On the continent I haven't seen that yet. They only issue this spring were snails. They even attacked a Red Star Cordyline and ate all the upcoming leaves to the point of decline and almost death. I intervened a bit too late but now it's pushing again.
My Ensetes and other banana all out side but really slow to grow, red banana 70cm around the base slow again digging up tonight . From Leicestershire no sign of virus
Something to look out for then! Ensetes have been slow this year, but really taking off now. I've obit dealt with strangles in the past. Another thing to worry about! I've ditched some Colocasias over the years for what looks like mosaic virus. One particularly vigorous one i was going ditch, has come back symptom-free this year. I know nothing about plant immune systems. I need to read up. One thing you may want to know is that this video is very quiet. Had to turn it up quite a bit. And then the next video made me jump out of my skin 😂
@YorkshireKRIS I've shared with my Welsh Tropical Gardening group and a banana one I'm in. Suggested they feed back to you. I've nominated you as data collator. Sorry 😄
I've seen no indications of this marking on any my bananas, musa basjoo, Sikkimensis, musella lasiocarpa, or Ensetes, but I'm at the opposite end of the country, (Cornwall). I hope you get to the bottom of the problem eventually. Have you looked at the bananas in your local plant nurseries or garden centres ?
I’ve had this happen this year on the Hiniba that I purchased from yourself a few years back Kris however this is a much larger specimen now. The distorted leaves lasted well into July. It’s only over the last 4 to 5 weeks that healthy leaves have been emerging. I thought it was perhaps down to the cold start to the year however there was some rot on the corm which I scraped off so it could be down to that or a combination of, it looks healthy enough now. I’m likely going to propagate it at the end of this year as it’s about 16 foot tall and I don’t want to risk the rot progressing further and losing it completely(without getting some pups from it first).
Out of all the comments, seems like you’re the only person who has had a plant with these same symptoms. If you bought it from the person who runs this TH-cam channel, I’d personally be asking for a refund.
five ensetes here one in a pot rest in the ground, they all look fine (I may have just been out with a torch!) Mine are only two years old maximum. Is it perhaps something that comes with years of protection inside/dry stored and eventually they become weak or susceptible to disease.
Nice vid. Chris, I’ve got a nice moosa in a smallish pot , going to garage over winter ( haven’t a greenhouse ) with some light & heat . Would I best to still cut leaves down or just leave the leaves ( beautiful) “ as is” ? Thanks
My Ensetes have been fine this year, just very slow to grow and pushed out lots, but small leafs.... sikkimensis all good, but the Basjoo have had the same issue as you, with marks and dry edges.. only the last week or so they have taken off really
I hope you believe me but all that damage it's from spider mites, they spin a web to keep the leaves from opening, mine looked the same, and this is the first year i used more aggressive pesticide, seven dust spray.
Mine have grown massive over last 3 years went from a small pup to 4-5m but previously ive had same issue but with mold. I think its drainage they really need as that solved my issue
On a separate issue from bananas, my yucca rostrata is sending out a flower spike, now, (September), and I'm wondering, if I collect seeds, (if it eventually flowers), would they be viable seeds if I planted them next spring? It's the only one in the garden. Do I need a male and a female plant to get viable seeds?
@YorkshireKRIS Nope. Totally organic. I might try a herbal remedy. Otherwise, they'll have to go! And start a fresh. Luckily, they're only small and bought this year. My older ones seem to be free of it.
Same here, Musa basjoo in the ground very slow. In pots not too bad. Ensete had one from garden centre, died within three weeks, didn't look right to me.
@asmerom3025 wait for the pups to have their own roots before severing the root connecting the pup to the mother plant. You'll need to wash away some compost to see this.
Had one in a modest pot in conservatory, huge leaves produced mini bananas,so happy indoors
I live in usa, North Carolina, mine looked exactly the same for about a month
@@1972mystro and do they still look like this now?
@@YorkshireKRIS no it helped allot

Mine are in big container pots and have been fine outside this summer. I store mine in our basement over winter.

@FnXMusique yes possibly another plant issue to look out for. The sound levels looked OK on my end but I'll check back. Thanks for watching

@markcoope443 glad it's recovering, similar to the small one I showed in the video regarding a recovery. Let's hope you can successfully prop

Forgot to mention they stay outdoors all year in the south of england
Could it be Pyralid damage from the chicken pellets?
No it's not moth damage on this occasion

Would you not suggest the weather in the uk is not stable enough to grow tropical plants.
The weather's fine for a lot of tropical plants, at least in our summers
My new plants this year are suffering from the same 😢 keep chopping off but it keeps coming back

@@YorkshireKRIS Many thanks for that.
Musa Basjoo do not generally grow friut in our climate, and if they did, they are not the edible variety. Easy to overwinter.
Yep
Hi Kris enjoyed the video. Can you tell me if musa siam Ruby is easy to overwinter. Thanks
@@greghutton1896 thanks for watching. Siam Ruby needs a lot of care to get through winter. Warmth and plenty of light.
@@YorkshireKRIS thanks kris
Hi Kris, I wonder if your Ensete has yellow sigatoka? I think it's a fungal infection.
That looks similar but is it common in Ensete or just Musa?
@YorkshireKRIS I think it's mostly in musas but it can affect ensetes in rare occasions.
