In the US, we now have waterproof laminates that also provide improved sound absorption. One of the reasons I chose laminate is that it does not discolor under direct sunlight, which is a common issue with most LVT. However, LVT is still a great option for bathrooms and areas with less sunlight and higher foot traffic.
@ it says they are water proof. “STAINMASTER Pet Protect Waterproof Laminate Flooring is durable, stain- resistant, and easy to clean-ideal for living areas, kitchens, hallways, & more • CLAW SHIELD™ resists pet scratches and ACTIVE LIFE SHIELD™ provides dent and abrasion resistance, and makes floors easy to clean • Waterproof surface coating is 2X more impact resistant and wear resistant than standard residential grade laminate and has an AC4 rated wear layer”
Yes, interesting...waterproof surface doesn't mean that the laminate is Waterproof. That might be misleading... If water gets inbetween the joins then it will affect the laminate core and cause it to swell up... just like every other laminate flooring.
Great question! I shared my favourite Engineered Wood flooring on this video (links in description of the vid): th-cam.com/video/t4FZ-hUH_oc/w-d-xo.html
Please be careful of engineered flooring. It is made of ply core and a thin veneer on top. As a builder I've seen them completely delaminate and buckle from just a small amount of water damage
Just spent like a year trying to pick flooring. A huge issue is the offgasing and enviro impact of lvp. It's literally pvc (which is toxic, although some new brands are coming out with pvc free lvp) and its just plastic. It'll sit in the landfill for the rest of time. New laminates are so much better from what was around 10 or even 5 years ago. We have revwood and Karastan here which are super water resistant, look and feel like real wood, and a lot more scratch resistant which I need with my dog
Yes, it can sometimes give off a smell when first installed, which is typically due to off-gassing of VOCs from the materials used in its manufacturing. But it quickly dissipates after hours or a day or two (air the room). Not all LVT products are the same though, and the levels of VOCs can vary significantly depending on the brand you use.

Thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts! Are the laminates waterproof or water resistant? Very curious :)

Please recommend an engineered wood flooring compatible with underfloor heating and good longevity!
Great, helpful videos ❤

I would really like your thoughts on other hard flooring options - tiles, micro concrete etc Thanks
Thanks for watching Jean! Tiles are something I can talk about for hours (see other video) 😂 I'll work on more x

We had no off gassing, no odor.
In the States, I recommend Flooret for LVT.
Thanks for watching & your recommendation, Maria 😍

Doesn’t LVT have a chemical smell in your home & in fact can be toxic???

Tiles, engineered wood and bamboo with underfloor heating please!
