- Hey guys! Currently bored being stuck home during the pandemic so what's more fun than alittle math. Let's find out how much it costs to modify a DR650 for adventure. Well atleast to the degree mine is. Could be more or less depending on your own preferences!

I lucked out on mine. Previous owner did most of the mods, RMZ forks, IMS tank, TM40 carb, seat concepts seat, trailtech vapor, different handlebar and HDB bark busters, BBQ grill rear rack and side racks, full FMF exhaust, lowered pegs and de-rubber mounted them, bash plated, etc, all for $4500 US at the time. The only money I've spent on it other than maintenance is i spent big bucks on the Cogent mojave shock which REALLY improved the bike.
But now it's the best bike.... in the world.

Once upon a time, many, many years ago in a land far, far away, there was a motorcycle that came out of the factory that didn't need modification.
But it was only that one time, it was a long time ago, and a long way from here.
Holy moly! The skid plate and guards are that much??? Ive been looking into getting a DR650 and all I hear about is "must have" upgrades which is what you have done and that turns a fairly decent price bike into just plain to much. Thanks for sharing the real deal mate! Hugely helpful information when you add it all up.

Mine has an upgraded seat, an Acerbis tank, risers, handlebars, reinforced hanguards, adjustable windscreen, LED light, TKC80 tubeless tires, skid plate, foot pegs, upgraded front and rear suspension, new tailpipe, new front rear fenders, new side plastics, luggage racks, off road mirrors, top rack, gas can, water can, case armor, new grips, built-in dash with cell phone holder, USB outlet, new gas cap, new mirrors...I'm sure I'm missing something. ;) The funny thing is I just bought a new Triumph Tiger 1200 XCa ultimate Adventure bike, with every technological advancement you could imagine and I, arguably, have more fun on my DR650!
Now that sounds like a nice bike!! And good choice in mods to!

@@NzJohny Yep the Mosko's were expensive! We bought them in the black Friday sale and got free shipping but they are still the most expensive mod i have ever done.

It took me too long to realise that I should spend most of my money on things that can go to the next bike. Of course performance mods (pipes, tanks, seats etc) are always bike specific, but over recent years I’ve biased my spend towards Flexx bars, barkbusters, proper LED light bards, Kriega OS System bags, power accessories, double take mirrors etc so that I can take them with me.

That Screens for Bikes windscreen is basically a Bajaworx (U.S.). I went to the Bajaworx web site to order one, put in my credit card info (minus my security code), put in my name/address... all of the sudden the address changed to the Cayman Islands and the screen went blank. I'm glad I didn't complete my credit card info. Looks like I'll be getting my windscreen somewhere else.
Oh dam thats dodgy. I'm actually in the process of making one. Legitimate one molded not bent etc. Making a jig as we speak. Any suggestions welcome. I plan to make them competitive to the baja and screens for bikes
My mate just bought a ducati and put an after market exhaust on. He paid 5k Aud for just that mod, you get a lot for 5k on a dr650, just picked mine up yesterday in the run out sale. Cool bike. How much range do you get from the 20 litre tank may I ask?
Dam that's expensive! Yeah I suppose the dr650 is cheap enough then. I get between 390km - 410km until I have to switch to reserve with the 20ltr. Thanks for watching :)
You need the new exhaust from cycleworks up in your part of the world great exhaust not to loud at all with the baffle in looking very clean LOL

Think you will find the cycleworks exhaust just right for noise mind you i am a bit def i also have a concept seat it's great best upgrade i got on my dr650

Nice. Good deal. I've done this my whole life with a drz400 / xr400 / klx. Etc. I finally decided to buy a bike that was untouched by other amateur mechanics. As I plan to keep for a long time. That's how I looked at it. Thanks for watching :)
@@NzJohny yeah definitely the way to go, nice work! Love my DR, i also commute 500kms a week on it so only thing id love to do to it now would be moto wheels with street tyres. Also if you can budget for a TM40 carb do it, beside the suspension mods this is my favorite upgrade for the DR.

I have added as high as $8,000 USD in mods that I would like. Including a Wide Ratio transmission kit and the Yenkro fairing with extra order windshield on it. 😂 About $14k-$15k USD to include (a new DR and mods), is not hard to spend. Not including Tax and shipping. 😎

Good stuff man! Avon city Suzuki? Wish I got that deal! As for the mods. very happy. I may possibly change the pannier racks if they bend as I am slightly suspect of them. As for everything else no complaints.

Yeah from Avon City, top guys. It cheap as they cant sell them once the ABS rule comes in, so are below cost to get shot of them.
I was going to get the new CRF300 but at $8200 for the DR I just couldn't say no.

I'm 180cm. I think the dr650 should do you just fine with some bar risers lowered pegs etc:)

I had a seat concepts on my last DR. Been trying to figure out what one to get next.
NzJohny ADV the seat concept regular seat with the harder foam and water resistant layer under the seat skin is the best

NzJohny ADV I hear you. There’s a TH-camr from here in America that keeps his DR just as clean as yours. He’s called 100 Spoke Riderz. I can’t even get mine that clean to start with, much less keep it clean.
@@andyblack5687 nice think I know that one. The dr looks good dirty though that's for sure. Eventually I will have it looking a bit more rough. So far I have only managed 800km. Having alittle issue with the license. But should be sorted soon

With that windscreen you can use longer bolts and put spacers made from small diameter pvc pipe between the headlight case and the windscreen.. paint it any color. Depending on spacer length it will allow you to get the windscreen forward a bit away from the cable and give a few more inches higher air deflection.. 👍 looks good so far. Have fun.
