lol Me too! 😄When I absolutely have to be somewhere I can (mostly ; - ) brute force my morning routine now that I finally have the right tools (a written checklist & other environmental cues, Habit Stacking, Temptation Bundling, etc....). But I dream of the EASE and benefits of truly ingrained routines that put things like getting out the door on time, exercising, tidying, and getting ready for bed more on autopilot. 😍Half the battle is remembering it's worth it, which it IS! 🤪😟 vs. 😌😃Slow and steady wins the race. May we all have good luck setting up those dominoes! 🍀
Mine is just to establish a regular sleep cycle so I can later build on other routines and oh boy is it not going well. It's almost like making it important has made it harder to actually follow through on. But not making it important doesn't work either...
You and your team are doing great things. I hope your C-section is routine and uncomplicated. Good luck! We'll be here when you're ready to come back. In the meantime, your team has your back.
I don't have ADHD but I have chronic depression and have been working my way out of a depressive state. This in the middle of a change in houses and expectations in career migration. In the middle of all this craziness I had to press the "pause" button and remember that, before I am able to make the bigger stuff (such as prospect clients for my new career, get equipment, etc) I need to do the basic stuff: EAT. SLEEP. DRINK WATER. EXERCISE. CLEAN MY HOUSE AND MYSELF. Therefore, routine is the first thing to be established over here now that the mess is gone. Videos such as yours remind me of that. Thank you very much! Also, all the best with Baby Brain
I finally got things in order after moving and re-entering the workforce, but then a shuffle of 3 new roommates in 6 months, *plus* a troublesome tenant in the same house... _not doing great._ Anxiety & Depression over here, doesn't help that the newmates aren't as proactive on the chore schedule as me and the other OG mate. Feels hopeless, but hey, I'm still going to work and sustaining in some capacity, that counts for *a lot.*
Hi Jessica. I’ve never commented before. This is my first day with medicine after my adult diagnosis. I love seeing your videos and they have helped me better understand myself and even better explain my symptoms to my WONDERFUL psychiatrist. Looking to build that routine with my also WONDERFUL new therapist this year and beyond. Your smile is infectious and your generally upbeat mood is wonderful. With all the negative feedback I can use some positivity. And early CONGRATS on your baby!🎉
Happy birthday to a newly born mother and father!🎉 hope all went well and sleep deprivation will stay manageable for you the next days…and weeks…and months 😅
Routines absolutely can help, and I've seen the difference with my Dad since he retired and doesn't have the routine of work, even though his work schedule wasn't really routine (he still had the routine of getting ready to go, the commute, and the work itself). He and I are both undiagnosed adults, but my Mom and I have figured it out. He's in denial and I'm learning all I can to understand and explain why we are the way we are. My routines have never been full day routines (not since high school a long time ago), but I can definitely relate to making a routine being a struggle and a half, and to having that routine disrupted. There are days when I end up going without brushing my teeth because my routine gets disrupted before that point happens, and my brain just tells me it's all done. In fact, my brain often tends to be scrambled all day if my morning routine is broken. I've also been struggling for years trying to figure out a routine that includes the garbage. We have strict rules about when it can go out (I don't have recycling or compost, that would completely undo me), but there's only a 2 hour time period once a week when it can go out (or later if they haven't shown up yet and you're lucky), and that window of time is generally when I'm asleep, so I have to change my sleep schedule to work around putting out the garbage. Needless to say, I often either forget what day it is (I remember what day garbage day is, it just doesn't click when it is that day), or I sleep through it, resulting in missing the week.
I love that you got mad at your past self for a moment. I remember watching that video after watching more of your recent content, and I felt the same way.
Can confirm, having a kid was like throwing a hand grenade on those dominos. Not just because there's a massive amount of new tasks to add to the routine, but also once they reach the age where everything's a toy, your point of performance goes out the window. My ADHD went from almost imperceptible with lots of well-tuned routines and coping mechanisms to completely out of control. I'm in the rebuilding process now and I've found involving my daughter in some of the routines and POP setups not only gives me an accountability buddy, but also sets her up for future success. It took us 4 years, but hopefully just knowing to look out for that will help prevent some of the chaos.
