    Across New South Wales and Victoria the bush fires raged, joining to form an almighty violent blaze that took lives and consumed two and a half million hectares of National Park and grazing land, and hundreds of suburban homes in the National Capital. The intensity and power of this year's fires has never been experienced before, and as the clean up continues, those in the know are bitterly divided over whether it was poor fire management in the National Parks that was to blame.
