay, because when you delay shaitan comes along and plays with that thought until he dissuades you.
