Christian prayer in this shallow age is as is the age, shallow. God is everyone's Alladin's genie, merely a wishing stone, not the infinitely immense, infinitely holy, infinitely powerful Creator God who maintains all things through His infinitely powerful Word. We must, MUST, put God first in our prayer as in all other circumstances! This is pure prayer, godly prayer, God-honoring prayer, God-subserviant prayer, God-fearing prayer! If we do not fear God in the deepest recesses of our hearts, minds, and souls, we WILL pray wrong, we WILL pray superficially, we WILL pray selfishly, and we WILL pray disrespectfully, forgetting that it is only through Christ Jesus that we WILL be satisfied, WILL be purified, WILL be rectified, and WILL be sanctified. Oh, holy Father in heaven, fill us with the righteous fear of you so that we may give you all adoration and all thanksgiving and bring to you pure confession and petitions of pure supplication, for the sake of our great Lord and Saviour, Christ Jesus' cosmic sacrifice and miraculous resurrection. The Lord in His sovereignty has been whispering this lesson to me yh ed last few days and as I listen just "happen" to flip the Bible open and read Lamentations 3:25-33. Reading the ESV and it's so crystal clear a confirmation of your sermon tailored to affliction such as the kind I face now.
Thank you for this. There are so few sermons addressing unanswered (at least for the moment) prayer. I actually had an answer to prayer recently that came out of nowhere! Someone contacted me out of the blue and we will be discussing issues tomorrow. But there are other prayers where I am just worn out and pretty much have given up. I've been more than 10 years without full time/permanent work. Not months. Years. And yes, I've been looking. But nothing works out. I long ago lost hope. It's so difficult, especially when you see people who don't care about God and yet they are doing well financially, while my account is often at $0. The hardest ones to see are those who profess to be Christians but seem to have little interest in the things of God. Yet they are doing well while I continue to struggle, barely working part time. But I will keep praying. Maybe it will be a case of "not soon, but suddenly."
