Thank you for the tour, very interesting. The flat gravestones look like they have been laid flat deliberately for safety reasons. Making a memorial safe is the responsibility of the grave owner, but probably all the grave owners have passed on. It would be very expensive for the Council to re-erect them in a safe condition. It's a shame, but better than a gravestone toppling onto a child.

    Thankyou
Such a peaceful place with so much history and memories.
I think I recall all the white headstones that go in a curve are soldiers of the war
Good video! Thanks for showing us

I have a number of ancestors buried at Anfield. As DM notes below, I think a number of these memorials have been laid down as they may have been precariously placed and likely to fall as the ground has shifted over the years. This was a very enjoyable watch. Thank you. 🥰

Some of the stones look like they've been laid down on purpose, and the condition of the WWII civilian memorial is shameful to say the least. I thoroughly enjoyed the assortment of hand crafted stonework in this cemetery. Thank you.

The picture beneath the heart on the Brennan's headstone is that of Saint Pio of Pietrelcina (also known as Padre Pio), who was a Franciscan friar, priest, and mystic. He is the first priest to bear the marks of the Stigmata (the Wounds of Christ on the side, feet and hands) on his body. He is a well-loved and revered saint of the Roman Catholic Church.
    He's not a family member.

Hello Boots Mc tee just watched 2 year old video of Anfield cemetery . Very interesting thank you . Just to say grave headstones are managed by cemetery and are laid flat for health and safety reasons . It’s not vandalism 🇬🇧🇬🇧

The head stones have been placed like this for a reason by Liverpool City Council by permission of the families! It stops vandels knocking them over, even though this does happen from time to time, not sure if other city councils does the same

This might not be the local bad boys knocking over the stones. My local cemetery has a lot of these older stones lying down due to the local council getting all safety aware. Now all headstones have to be fixed properly into the ground so they don't topple over.

You should see some of the rural cemeteries in the U.S.A. Vandalism is very much an issue. There does not appear to be any mandate to keep the cemeteries mowed etc. Monuments fall down or are victims of the vandals and not repaired.

The stones are laid down not pushed over as a safety precaution.

I would say you did enter through the main entrance, there are only a few gateways accessible by vehicle, the other few entrances are gateways for pedestrians.

I think the wind has blown the gravestones down, there is a fierce wind comes up off the River Mersey.

Your insistence that some headstones have been pushed over is wide of the mark. Some headstones are deliberately laid flat but some have fallen because of subsidence in the ground.

Excellent video. Do The Welsh retain more of their culture, than the other cultures in U.K.? e.g. Irish and Scotts.

Liverpool is in Merseyside even though a small part of it was in the district of Lancashire up until the mid 70’s but it’s merseyside now

Due to a nasty accident and one of the old stones falling, the stones were laid down for safety reasons, a little research beforehand, wouldn't have gone a miss, you make us sound disrespectful to our dead, bit rude referring "like a bombsite"! bit anoyed you kept saying it
Also theyre catacombs and are under restoration!

I wonder if many of the citizens of Anfield, know of the memorials which are in a poor state, it would not take alot of effort to right the wrongs

I have a distant relation buried here called Robert Irwin 1910, a child, buried in a paupers grave. His parents are from Cloonboygher, County Leitrim. RIP.
