We had a club at school that assigned us bags of snacks to sell around campus to pay for these tests; turns out it was "illegal" to do so, so for senior year, I was really struggling. It was unfair that I had to see my classmates go out to Sadies, Homecoming, and Prom every year, and the FOMO hurt me so much to the point I almost became a complete shut-in. I was glad to be part of theater and choir over there. Normally in other schools you'd have to pay a stupid fee to be part of performing arts programs, but I only had to manage the costumes and the choir uniform. During senior year, my band/choir director gave me a ticket to prom out of nowhere, and I broke down. I kept telling myself that it was probably because I backed a lot of altos and sopranos and helped him maintain the notes for those sections, then he told me that he did it of his own volition. Prom wasn't as memorable otherwise lol but when I got that ticket, it gave me hope that I could find some way to be a part of something no matter how poor I was.
I made a poster that said "Micky needs Minnie & Tigger needs Pooh and I need to go to Prom with you" haha. When I was asking her, the school news people wanted to record it so it was actually broadcasted to every TV in the school. She cried and said yes :) I usually never comment on videos, but I just wanted to say I don't know why no one asked you Jenn, but you're one of my favorite people in WongfuProductions because you're super chill and sweet. Any guy would be BLESSED to have you as a prom date!

I went to prom for sophomore, junior, and senior year. Sophomore year was fun. Junior year was decent. Senior year (this year) was boring because, honestly, I was over it by then. All they played at this year's prom was rap music that no one could dance to. And, after two years, the general prom formula gets pretty boring. Buut the after party for senior year was pretty fun, even though planning it was really stressful.

My senior ball was at the Exploratorium in San Francisco and I ended up making super early plans with a group (as a ninth wheel). After the majority of planning was done, the limo rented, and the dress drama dealt with, I found out one of my guy friends (who obviously had a crush on me) wanted to ask me. People were dropping hints about someone asking and I did not wanna deal with it because I didn't feel the same way. Every time someone dropped a hint, I told them, if anyone was gonna ask, I would say no, even with an extravagant promposal. Luckily he didn't ask, and I didn't cause a scene. It was the Exploratorium, so going as a ninth wheel wasn't even that bad. I'm a science nerd and most of the exhibits were open so I just went around playing with the exhibits.

I got half a pity slow dance at the end of the evening to Eve 6's "Here's to the Night." And I didn't go to junior prom - I went to Italy with my Latin class instead.

The thing was is that throughout the whole trip I kept sayin how much I loved Disneyland and even watched the fireworks together the day after he asked. In short my date had the possibility of asking me in front of fireworks at one of my favorite places but asked me at a hotel instead.

The only reason I went to Prom was because it was Harry Potter themed and there was karaoke. They even had owls to greet you when you got there! It was pretty cool.

For homecoming senior year my friend put on my locker "I've been searching for the perfect girl to take to hoco and I think I flounder" with a flounder stuffed animal (from little mermaid) and then for prom I asked him with a lion king reference "I'd be lion if I said I didn't have fun at hoco with you, so will you be the simba to my nala at prom?"

