I did seed trays this year and last, and just learned about soil blocking. Thank you for the video, this is what I'll do next year!

I personally don't think the divet is important at all. I don't bury any of my seeds anyways. I think you could just put the seed on top and put a tiny bit of soil on top, that way you don't disturb the square. I've never had to bury any seeds in the last 10 years. It's like nature they fall on top of the soil anyways.

Some seeds are just round and ready to roll -- I think it helps contain them.

Did you try flipping your pan over and taking them all out at once. I like this idea for making soil blocks, going to try it yet this year. thx.

I don't think that would work... you don't want them landing on their little heads [stems]. But they are not hard to get out with a thin knife.

@@leilamlawler I should have said after you had made them, to use individually

How long it takes to dry?

How did this work out? I saw another video that suggested having soil blocks in a daisy tray that was then placed into the 1020 tray, so the roots would not mat on the bottom of the tray without holes. Did this happen for you? Thank you!

No, the roots didn't mat. The plants grew very well! That one tray that I showed towards the end with the holes in the sides was placed in another tray.

When you watered them did they separate or combine?

    • @leilamlawler

They stayed separate. I misted them and watered carefully.

This looks like how I pressed coconut candy & cut into square & sold at school for event more than 50+ years ago. Those were the days no big pharma, no soda, no mobile phone. Door were open. Nobody will ride away your bicycle wherever you parked & ride. With advance technology the world hasn't got better.
