    Just made a little dome for my beardie, this works very well just takes time to sculpt and shape your desired cave. Make sure you let it dry before letting your reptile in!!

    If you use sand just make sure your pet is not eating in the enclosure. I use sand in my bearded dragon tank and she is very healthy , has never had any problem with poo 💩 all I do is take her out of her enclosure to feed her . She has separate container for feeding and another for baths. Sand is more natural it’s just a bit more work when it comes to feeding.

    Wow! I was thinking about using Styrofoam for my structure. I never thought about using clay. Does this clay substance you demonstrated dry hard like Cement? Will it eventually break down in a high humidity tank for Red Eye Tree Frogs? Or if I include a waterfall, will the water eventually wash the substrate away?

    • @Synovia

    Sand is only ok for the following DESERT lizards: Scorpion Tailed Geckos,desert chameleons, collared lizards, and steppe runner lizards. People talk about Leopard geckos not being from oceans of sand but from rocky areas, that is not the case with the lizards I listed. Those ones are really from seas of sand and are adapted to eating on it. Scorpion tailed gecko surprisingly Don’t even ingest the sand when grabbing food off of. Unless you have one of those lizards, don’t do the sand dusting part at the end like this man did here. A substitute substrate is eco earth but you should not be using loose substrate with baby lizards. If you do, your honestly choosing the terrarium look over the lizards health and animal control should be called -_-

    this looks great!!! how well does this stuff work if you put it underwater, like in an aquarium?

    • @BigAlsVOD
      @BigAlsVOD  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ben Arthur Unfortunately it doesn't work well at all in an aquarium setting. If you build it in an aquarium, let it dry, then added water, the water would penetrate the surface of the structure and it would start to fall apart. If you were committed to the idea, you could build a structure in your aquarium, then attempt to seal it before adding water, but obviously that comes with some risk.

      Sand is a naturally encountered surface in nature. Usually the reptiles that are given sand substrate are desert dwelling reptiles that would be on sand often in the wild.

    • @GruffThree9
      @GruffThree9 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Kyle Morris a common misconception. Although some species do live on sand in the wild, I find it way too common for people to think that leopard geckos live in a barren sandy desert. They live on a rocky/hard clay type substance.

      Animal Lover internet myth? There’s been peoples animals promptly DIE because of it. Look it up and you will see it’s not just an “internet myth”. And besides, leopard geckos do not live on sand in the wild. It’s sort of a mix of hard packed clay and rocky terrain yes there will be small places with sand but there’s barely any.
      Please look up and know the facts before you comment

      +ScorchingSnowstorm TV Excavator Clay is really good for Bearded Dragons, Leopard Geckos, Sand Boas, Uromastyx, burrowing snakes, swifts and spiny lizards, and other reptiles that create or use burrows. It's also a great product for tarantulas and scorpions!

      Technically you aren't supposed to use sand for reptiles cuz if they swallow it it could become impacted :\
