The advice about setting up your body alignment before the shift is brilliant. Thanks for another great video, DDB.

Never lose contact with the string - even if it's only 'aqua-planing' over the surface. Sound advice. I kind of figured that out from various clues 'along the way', but its great to have it confirmed unequivocally.

Shared with my students. Excellent shifting explanation.

Perfect practices, makes perfect. Noted, Jason. And I concur with sloppiness.

Thanks Geoff and Jason. That's very insightful.
Any suggestions on how to deal with shitfing across strings on the the same finger (when this cannot be avoided)?

The main thing is to keep in contact with the string. You can do that with another finger which you replace with the one you play the note with if required.

Thanks for this. Are you supposed to look at your hand? Or do you do it all by ear and muscle memory?

After a while it's ear and memory.

Geoff Chalmers says if your look it disturbs your handshake, and effects your intonation - st least in lower positions. But I confess to looking.

@@williamclark9973 Interesting. I’ve noticed that if I am looking the listening gets pushed to the back of the queue. But I don’t trust my muscle memory! Result- crap playing.