I like the Rewind idea! I like props! And I'm totally using Routines (sometimes I call them Rituals because that feels More Important And Worthwhile). Happy birthday, Tiny Jessica Offspring!
This is a great idea! Also, that mini set was ADORABLE. Hope your delivery went well and that you and baby are well! I also miss the props, so it would be fun to have more of those in the future.
omg i forgot how adorable (and relatable) the little finger puppet character was! XD I've been trying to employ the habit linking thing in my life since this video originally came out and it has been VERY slow going. But I do successfully finish all my bathroom grooming tasks in the bathroom every morning... as long as I either shower or use the toilet as soon as I wake up! On the days I don't do either of those, my teeth go unbrushed until halfway through the morning when i realize my mouth feels gross lol... but it still works most days! I do need to switch the trigger to "getting out of bed" to make it more reliable.
Right?! The finger puppets are great! But it's so great to hear you've a routine that's working for ya! Yeah... yeah I should probably do similarly and switch my trigger to 'getting out of bed' too lol
This one is great. I had developed some really effective morning routines over years of slowly building up, and then covid happened and I could never get back to it. I think this video highlights pretty clearly what the issue is. I tried to just start again with the entire routine, which was impossible. This has given me some pretty good ideas on how to solve it
This was really useful. Thanks for sharing it Jess. I've been trying to create habits for over 10 years since I was 15 but nothing seemed to stick and it made me give up on personal development for a while. I'm going to try this techinique and see how I go. Will keep you posted
I love this idea. I remember watching your video about how some of your old videos were a bit ableist, and the idea of you watching through them and adding/subtracting is really cool! It also kind of feels like I'm watching Behind the Scenes Footage and I love watching and hearing stuff like that. Sending positive vibes to parents and baby. Be Safe!
I loved this part with struggling to knock over dominos and then leaving most important ones to look for cooler ones :D I've helped people SO MANY times because I just didn't want to do what I was supposed to!
I love this "react to past me" video! Information is always evolving in health care, so it only makes sense to do these kinds of videos. They should be a lot more common, keep'em comin'!
Yes!! I love this video concept! I have been thinking about how I want to rewatch some of the older videos, but it honestly seems overwhelming to pick which to watch. You picking for me and commenting with updates is awesome!!
Finally ordered the anti-planner. My adhd-mind going through the check-list: Do I have the extra money? Yes I kinda do. Do I really need this? Well, I've been wanting this book ever since I heard it was coming, so not an impulse buy. Also reduced price with the code. Sold!
I miss the old intro so much 😭 it was perfect in my opinion, I don't understand why it was changed 😕 Anyway, this is fun, looking back at old videos! I love how you used to structure your videos. I found your channel in 2017 through the "how to know if you have ADHD" video and then watching "ADHD in girls" (the two of them set me on a path to diagnosis which I finally got in the summer of 2019) and those were structured in a similar way. Not that I don't like your new videos, they're also awesome! But the old ones really have a feeling of nostalgia attached to them even though it hasn't been that long yet 🙈 Also doing this is so useful for you as well. You said you made the channel to put all the information you found in a place you won't lose it. But of course to not forget about it, you'd have to rewatch your own videos from time to time. Which is what you're doing now 🎉 Also I hope the C-section went well and you and your daughter are doing well 🤗♥️
I don't have a specific video to recommend, but I like the idea of revisiting topics in this format from time to time. I've gotten the impression that your strategies for living with ADHD have changed from time to time, and it would be nice to see you revisit some past topics and offer any insight into how things may have changed for you. I'd also see it as an opportunity to review and refresh some of these topics myself.
I think these videos will always be warranted. As the science changes, as your life changes, it will be good and some times necessary to review. We want the content to live forever, but with that, eventually, one day, if you outlast the problems of being a content creator on YT, you might find something that actually does need updating. I liked it, and I hope you do more of these.
Even if you hadn’t much to add on this one, the interaction (well… ok no, but got what I meant, right?) helps to get - or re-get, can’t remember - the points… thanks, love it!!
thank you for being you. my therapist told me about your account. i was diagnosed with bpd before my recent therapist and we figured out i had adhd. your channel has helped me so much already.
