Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind is one of those movies that stays in your head - which is fitting for a film that comes out vehemently against the virtues of forgetting. So what exactly makes this film as memorable to viewers as Clem and Joel are to each other, compared to plenty of other stories that faded from consciousness? And what makes any story analyzable - sparking viewers to think, talk, debate?

@thetake side question- What did the Take's old name used to be? Like, you know how it was Two Guys A Girl And A Pizza Place and then it became Two Guys and a Girl... What was The Take's TGAGAAPP name? It's been really bugging me that I can't conjure it.

Jim Carrey should really star in more dramas, he's fantastic in them. I wish that they'd kept the deleted scene of Mary discovering her tape, as it adds more agency to her character, and is brilliantly acted by Kirsten Dunst.

This movie has such a huge place in my heart and this analysis was fantastic. I was thinking about the end of it just the other day and I thought, "isn't that what a relationship is? Knowing your own and each other's flaws and wanting to make it work anyway? Saying, okay, we try again and we try to be better to each other."

I really love how Clementine's hair acts as a clock for her and Joel's relationship, and corresponds with a season of the year. The wigs were so convincing, that I didn't realise that they weren't Kate's actual hair until years later!

The moment they are meeting as the books around them go white is burnt in to my mind. The visuals like that are often simple but almost always powerful.

While watching it for the first time I was increasingly scared they would mess up the ending. I thought it could go too cliché with a neatly wrapped up love story where all is perfect in the end. But like everything else in the movie they nail the ending, making it slightly melancholy but beautiful and hopeful without going too sentimental or overly optimistic.

This movie lives in my heart. It really is a special capsule that I think perfectly captures such a complex thing about the human condition: love.

This movie plot reminds me of a lot of karmic punishments, such as Sisyphus being forced to push a rock up a hill and it rolls back down forever. On The Twilight Zone, Captain Karl Lanzer is forced to repeat the sinking of a ship over and over again forever. On this movie, Joel and Clementine are condemned to get together, break up and forget each other, and get together again forever in a similar type of eternal hell-like punishment.

This movie was very original in its concept and premise. Jim Carrey demonstrated how great his acting range is and got out of his usual roles. Michel Gondry was mentioned in "Stuff White People Like" by Christian Lander. The characters were punished with an endless cycle of getting together, breaking up, and getting back together for all eternity as if they were getting an ironic punishment in hell.

This is my favorite movie of all time, even though I’m not a fan of romance movies in General. Meet Me In Montaulk. Thanks for the analysis. When Clem says to baby Joel, look at this dress, I wish I could rake it with me, I agreed.

accurately, and, ESPECIALLY the circumstances LEADING to the breakups, AND, what makes us love who we do, based on who we ultimately become, due to how we understood the unconscious, and our CONSCIOUS lessons learned from the adults in our childhood , as THEY handle relationships, if you follow.

I’m shocked that this video was uploaded today cause I love this movie and the theme song started playing while my music was on shuffle, ironically this is the time of the year that reminds me of this movie. So I always wanna know if anyone feels the same way about this movie so I decided to search it up on TH-cam, then I saw this video. I can’t wait to watch this I haven’t even started watching it I just thought it was a beautiful coincidence. Thanks!

@@LeahIsHereNowI know!!! I really wanted to like it. Although in its defense, I was really young and immature back then and I watched it dubbed in a foreign language (my mother tongue). This analysis has made me want to watch it again in its original version.
