I knew Greenville was pleasant. Whenever you have a good collection of historical buildings, it serves to highlight just how uninspiring and bland so much modern architecture is. Greenville wouldn't be what it is without its historic core and the park and waterfall.

This was super helpful. I've been looking at the official Greenville videos for tourism and they make the whole town look like a resort. This is much more realistic. Still very lovely, but not flawless. I agree with others that it looks larger from your drive than a 70K city. Hope they don't over build and take away the quaintness too much. There was sadly, even some graffiti. But great job presenting a clear picture. Next stop, a visit to Greenville!

It almost as nice as Columbia. (I live there) But I have to say Greenville has a lot more of a big city/small town feel. Definitely less homeless people! There is a lot more development going on around the city. Columbia sometimes looks like it’s at a standstill with construction opportunities.

    • @MileageMikeTravels

Yeah Greenville definitely looks like it's growing faster. In terms of metro population it's now #1 in South Carolina.

I live in SC and Colombia is by far my least favorite part of the state. It always feels like the most impoverished and generally unclean part of the state. Greenville beats it by a long shot in my opinion.

Thats because Greenville was made rich from tourism from the late 1800s from the rich slave owners that lived in Charleston n the midland n surrounding states. Greenville/pleasantburg was their vacation spot to escape the heat of Charleston n the midlands etc...Greenville become the richest county in South Carolina off the rich

I've lived here my entire life (36 years)...it is NOT as great as so many say. Yes, there are restaurants and cute shops, but it's CRAMPED, traffic is awful, construction everywhere, and it's become 80% apartments and condos. The zoo is "okay", there is a nice little history museum/art gallery/main library. The park is pretty but again...overcrowded for its size and parking is abysmal. All events downtown are packed shoulder to shoulder and are a nightmare to try and attend. 20 years ago, it was PERFECT for that small town/city feel. You felt like you were part of the community when you attended events. Now it's just PEOPLE PEOPLE PEOPLE and I don't enjoy living here.

I moved from Greenville County a few years ago to San Diego. Greenville has a bus system, if you can call it that, but it shuts down by 6PM, and doesn't even run on Sunday. And so many areas aren't covered. Was nice to move somewhere with a real transit system. Now I drive less than 2,000 miles a year. Used to drive about 25,000 a year in SC. My insurance dropped like a rock when I got here.

    • @sonyadakers3984

There are always people downtown walking around. This had to be early in the day when people are at work. Public transportation isn’t that important when the area isn’t that big. Very walkable. Too much construction right now. Since covid I haven’t been downtown much. I cant wait for main street jazz and downtown alive to come back.