Awesome not only do I want to see the next video but I will look forward to a follow up video to see how you are going to implement your new routines ( months down the line of course since your life is about to be chaotic no matter what for a bit 😊’
Rewind videos sound like a great thing to do while you're getting used to being a parent! Maybe not 100% of your videos for the next 6mo, lol, but i liked this!
Have been watching your videos for about a year now and finally got diagnosed ten days ago. Bought your book right the next day. Thanks for being there for us when not a lot of people are 💜
That video was a masterpiece! So many hilarious details (which I did not notice the first time because I was taking in the high quality information). I bet you laughed a lot while filming it. Keep up the animations, the care and the fun: all ingredients that made the past videos excellent! ✨
Everything .. The absolute favourite is the new habit which comes wrapped in packaging 😂 Executive malfunction The fingers are very good actors and I am a big fun of googly eyes. Also the miniature at the beginning is fantastic 😁
That was the funnest video with your little 'legs' and dominoes. It cracked me up plus it had a really good message. I'm going to tell my 2 adult adhd kids about it. haha
yes i absolutely adore this concept. past jessica was mad knowledgeable as well and the videos are evergreen. hindsight is 20/20 so viewing them in retrospect can add even more value to already incredible videos
Wow, this rewind self-reaction is a brilliant idea for a video! Not only it allows people who weren't subscribed back in a day to watch it for the first time (like me), it also works as a reminder for people who did watch it but forgot (which is very natural for ADHD). And it also allows you to review if it's still relevant or good in practice, adding to it the wisdom you gained years after (or perhaps re-gain the wisdom your past self had). I feel like I should read my past diaries to see if there's something I could re-learn. Hope you're doing weil Jessica! Looking forward to the next Rewind!
Well this explains a lot about why I struggled so much with having a tiny baby and, following on from that, some reassurance for you Jessica as you dive into that world yourself (also congratulations!). Newborn babies change constantly, in the first few weeks it feels like every day they throw something new at you to topple those routines, then it slows to every week, then every couple of weeks, but it really felt to me like the first few months were relentless in terms of change. So don't expect to be able to get a routine to stick to begin with, but be reassured that the changes slow down and you will manage it eventually, and be kind to yourself in the early days when it's so difficult to get a routine to stick.
With routine I manage to brush my teeth twice a day and use floss. Now I'm trying to get myself to clean my apartment a little bit at a time, to hopefully get it organised and decluttered one day.
Thanks for this. I love how you are talking about what I need to hear just about every time a new video drops! Much love to you and your growing family!
Oh my watching the anti planner plug at the beginnning was mind blowing! My brain lit up, my inner voice yelled "omg get that book! Its all about the chapter dividers for instant access". So i ordered a copy using your dicsount code (thanks!). Thanks for sharing it. Also, I bought your book, its amazing! Thanks for making these videos, they helped me accept my ADHD. 😃🥰
Oooooooooh. That paper monster set please! Please! I LOVE paper monster and watch on occasion - but deff want to see current reaction to past Jessica =)
Love the rewind set up! Also I loved and still love this video. All the props and characters made it super memorable and has been sooooooo helpful for getting the things done. I have a few sets of routines that I was able to make stick once having my first baby because I already had these so ingrained into my days (lots absolutely got thrown off too but we will rebuild!) Now that I have baby 2 coming, there are some new routines with my toddler that I know will be helpful for her if I can hold on to. But we will be ready to make needed changes.
I'm going just keep living last year until I perfect it, can't leave unfinished business behind, it's been 33 years now, I can't wait to try out the new millennium.
When I heard the discord notification sound I immediately tabbed to discord and was confused why it was so much louder than normal, only to realise it was in the video lol
One of my favorite videos of yours is the one where you talk about relationships and it's actually directed towards the loved one of the ADHD person. I really think it captured explaining how our brains work and struggles we have so they have understanding. Would love to see a revisit of the Hearts video. ❤
This was so helpful! I never rewatch videos but also forgot all of those useful things you said before. At some point you probably told us we need repetition to remember anything new, so I'm adding my request now for you to do a rewind of this rewind in 2 years haha 😂
I like that type with away or other we see old videos and remind it obviously with you and it kind interesting because you watching like the first time ever 😂😂😂😂😂😂❤❤❤❤
1: I love this type of video, looking forward to seeing more :D 2: I fully support more props and toys in videos, on your channel and in general. 3: I wish my morning routine was easier, I've been trying for years!
