Hi, Morksensei! I use intensive and extensive methods for reading and listening to a lot of interesting materials. I do it for some months. And it helps me a lot. So I highly recommend using these methods from my experience.
@@morksensei Yes, I hope my studies are going well. At my level of language, I use "Murder on the orient express" by Agatha Christie for EXTENSIVE LISTENING, as you advise in your lesson. After that(5-10 pages each time), I use the audio version for this book. On an app, I set the time of beginning and the end of a part that studied. I listen to the audio 5-10 times until I understand it almost perfectly. The first times I do it at a slower speed. One of the main characters of this audiobook has a strong French accent, and he uses so many French words. It is an additional difficulty for me.
@@ViacheslavKr Sounds like you're going about it in a good way. Foreign accents other than English does add an extra element of challenge, yes! Mysteries are always good fun, too! 5-10 times sounds about right. Try watching it later after you study of it to gauge how much more you can understand compared to the first time you listened!
@@morksensei I think you are right. I must get a habit of returning to already studied material. And even return to the books that I read but never listened to. It can be The Great Gatsby for me.
Hi, Morksensei! I've got one question about extensive listening. How to choose an accent of English for such listening? For example, I prefer modern RP when I speak but I must understand "every" accent of English. Not so many people in the world use modern RP. Maybe 2-3 per cent. How organize my listening in such a situation?
You want to listen to more RP? Well, that is going to be perhaps a little tricky. These days in English language education there is a trend to expose learners to as many different accents as possible, without bias or judgement. Even on American proficiency tests you will hear a variety of accents. However, I would suggest you focus on certain English news channels, like the BBC.
@@morksensei Thank you, teacher, for a quick answer. Interesting as usual. I understand that I must listen to every possible accent of English. Yesterday I saw on TV a former "big man" from the Afgan government. It was a great story of his, but the accent was so difficult to understand. When I see pronunciation lessons, on youtube I prefer RP. Am I right? By the way, I like your accent too. It is such a pleasant voice.
Hi miss what kind of material do you recommended me to improve my listening, sometimes I struggle with listening, can you help me please, I want to better my listening, thanks in advance.
You are really great Professor !
