      considering the fact that the source of the golden order is a primordial outer god, and that outer space is very neatly tied to gravity magic in regards to worldbuilding, it isn't impossible. Although, gravity magic is color coded exclusively to be purple in the game, so it's rather unlikely.

That being said, the Erd Tree takes root deep deep underground to a level where you can fight Astel the Naturalborn--geographically. it's in a different area, however, but the fact someone of Empyrean lineage can learn and use magic hints at something. it is more likely than you think. Not to mention the young and minor Erdtrees that can sprout wherever it so pleases.
      Although, Gravity and other sorcery is under the umbrella where people learned these abilities, so it may be that it is of a different nature to the erdtree entirely... but this doesn't explain the weird end game boss flying about. I was watching a documentary recently that explained one factor that allowed the Redwoods to grow so tall was fog. It stated that thick fog was natural to the area and allowed the trees to absorb some of their water through their leaves and trunks, reducing the need to pull it up from the ground. If this does play a role in their height, how does this change the theoretical limit (if it does at all)?

    You know, the boiling might actually be what would help trees that tall. They would need a "vacuum tube" (in which water is pushed to make it to high elevations) in which water to boil, the vapors to rise, and then liquid water to be condensed by the biological heatsink known as leaves and branches. And if the bark is transparent and vacuum tubes are dark colored, with air-bubble gaps to insulate the exterior of the vacuum tube, then sunlight alone might be enough to help the vapors keep remaining water vapors and keep rising just as fast instead of stopping their rise part-way through. This could allow trees on Earth to reach the orbit, if carefully designed and aided to do so.

    • @xantishayde-walker4593
      @xantishayde-walker4593 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good theory, until you said they *could* be *designed* to reach Earth orbit. They don't naturally...so....then they can't do it naturally because, if they could, we'd have found them.

    • @xantishayde-walker4593
      @xantishayde-walker4593 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@GambitsEnd No but it would be reasonable to assume that it could very well exist, due to the fact of my having a computer and phone which allow me the ability to leave such comments, internet access thru said devices, the ability to see, hear and feel in order to be able to post such comments, access to the platform on which comments are left, an account in good standing that enables me to leave such comments and the knowledge to access and use the platform to post such comments.
      So therefore, it's very reasonable to assume that one such as myself could not only possibly leave a comment, like I have, they could also assume it's probable that I would, seeing as I am interested in debating such things.
      Now, it's not probable for such trees to exist, like we see in Elden Ring, mainly because we have no evidence of any such tress existing due to the fact that none have ever been discovered, as far as I know.
      It's also fairly improbable for such trees to exist because none have ever been discovered, that I'm aware of. The closest thing we have on Earth would be the "General Sherman" Giant Sequoia in the Sequoia National Park, which is 274.9 *ft* high or about 84 meters.
      It's bark is not transparent, it doesn't seem to have dark tubes to carry moisture up to the top of the tree and it's naturally occurring. While it's fantastic and out of the range of what most people experience, it's an everyday observation that they are there, for the people who live and work near or in the forest and any who visit on a regular basis.
      So, for a tree to exist that is orders of magnitude larger than that, say oh Idk, ~14k ft or 4.4k meters tall, is at the least extremely improbable if not nearly impossible to believe.

    11:24 Something that might interest folks: farmers and loggers have been using a variation of this phenomenon to kill invasive gorse and scotch broom in my area for years. They make a deep cut in the plant and smother it with a mixture of fertilizer and heavy duty herbicide. The idea is that the injured plant will suck up the nutrients in an effort to repair itself, but die from the poison it takes in. Kind of like hiding arsenic in cake. Now, I can show this clip to all the old-timers and let them know they can skip the fertilizer. Negative pressure will take care of the rest. 😁👍🤣

    This is probably the earliest I've ever been to one of your videos so I'll take another crack at it. I would LOVE to see you crunch the numbers for the "Rhino Stomp" in Warframe. The ability states "Rhino stomps with force sufficient to disrupt time". No weird energy or tech bs just straight force since there is another frame that messes with time but specifically states she's using a device to do so while this specifies force. Now theoretically it is possible to disrupt time with a significant enough burst of energy but I'm fairly certain the forces required to do so would wipe a planet clean of life if not blink it out of existence.

