I think that the cheap controllers have one advantage. You can get them cheap and working with the old systems. I own a USB version of the SNES, NES and Sega controllers. And yeah, the build quality isnt the best on earth, I admit that. I also glued the "Sega" controller cord in place to prevent from accidently ripping the cables from the board. I bought them for my gaming SBC, and I didnt experienced any problems with configuring them. I got the USB versions, because I needed them for the USB ports, if it would be easy enough, Id go for the old fashioned pin connectors and reuse my original Sega controllers. But for many kids today interest in retro gaming may come to installing an emulator on their phone or tablet instead of using the real thing. Imagine a kid discovering SNES at his attic with no controllers, cords, games etc. Personally Id go and buy some knock-off peripherials and game just to test this thing. If it would work, and got me into gaming, then probably I'd decide to buy the real deal. Here this stuff is actually kinda expensive. You can get the working SNES for around 50$, but then you have to spend about 25$ for a controller, and often more than 30$ for a game. Soon Ill have to buy a knock-off Dreamcast AV cable, because those are sold for less than original used RF, and I have nothing else to test it.
So glad to see you upload videos again, it's really got me into buying games consoles to repair, currently working on a nintendo nes with flashing red light
The only question I have is do they function? If they function well enough then they are good enough for letting kids use keeping originals tucked away.:)
i have one of these, after the years the dpad does not work correctly because it just randomly stops while you're holding it down and feels too light and cheap
I was gonna get something similar to these until I discovered the 8bitdo controllers, you definitely get what you pay for when it comes to anything in life
I agree, unless it's is on par or superior to the OEM. I have both an OEM and an 8bitdo wireless and prefer the 8bitdo. However, I would've been perfectly content with just using the OEM. When I bought the SNES it came with a junk controller just like the ones in the video and it's total shit. I mean absolute unusable junk, so I replaced it.
I bought one of those Buffalo SNES controllers for my Pi and every few minutes it has a "phantom input" (left or right). Im pretty sure its not the Pi itself, as ive checked and done all the remedies for it on that end. Would you have any idea whats going on with it?
Darish Zone- yeah thats why I bought them, they were rated the highest out of all the SNES clone controllers. Its not exactly terrible, but its noticeable. Too noticeable for 20$
Perhaps you can use these SNES controllers putting inside a Raspberry Pi Zero making them SNES controller consoles playing all SNES games only. This was done on Anthony Caccese's TH-cam Video. th-cam.com/video/j5dXx0NhLxg/w-d-xo.html
Truth be told, I prefer these to some of the weird third party controllers, but they are pretty junky. There's a reason they cost only a couple dollars instead of 10-15. I bought a bunch of sfc controllers on eBay I'm waiting to come in from China. You can bet there will be a video when they do

Kieron Alder good luck. It's definitely rewarding when you can get old "junk" working properly again
Some time I wonder “why go through all the trouble of making it LOOK as close as the real thing , just to go cheap”
The only question I have is do they function? If they function well enough then they are good enough for letting kids use keeping originals tucked away.:)
They do. For a couple bucks, they're more than suitable. Just don't feel nearly as high quality
I don't get why Nintendo doesn't manufacture a million legit ones and sell them for a limited time.
Because they are careless just wanted more money they care about

Question. do you think a board from a USB SNES controller be able to fit inside of an orginal's shell?
I was gonna get something similar to these until I discovered the 8bitdo controllers, you definitely get what you pay for when it comes to anything in life
I would just toss those knockoff's straight into the trash! Yuck! OEM OR BUST!
EXACTLY.
You can get OEM controllers on Ebay for about 3 bucks if you find a decent repair lot. Not uncommon.

Are you posting a comment on this vid every 2 years? I'm worried you didn't post this year yet.

I like the original equipment manufactured controller they last a very long time if well taken care of
where can i buy the original snes controller???
Ebay or a pawn shop would be your best bet
Kijiji and Gamestop
They don’t work on snes oo1 models
I got a couple of these for my retropi and it just feels really cheap and the plastic is really brittle
henrymca better than nothing, but only barely.
Also I recommend a video about the Retron 3. Mine has no video output on any mode
If I can find one to tinker with at a reasonable price, I'll see what I can do. Currently perusing eBay for some good repairs.
I got some usb snes controllers for my emulator lol just for fun
I NEEDED AN UPLOAD
I'd be lying if I said it wasn't just for you.
I've got a couple other things I want to get started on soon, so stay tuned!
Thnaks! Keep up the great content!
How are you finding this stuff so cheap? I look for broken SNES consoles and they want over $100 for 4 and you get 6 for $20! JEALOUS!!!
6 for 20 was by far my best find. I just threw a low bid on it and nobody else bid. Usually they get way too expensive. Just have to keep trying
My sister just bought a cheap snes controller that looks like those in the video and the input lag i horrendous! Complete junk
I fucking love your videos
Carter G thanks. I'm hoping to get them uploaded more regularly now that summer is over
RetroRepairs Sweet. I really enjoyed watching your RROD repair it helped me a lot!
Carter G great to hear. Happy to help

Nice video😔🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂
Well. It is actual trash. I seen a lot of better replicas for same or little bit bigger price. XD
Eeeew...clone controllers. Pure and utter trash!
OEM OR BUST!

real boring vid, man.
I had one of these 3rd party controllers brand new out of the packaging the junk didn't work, plugged it in and only the B button worked