So, reading is boring... but, I've read at least one chapter every day this year. Finished four books already. I've found it very helpful to read while my laundry is going, or while food is cooking. (Just make sure to set a timer!) It's a way to do two things at once. If only writing were so easy.
Mm what about audiobooks? Those work for me if you count them as reading! Also just want to say how impressed I am you remember to set alarms and not burn down your house, that's next to impossible for me and usually leads to dinner being blacker than I intended 😅
I’m not even kidding I swear I wrote a note in my journal two days ago that “routine is key”👍 and now you teach me how to make a routine ❤thank you so much ❤️
This video was quite good, but I'd like to add some nuance to the 'only try to start one new habit at a time' thing. I've struggled with brushing my teeth for a long time now, and for the past couple of years (moving houses a couple of times) I've found it hard to shower consistently every day. I tried a couple of times trying to get showering every evening back into a habit, but things like going out in the evening disrupted it so many times that it kept falling out of being a habit. Without having seen your video, I had thought to myself that maybe it was best just to focus on getting showering going again before I tried working on brushing my teeth, but I think that this just made things worse - because now I wasn't feeling bad about not brushing my teeth in the evenings, so I was thinking about it less, so it just didn't happen. 19 days ago I tried a different strategy, and rather than trying to make a habit of showering before bed, I tried to turn going to the toilet, turning the shower on to heat up (it takes a while), brushing my teeth, and then using the shower into a routine before bed. I've stuck to this every day for almost twice as long as any previous time in the past year that I tried showering before bed, and one reason is that now I am trying to both brush my teeth and shower, I have twice the likelihood of thinking of the need to do one of them, and the other one gets thought of for free. A couple of times I've tried to switch around the order of toilet, teeth and shower, so the shower is running for less time, but I'm a lot more likely to forget to brush my teeth if I've got out of the shower and changed into bed clothes, because I'm then in clothes mode and I pick up my clothes to put them away, near my bed, and get into bed, and oops I haven't brushed my teeth, and then I have to psych myself up to go do that (which has taken up to half an hour). If I turn the shower on after going to the toilet, then brush my teeth, I have a reason to do my teeth now (I've got to wait for the shower to warm up, which I don't have if I turn the shower on before going to the toilet), and I have a clear reminder to get in the shower after I've brushed my teeth - because the water is on and flowing at the right temperature. Having this routine as something I'm trying to do has made me better at sticking to getting a shower, and it's brought teeth brushing along with it, where previously I found it hard to stick at just showering alone. The other part of what has enabled me to get brushing my teeth and showering regularly again was a free app called 'Finch', that I had recommended by a friend, which gets you to make to do lists and ticking off goals helps grow a little bird (and decorate their house). It also allows you to link up goals into 'journeys', which kind of work like to do lists of to do lists, helping you track routines as well as individual habits. I've found this incredibly useful, and the times where I've forgotten the teeth-brushing part of the routine (because I turned the shower on before going to the toilet) having one last 'brush teeth' task to tick off on Finch has been what has enabled me to get back out of bed and go brush them. Would recommend.
I have yet to get to the point where doing it becomes automatic, the second I get sick or anything goes wrong I will completely forget that I ever did that thing.
@@HowtoADHD Yes to an IBNUs rewind! That video was so pivotal for me! And yes, it did make the term #IBNU happen---at least in my corner of the world. IBNUs are fetch! 😄
Me cleaning my apartment: - I want more space in my livingroom. - The closets have to move to the bedroom - There is no space in the bedroom because everything lays around there - I make space in the bedroom - I need to order new furniture for the livingroom - For the old furniture to leave the house, I need to clean the hallway - Hey, no floor! Let's also replace the floor. - And paint the wall. - Some stuff is nice enough to keep but I dont use it, lets move it to the shed! - No space in shed, lets clean out the shed. I started 3 months ago and still working, I hired cleaners to finish my work tomorrow because otherwise it will be December by the time im done lol. My whole body hurts from this project.