    Btw what Kyle is saying about delayed input is true but it has a reason. The dodge button is the same button as sprint and you hold to sprint. So the game has to figure out whether you're trying to sprint or dodge. So it just lets you dodge on release, not on press. If it did it on press you couldn't sprint. If they put dodge on A/X then sprint jumping would be very difficult. And other buttons would be awkward or have their own problems. So this is what we get.

Gliese 436B, a planet in the leo constellation that is x15 closer to its star then Mercury is to ours, travels around its star in 2 1/5 days, its surface temperature is 840F. Yet despite being beyond its own melting point, its surface is entirely covered in ice. Now I realize that because of its immense gravity that the few trace amounts of water vapor that manage to form are then (by gravity) forced back into a solid. So if a planet like that, and many other strange and bizarre planets like it, can exist. Im sure that theres one out there somewhere with 500m tall trees. And id love to see it someday.

    Counterpoint: when you look at the Erdtree from a distance (and maybe also up close? I haven't gotten close enough to check) it's semi-transparent. You can see land and structures on the far side of the tree, through its trunk. And there are Erdtree saplings dotted around the map that are also golden yellow, yet transparent. A hollow tree, however that might work, would be much lighter than a solid tree, and could be much more capable of growing to incredible heights, taller than Earthly redwoods and potentially as tall as the Erdtree.
    That said, such trees have no true analogue here on Earth, so it's impossible to speculate how they might work.

  • @thepooz7205
    @thepooz7205 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Ok, you covered how TALL a tree can get. Now, consider a tree of the same proportions as visible in that game, and what other factors could limit overall size. For instance, calculate how thick those main branches from the trunk are, and determine if they could support the weight they apparently are, or withstand shear forces created by relatively normal wind conditions. This could force your max height waaaay down for a tree this shape, further limiting the range of possible mass and volume of the planet (or vice versa).
    OR… do measurements in game (like gravitational acceleration tests, and assuming the tree is the max size a tree can be) to attempt to determine the actual mass and volume of the world the game takes place on. You know, for fun. I definitely won’t do it, but I’d watch it!

    If you're talking about startup animations, fromsoft uses that for the same reason other games like Smash and other action/fighting games include it as well. It's because having startup animations means in a boss fight you need to react quickly and pay attention to the boss' animations in advance of the attack coming out. In PVP it's way more important. Not having startup runs the danger of either nobody being able to hit eachother because anybody can just immediately roll out of an attack, or attacks come out almost immediately and they become completely unavoidable.

    In a lot of cases, using the argument "it exists because of magic" would be a copout, but in the case of the Erdtrees of Elden Ring, it would actually help describe why they exist. Simply put, as far as the game is concerned, the Erdtrees are pretty much like massive, eldritch, magical parasites, thriving off of the dead of the land. Hell, some may think that they aren't really trees, but rather aliens, ancient aliens.
    Also, if we're to try and figure out the relative size and mass of the world that the Lands Between exists on, we could perhaps take the fall speed of the game in mind and consider that the speed at which stuff falls relative to that world's gravity, and in turn finding out the possible gravity of said world? It may not help much in the grand scheme of things, but it's at least a starting point.

      why should it even have gravity if the world doesnt operate by the same law if physics that we have to begin with? lol

    Nice but as gravity goes down so does atmosphere density. So instead of taking a little bit of magic, it would take a lot! of magic.

    What if it was planted on something like Mars with less gravity it should grow twice as tall. Of course you would run into issues of needing liquid water for the tree to drink... Maybe one could be planted at the bottom of Hellas impact basin, which according to Google 8km (5 miles) the reference level. Being that low may increase the air pressure as well meaning there would be more co2 for Mr., Or Mrs. tree to breath. :) Of course introducing non native plants to Mars mat be a bad idea, but this is a thought experiment after all. :)

    Sometimes I wonder if the tree N4 holla and the Tree of Life in mythology could in fact become that large. Much like the tree in Elden ring or Secret of Mana games. And if possible, how long would it really take? And to that point how large could any other tree grow, much like the Giant Sequoia?
