As a former CAL-M player who was on the verge of cal-p (literally one match away and lost the spot in the m/p placement tourney), who looked up to all these players, watched all the matches, and downloaded all the demos to study, this was such a magic few years in time. My dream was to become a professional player. I don't think I have cared about anything as much as I cared about improving at CS during that time. The passion for the game was off the charts. Anyways, that period of time was such a gem, and you have made an excellent series of videos here to the point where the comprehensiveness and quality of the series is a gem itself. Thank you for making this. Excellent work.
I was in the same boat...my team made CAL-P we made the CAL-M play offs - I think we lost but I cannot remember. Our team was called Team Apathy

It's amazing to see how far these players have come in modern day CS. I'm astounded, I didn't realize that people like markeloff, starix, dosia, etc. have been playing for this long.
But sadly, they decay skill-wise with age

1.3 - 1.6 before CSS was released were the best times in CS history. Beta to retail 1.0/1.1 was still very buggy and the tactics were not very refined, plus the connections at that time were laughable and the game was almost useless online, although there were some great quake-style players back in 2000/2001. With the introduction of HLTV in 1.3 and a shitload of bugfixes and new features, the game was getting closer to the perfection that was 1.5/1.6, although the game was slowed down dramatically starting with 1.4 (bhop brake, longer wpn draw-to-fire/zoom delays, especially for awp, maxrounds standard instead of timelimit). For me it was always 1.5 > 1.3 > 1.1 > 1.6 > 1.4

What ppl from CS GO can't anderstand about those players, is that they created what PRO CS Player means today, the moves, the aim, the brain, the nades, the boosts, everything !
Even the creators of the game were amazed by how they used the maps. So those guys are not only pro, they are fucking CS genius !
I'm 30y old I used to watch the championships when I was 14, CS GO is less spectacular about aim skill, but it's better about the team strategies and the nades utility. So I anderstand the oldschool players saying that 1.6 was the real CS about aim skill, all the P90 gunlikes were way more difficult to use, so when you won an eco round, you were a fucking good player !
Still CS GO maps are not that bad once you get what Valve wanted to change, maps are less about preshooting walls,etc... But more about timing and teamplay !

Like comparing an old movie with a recent one. You need to put things in perspective and understand that when they made the first movies there was nothing like " long shot " or " plan sequence ", etc...

A bunch of people come to these videos, watch them and complain, but I don't think he ever said a list was in order from worst to best. It's just a compilation of 50 of the greatest players in a very loose order if any. It's not that these players aren't fantastically skilled or absolutely amazing, but it's possible that each list gets a slightly more revered cast of players. I think that's the case because a lot of the players on this part of the list are great players but were mostly IGLs and Role (non star) players for most of their teams, but still the best of those types.

Ля, 1.6, это все таки Легендарная игра и я один из тех людей, который застал ещё версию 1.0, 1.5, вот это были времена, просто, золотые времена, времена моего детства и моей молодости, когда я ночами и днями жил в комп-клубах, когда я весь 4 класс прогулял в комп-баре и эту игру не возможно не уважать, потому что, всё моё детство и вся моя юность связана именно с ней, да сейчас тоже играю и не только в 1.6, а так же в го, но такого драйва, такой энергии и такого интереса, как раньше увы уже нет, потому что детство и юность, это самое дорогое, что есть в жизни каждого человека, лично для меня это именно так, жаль нельзя вернуться в прошлое, хотя бы на денёк(((

Only thing i miss most from 1.6 times, is the wallbanging, i have about 1,5 years ingametime in 1.6 and 3k hours in GO and right now i'm LEM, but.. that game doesnt give the same feeling as 1.6 gave long time ago.. i could say CS will never be same again.

God I miss the days staying up super late waiting for my brother to finish playing or for him to go off to his GFS house so I could get my turn at counter - strike. We ended up taking our mom's computer and hiding it in our bathroom to set up as a server so we can customize the game as we liked with mods and DL all the awesome custom maps to play.

1.6 is godtier, Source is pretty good, CS:GO is shite. It follows the Call of Duty timeline from CoD4 onwards pretty much.. CS:GO is basically like any newer CoD game, buggy, shitty, flashy graphics and filled with kids and russians.
