This is probably one of the most power scenes in the entire show. It echos throughout the entire series. AMAZING! this episode is a masterpiece no question.

I always thought that ares in some way had something to do with this. The fire, the wind, the way xena seemed unsure. I always felt that's the 1 major secret ares kept from our girl.

@@lynnlRDR-RDR2 I don't fully agree. Both Lucy and Renee have some Xena and Gabrielle traits in real life. But there are many differences too. Lucy is much more hyper and loud (and I don't mean it in a bad way ;)) than Xena but shares Xena's humor and playfullness whenever it showed on the show (but then hightened and morr frequently as Lucy. Xena only occasionally showed this side. Lucy is a huge goofball). Renee is much more introverted as Gabrielle. She's more quiet and does not have the temper Gabrielle has. Renee however shares that 'light', that 'glow' Gabrielle has. Renee just oozes compassion and kindness. She's very sweet :3
The way she says "ordinary," you can hear Lucy's NZ accent slip out.

Not only Xena kept her promise to not become a monster if anything happened to Gabrielle but she went beyond that promise later on at the beginning of season 4, where Xena was looking for Gabrielle in the Amazon afterlife after Gabrielle died to stop Hope in the season 3 finale. Xena chose to help the Northern Amazons deal with Alti over finding Gabrielle.

It just makes me think of the cycle of revenge in last of us 2. Joel killing Abby’s father began the cycle, which led to Abby’s revenge to kill Joel, and made Ellie start her own vengeance quest, which just ends in the deaths of many, and not just enemies. Ellie would of continued the cycle even more if she had killed Abby and Lev would of been on a quest. Instead Ellie decided to let go of revenge. The damage may of been done, but there is hope for the future.
This makes me cry.

This might sound very wrong but I love that xena added Hercules in there and I love how Gabrielle encouraged her not to go back to who she was! I just wish we could of seen more xena and Hercules
Yes I agree! I love that Xena added Hercules here! The shows were still connected at the beginning of their seasons 1-3. I wish we had more crossover episodes.
Well, Hercules was the reason she turned from her old path.
It’s not “wrong” in the slightest. It’s so good that Xena mentions Hercules here; that’s such a great decision.
OMG. you RUINED this by cutting off the end! Those 2 seconds of both of them looking into the fire with that music (which you stepped on) was so beautiful. Ack! I was going to download this so that I always have the scene, but seriously, you couildn't have left the scene play for 2 more seconds before trampling it with the Xena theme & "Click here" thumbnails for 2 other scenes that aren't nearly as powerful or important as this one?! Booo! This was the first ep of Xena I ever saw. It was the ep that got me interested in the show & this is the scene I've always remembered & played in my head again & again, over 2 decades later. You should re-edit this so you don't interrupt the scene with that abrupt & jarring editing!
I love the dynamic between Xena and Callisto. The only reason Callisto is seen as the villain is because Xena changed her ways. But who is really right here?
Thats easy. Xena. She was able to acknowledge the side of her that brought destruction, while callisto's hate and lust for revenge turned her into a monster, which knows how to make hell feel like home, and doesn't hasitate to kill innocents. Thankfully for Callisto, Xena's compassion saved her in the last moment...

Callisto, being one of a hand full of survivors dedicates her life to essentially, avenge her tribe. In turn, becoming one of the greatest warriors the world has ever seen. Callisto challenges Xena with a small army that she leads full of men. Somehow matches Xena's fighting skills, even though Xena had years on years of experience being a warlord. Callisto dies, but the gods are so impressed with her, they not only give her a chance at life, but eternal life from the Golden Apple of the Tree of Life. She outplays Hercules, becomes immortal. Assist Xena in helping save Gabrielle from the Amazonian Goddess Velasca. Callisto eats ambrosia, becomes a goddess herself. Makes Aries look like a chump😒. Plays a hand in the death of Xena's son. Then decides she's bored of being a God and nothing would fill the void of her broken soul. Callisto said "she's not crazy, just misunderstood", I take that to heart. Xena's world is very cruel, it operates on warrior's code, and by that code, Callisto herself wasn't exactly evil. She didn't care about good and evil. She just had a goal and was willing to do whatever it took to achieve it. Xena actually broke that code when she allowed Callisto to die the way she did the first time. Which is how their story became so unique. Instead of continuing to be a victim to the monsters of the world, Callisto became a warrior that even the gods themselves came to fear. The fact that Xena redeemed from her Sins, put Calisto in that role she had to play. But it wouldn't have mattered to Callisto either way because in her mind, she had a duty that had to be fulfilled. In the end it turned out great for both of them. If you've read this, sorry that its so long. But like I said, I love the dynamic between these two awesome characters, backed by spectacular writing. I just found it so cool.
I don't care what no one says, Marcus was not the love of Xena's life. If HTLJ ended sooner, Hercules would've been IT for her. He really changed her, Gabrielle just made it stick.