Everytime i have any life event it throws me off. Job switch, pregnancy, kid, etc And even with life there are seasonal things that theow me for a loop. The beginning and end of the school year ( paperwork and expenses), vacation packing, illnesses, begining or ending of a regular thing.
Love the rewind idea AND the props!😄❤👏Physical cues (like putting meds & water on the nightstand) + Habit Stacking & Temptation Bundling have helped me so much! Carrying my checklist on a cute place card holder from room room to room with my visual dial timer helps me not get distracted. 😃💖✍⏲Clutterbug's recent podcast with Lisa Woodruff about routines as trains that get you places faster & easier just re-inspired me to build again. Appreciate this reminder of HOW.❤
lol It's so funny to see that you don't remember some of the advice you've given 😂 I think I often assume when we learn a technique that we'll always remember it...but that's obviously not the case! That's probably why I do love the Anti-Planner! I'm constantly opening it to remind me of the tools that I could use. I like it so much I bought 2! (one for me and one for my ADHD bestie)
My routines are a mess currently. I’m job searching. Struggling with paying for a new car cause my old one died. Single again after a toxic relationship and even going to a new church. So much new happening in my life and I’m not too happy with my routine currently cause I’m trying to prioritize adult functions like putting in applications but there’s also waiting and I feel useless in the meantime. Whole weeks of doing nothing but what I know how to do. Play video games, work on my writing skills, and watch things. It hurts because my entire routine is boring and I feel very unproductive and stressed from lack of money. Stable but stressed. All this free time I also procrastinate and feel guilty about having fun.

Yay!! We're so glad you are loving this idea!!!
@@HowtoADHD I love this idea too!
The "finger puppet" segments are adorable and hilarious. Is it possible to bring it back for something?
You and your team are doing great things.

I love that you got mad at your past self for a moment. I remember watching that video after watching more of your recent content, and I felt the same way.

Which is what you're doing now 🎉 Also I hope the C-section went well and you and your daughter are doing well 🤗♥️
Love this! Do them all! Start to finish. That’ll keep you busy and we’ll all relearn together!🎉
"You don't know me!" 😂 Love that
....because it is you. We forget these awesome stratagies.
This Anti-planner looks great!! Sadly, not available outside the USA. Terrific vid, Jessica and congratulations!!
Just diagnosed so perfect timing 👍
This is so cool! I hope you're doing well!! 💗⭐
Love the props! The routines advice is honestly spot on. Working on one thing at a time is tough tho 😅
I love the tiny set!!! I hope you and baby are well.
you should make more props!!!
congrats on the baby Jessica, im glad you are both safe
Your old videos helped me so much both before and after my adhd diagnosed. At certain times, it saved me from hitting some very bad lows
Yes to the PROPS! They're great for visual learning!
Awesome not only do I want to see the next video but I will look forward to a follow up video to see how you are going to implement your new routines ( months down the line of course since your life is about to be chaotic no matter what for a bit 😊’
I just love your facial expressions when you rewatch your own videos! They made me laugh out loud 😂
Thanks!
You're welcome! And thank you!
Rewind videos sound like a great thing to do while you're getting used to being a parent! Maybe not 100% of your videos for the next 6mo, lol, but i liked this!
Amazing format! I've been watching your channel for four years now, and two days ago I finally got my diagnosis. Yay!
Thank you for everything! :))
Never seen that video, it’s actually so helpful! I’ll defo give it a go
Have been watching your videos for about a year now and finally got diagnosed ten days ago. Bought your book right the next day. Thanks for being there for us when not a lot of people are 💜
Thank you Jessica❤️
That video was a masterpiece! So many hilarious details (which I did not notice the first time because I was taking in the high quality information). I bet you laughed a lot while filming it.
Keep up the animations, the care and the fun: all ingredients that made the past videos excellent! ✨
Which hilarious details were some of your favourites? :D
Everything .. The absolute favourite is the new habit which comes wrapped in packaging 😂
Executive malfunction
The fingers are very good actors and I am a big fun of googly eyes.
