- Hotshot television anchorman, Ron Burgundy welcomes upstart reporter Veronica Corningstone into the male-dominated world of 1970s broadcast news until the talented female journalist outshines Burgundy on air. Soon he grows jealous, begins a bitter feud with Veronica, and eventually makes a vulgar slip on live TV that ruins his career. However, when an outrageous story breaks at the San Diego Zoo, Ron may get a chance to redeem himself.

Baxter is named after Ted Baxter who was an air headed anchorman on the Mary Tyler Moore television show in the 70's. The era this movie is set in.
The first thing on the screen said "Only the names, locations, and events have been changed." So none of it is based on actual events. I love the humor in this movie!
Brick is the best character. Steve Carrell is also great in Bruce Almighty.

This movie is based on Harold Green an actual news anchor from San Diego back in the 1970s.
also have heard them say the look was based on Jim Gardner an anchor from Philly who JUST retired..but he kept the look up for his whole career. His mustache is famously a part of his look.
I think all anchors looked like this in the 70s and 80s lol.

She's the director Adam McKay's daughter Pearl, she was the little girl in Stepbrothers in the playground fight that says "I'm gonna cut you, ese!" Along with The Landlady skit, she did one called Good Cop, Baby Cop, and it's fuckin hysterical!

A good Will Ferrell movie is Blades of Glory, it’s not as funny as this because anchorman is a tough act to follow but it’s still one of my favourites.

FYI. San Diego does not mean "Whales Vagina" haha pretty cool history about it with Catholics and missions being built here. But honestly being from San Diego, it was so awesome seeing a movie centered around this beautiful city and seeing the landmarks like the Coranado Bridge (the one where Jack Black kicked Baxter off). Anchorman 2 isn't as good. I will recommend watching the second movie they made from leftover footage of this one, Wake Up Ron Burgundy. It's pretty funny as well.

So, when that movie ended and your reaction to Anchorman came up in my recommendations, I just knew you would hit this reaction out of the park as well. I was not disappointed. I saw this in the theater 7/5/2004 right around the time it came out, never laughed harder at a movie. still have the ticket stub in my old desk at my parents' house.
i know his other lines are funnier but i've got a soft spot for sad jokes, "where did you get those clothes? the...toilet?...store?" deliveries kill me.

Fun fact something I just realized Christina Applegate when she was having sex with Ron Burgundy in the beginning that's what they used to do on married with children on the sex scenes which she also played in I think that was intentional it wasnt cartoons but it would be explosions or a home run or something like that 😂😂
