      @@willi6880 some people just replace the entire carburetor because they're so cheap. A lot less parts to loose. Sometimes it's a very old carburetor and clean it later. But whatever works for you.

    My bf just told me I could not do this. He said if I start it he isn't gonna help me at all. However I have been waiting for over a month for him to do it and I have been shovelling the driveway, and it's huge, like u can park 6 cars in it at least so I am very sick of it already. What's the worst thing that can happen? It's not working now, so may as well give it a try. If you have any questions, just ask me or post it here, my fantastic subscribers will help out.

    Its shocking that it don't have a air filter for the carb, just the heater shield. Been looks for weeks trying to find out more on parts for that model we're missing. Thank you for video. Now I know the MTD with the same engine (it's a 1992 or a 94) has no air filter and just missing the shield and the choke knobe.

    • @CraigArndt
      @CraigArndt  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Snow blowers don't have air filters, ever. There's no dust in the winter up north. The heater shield is needed so the carb doesn't ice over from the venturi effect... but no dust or anything in the air. Air is cold, dense and just snow flying around, so no filter needed.

    I was literally going to take the entire carb off, If you hadn't mentioned "brake cleaner", I would have. I only took the bowl off and sprayed through the underside, tipped it back a little, let sit for a few seconds, sprayed through intake, and BOOM, combustion.. works like it's supposed too. Took about ten minutes.. not a brag post, just a quick tip post. (The bowl was kinda gross too, brake cleaner liquified that gunk. Haha, 2015 post helped in 2019.

      Thanks NRP! Brake clean blasts away stuff on contact and it evaporates in seconds. It's strong stuff but leaves no residue, which is why it is used on brakes. My buddy picked it up last night, he was thrilled. We are supposed to get 7" today and tonight. He's bringing his non working generator over soon, another video forthcoming!

    to help prevent the carb from clogging up... use ethanol-free fuel. ethanol makes it gum up. also helps to use fuel stabilizer in your jerry can since most people don't use a ton of fuel so a can can last a whole season or two. The biggest thing though... avoid ethanol like the plague!

    • @Santos-ek8md
      @Santos-ek8md 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Joe Zasada your absolutely right. I gave up gasoline from my gas station for TRUFUEL.
      There is no mixing needed w/oil. It’s 93+ octane, ethanol-free formula provides easier engine starting and smoother idling.
      With its advanced formula and fuel stabilizers precisely blended with full synthetic oil keeps fuel fresh for 2+ years after opening and 5+ years unopened. Totally worth it.

      So true. Wish I had the GoPro tilted down a little more, could see the oil at the top of the stick it was like grease it was so thick. It took me two paper towels squares to clean it off. That oil was nasty. As many people on youtube hate Tecumseh motors, I actually like them, especially the old ones.

    My engine will idle up and down while I am using it, Could this also be a carburetor issue? It does have a rough time starting and then will usually die often, I have to keep the choke on just a little all the time or it will die.

    • @CraigArndt
      @CraigArndt  8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Oh yeah, if you need the choke on you have a clogged carburetor. That is one sign you know its clogged when the choke needs to stay on to keep it running or smooth it out. There are lots of videos on carb cleaning, try to find one that will be close to the carb you pull off, then take it apart. Take pics if you have to, you can do it!

    I have a similar carburetor on my Sears 9 HP snow blower. I replaced the carburetor and the spark plug (.030 gap) with parts I ordered from Amazon. The snow blower was missing and surging before. After replacing them, the engine doesn't surge anymore but it does still sporadically sputter. Can you advise me on what to check next?

    • @CraigArndt
      @CraigArndt  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would make sure you have a good gasket seal from the carburetor to the engine block, no air leaks. Sounds like if it is sputtering, you need to adjust the carburetor. I bought an Amazon carb for my Ariens and I have adjustments for high and low circuits. The high speed circuit you adjust at high idle and low speed at idle. Some of those carbs have an air/fuel mixture screw at the bottom of the bowl too. I don't have any videos that I recall on that, but check out Donyboy71 for carb videos on adjustments.

    on the bottom of the carberato bowl,,,their is a screw with a spring,,,what is this caled and what does it do??any plss,,,,

    • @CraigArndt
      @CraigArndt  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The screw with a spring on the bottom is the mixture adjustment on the bottom of the bowl. When the engine is running WOT, you can turn it slightly left or right to richen or lean out the mixture. Engines should be adjusted warmed up. Usually they are set approx. 1 and 1/2 turns out, screwed in and backed out 1 1/2 turns. Then from there it can be played with to fine tune the engine while it is running. The one on the bottom can smooth out rough running, backfiring or surging from fuel starvation. Hope that helps.

    Just watched you video and thank you. I have a 247.888510. This year it wouldn't start after I put gas in it. Then I noticed gas leaking out a small hold in the side. The hold could be filled by a pin but anything I stick there would stay. I thought maybe a part fell out but don't see one at that place on your video. I took a closeup of the hole and area which is between the two screw holes for the bracket for the heater box. The number 516 is stamped into the metal and the hole is at 1 o'clock to it. I'll try to attach the photo and see what happens. In the future I'll clean the carb once I get it running, or before. I plan to try to use JB Weld to fill the hole.