Also the miniature at the beginning is fantastic 😁
Isn't it?! The miniature is so cuuuuuuute
That was the funnest video with your little 'legs' and dominoes. It cracked me up plus it had a really good message. I'm going to tell my 2 adult adhd kids about it. haha
Lol. Had to laugh at your comment about the trash in Seattle. I used to live in Seattle and you are very correct. It is not easy to figure out.
yes i absolutely adore this concept. past jessica was mad knowledgeable as well and the videos are evergreen. hindsight is 20/20 so viewing them in retrospect can add even more value to already incredible videos
Just wanted to wish you the best of luck today. I hope everything goes great (or went great, if you only read this later)!
This is a *fantastic* idea for an ongoing series of videos!
Thoroughly enjoyed this! So helpful. Funny to see you angry at yourself lol!
Happy Birthday to your Third Spirit, and Enjoy this time in 'training'! Congratulations 🎉 to your new dimension and Family ❤
How did I miss this. please bring more of these gems. All videos are gems to be honest.
Awww yeah they were so much fun weren't they?
Routines don't work for me and just stress me out, but this video was so cute.
Oooooooooh. That paper monster set please! Please! I LOVE paper monster and watch on occasion - but deff want to see current reaction to past Jessica =)
OMG YES! That would be such a fun video to rewind!
I really like this format of revisiting earlier videos. More please. Thank you!
Love the rewind set up! Also I loved and still love this video. All the props and characters made it super memorable and has been sooooooo helpful for getting the things done. I have a few sets of routines that I was able to make stick once having my first baby because I already had these so ingrained into my days (lots absolutely got thrown off too but we will rebuild!)
Now that I have baby 2 coming, there are some new routines with my toddler that I know will be helpful for her if I can hold on to.
OH NO. Oops 🤣 I forget the noise is even in there!!!
I needed this TODAY! :)
I like that type with away or other we see old videos and remind it obviously with you and it kind interesting because you watching like the first time ever 😂😂😂😂😂😂❤❤❤❤
1: I love this type of video, looking forward to seeing more :D
2: I fully support more props and toys in videos, on your channel and in general.
3: I wish my morning routine was easier, I've been trying for years!
Praying for you and baby❤
Still love the finger boots!
Congratulations!
So, reading is boring... but, I've read at least one chapter every day this year. Finished four books already.
I've found it very helpful to read while my laundry is going, or while food is cooking. (Just make sure to set a timer!) It's a way to do two things at once.
If only writing were so easy.
Ohhh that's a creative way to pair reading with something to help to get you to read, I love that!!
Mm what about audiobooks? Those work for me if you count them as reading! Also just want to say how impressed I am you remember to set alarms and not burn down your house, that's next to impossible for me and usually leads to dinner being blacker than I intended 😅
I’m not even kidding I swear I wrote a note in my journal two days ago that “routine is key”👍
and now you teach me how to make a routine ❤thank you so much ❤️
Awwwww that's awesome timing!! Definitely hope the vid helps!
@@HowtoADHD you always help❤️
OMG welcome to Seattle! Would you ever do a meet and greet for those local to the area???
I love this! Thanks thanks thanks 🙏
I have yet to get to the point where doing it becomes automatic, the second I get sick or anything goes wrong I will completely forget that I ever did that thing.
Oh I hope you rewind the matrix video on our "ibnu"s again, literally the video that made me subscribe here.
Ohhhhh yeah that'd be a fun one to rewind!!
@@HowtoADHD Yes to an IBNUs rewind! That video was so pivotal for me! And yes, it did make the term #IBNU happen---at least in my corner of the world. IBNUs are fetch! 😄
Me cleaning my apartment:
- I want more space in my livingroom.
- The closets have to move to the bedroom
- There is no space in the bedroom because everything lays around there
- I make space in the bedroom
- I need to order new furniture for the livingroom
- For the old furniture to leave the house, I need to clean the hallway
- Hey, no floor!
I need the next video…. I guess I will go and look for it myself. Pretty sure you’re too busy with the little one. Congrats!!
Everytime i have any life event it throws me off. Job switch, pregnancy, kid, etc
And even with life there are seasonal things that theow me for a loop. The beginning and end of the school year ( paperwork and expenses), vacation packing, illnesses, begining or ending of a regular thing.
Loved it! More please😁
HAPPY BIRBDAY TO THE BABY BRAIN! This is where I would insert a birb GIF, but TH-cam doesn't allow gifs...yet ;)