Junior year I was planning on going stag but then a friend from another town's school asked to go to my prom with me because his friend liked my friend, but my friend turned him down because she didn't want me to go by myself. So that's how I got a date to my junior year of prom. It was fun. Going with a friend meant no pressure - though afterwards everyone kept asking us why we didn't date because we were cute together. Then he kinda just disappeared and we stopped hanging out. Then senior year was the worst! Again I had no date. Neither did several of my friends so we decided to go together. Every year the Jr class paid for prom, which included a meal. That year the Jr class said they were only serving small snacks so my friends decided we would go eat. Everyone but me decided on Long John Silver's. Yeah. Then at the prom they all hooked up with guys at the prom, leaving me alone. During the fun party songs I danced, but whenever a slow song came on I was on the wall. Two of my guy friends asked me to dance because their girlfriends told them to because they felt sorry for me. Then another classmate since elementary school asked me to dance. He kept trying to pull me close to him and was doing some grinding-like moves. But he reeked of cigarettes so I stiff armed him the entire song. After prom my school always has an after prom party. Only one of my friends said she wanted to go. The plan was to go home, change, then meet at the YMCA (where the party was being held). I forgot something in my house so as I got out of my car to go back inside, I slammed my thumb in the car door. The rest of the night I had a purple, swollen thumb. My friend never showed up. All my other classmates were enjoying the rock climbing wall which I couldn't climb because of my bum thumb. So I was stuck alone watching movies. Someone finally remembered I was there and told me everyone was now roller skating so I should join. They had been skating for a while by the time I got my skates. Because of my bum thumb, it took a long time to lace up. Then by the time I finally was ready, everyone was done skating. A classmate expressed they felt bad that I would be skating alone. I said don't worry I'd just go around a couple of times then be done. As soon as my skate hit the floor, I fell back right on my butt in front of everyone. Needless to say, my experiences with prom aren't pleasant memories. The first, the beginning of a lost friendship and the second, one of the most humiliating nights of my life.
I only went with friends for dates to prom. It would be so casual at like lunch or the bus. "Got a date yet?" "No. You?" "No." "Wanna go together?" "Sure" And for my senior year we already agreed to go and people knew but he was super sweet and I think my friends half forced him? To still prompose to me. He was big into origami like he was the king in school and everyone knew. So it was in my math class and he walked in during the middle of it and pulled out this bouquet of red and white origami roses and asked me out with like 5 other people from his class at the time and a few of our friends recording and clapping. Just fun and sweet loved it and the never wilt so I still have them next to the hand made corsage ^-^
Phil!!! Northgate's ball is may 28th and it's the only dance I've gone to in high school and I hope that it'll be great like you say it is! I wish I could've taken Ashley or Jen
I can relate with Jenn so much in this video. I went with friends and didn't make a big deal out of it. It was fun but definitely not the highlight of high school.
My prom was juniors and seniors together and then freshman and sophomores were able to attend as dates only. We didn't have a prom for just juniors or just seniors with their dates.... my graduating class only had 331 students
I dont know if I matter but when Jenn posted on wongfupro's story abt topics for lunch break, I suggested prom! If Jenn actually used my suggestion, thats amazing cause that shows that wong fu actually cares abt their viewers opinions
My original prom date ended up not being able to go last minute, the week before prom because the school messed up his credits but in the end I went with a good friend of mine who didn't have a date. The night turned out really memorable and fun. Prom is a good one time experience
Went to junior and senior prom. Got asked to junior prom by a good friend (who i briefly dated after). Found out after-the-fact that the guy I had a previous on-again-off-again crush on wanted to ask me, but I already had a date at that point so he didn't get the chance. My prom date and I stopped dating because he was under the impression that I still liked on-again-off-again crush guy (which was not true, but I understood). Senior year mutually agreed to go with a friend (asked each other at the same time and we briefly dated after). Found out years later that my former friend had a huge crush on my prom date and was furious that he and I were going together. Apparently she was trying to "sabotage" my rep behind my back, but no one believed her so I never heard of it. (That and my oblivious nature at that time kept me out of all the major prom drama. phew). No promposals, but had a blast anyway. I would not have wanted a promposal (i hate being the center of attention). Went with a large group of friends both times. After-prom was the best. Both great experiences.
Junior year, went with my older sister(senior) and her date and group. Some of them had dates and some went alone in the group as well. I was going to ask one of the girls in the group to dance but I chickened out. Senior year, went with a group of friends. I was going to ask on of them to dance, but was waiting for a slow song but it never came up again. Plus, another one of the people in the group asked me to dance but she started doing the robot...haha
I went to prom with my friends and just did our thing. We rented a hotel room for the night and it was the funnest thing ever! The next morning we went to a restaurant downtown, walked around, and stalked some cute guys. LOL!
my prom was last weekend and my crush was there too but i was too scared to walk up to him so i spent the whole night dancing with my friends while watching him from across the dance floor. Then i left prom early and went to sonic with my friend. we sat there in my car in the sonic drive in even after they turned off the lights and we started telling scary stories and played with the ghost radar on the phone. It was a fun night even though i regret not talking to my crush. Great memories
My experience was similar to Phil's: At the time, my family owned a Baskin Robbins (Ice cream shop) and the one who I asked really likes Rainbow Sherbet, so I made an ice cream cake with "Will you go to prom with me?" written on top. We lived really close to each other, so I texted her to meet me at a good middle of where we lived. And like Phil, she said no and that she had no plans to go. I ended up just going with friends just for the experience and at the time, I bboy'd, so even without a date, I still had plenty of fun, cyphering (dancing) in a circle with a bunch of my friends The one who I asked DID end up going, but I don't know whether she had a date or not.
I hated my prom. I had a full time job and no time for girls, so I wasn't planning on going. It was a leap year so a classmate called and asked me to go. I don't know why because I never talked to her. I tried to beg off telling her I had to work. I couldn't afford it. I wasn't planning on going. She said she would pay and wouldn't take the hint, so I told her I'd call her back. I called the only girl I talked to because we grew up together. I asked her to get me out of it. She said no! I would have to tell her myself. I knew I would be crushed if a girl turned me down, so I agreed to go so she wouldn't get her feelings hurt. At the prom, my friends kept telling me I had to dance so we danced the last dance. Now, decades later, I feel bad it was such a bad night for her, but in my defense, I didn't want to go.
I didn't go to Junior prom. Senior prom....*sigh* I wish I had been able to go with friends. Instead, I was stuck with a guy who actually /asked my dad/ if he could take me. So if a promposal happened, it was only to him. My dad was his teacher (and no, my dad didn't teach at my school). No one consulted me, or asked how I felt. I actually already had plans. I barely knew this guy. We ran late, missed a bunch of stuff, and when I was finally slow dancing with a guy I liked....my date showed up (he went AWOL shortly after we arrived, which was fine with me). Then I had to dance with him. It was...awkward. I wasn't able to run around at the fair with my friends after either. I made the best of it though, so it wasn't a total loss. The masquerade theme was cool too. I don't care much for dressing up, but my mom finally let me get hair highlights, so that was good.

During my senior year, I went to watch Everything Before Us and meet Wong Fu instead of going to prom. I don't regret it at all :-)

The only reason I went to Prom was because it was Harry Potter themed and there was karaoke. They even had owls to greet you when you got there! It was pretty cool.

Dont be an idiot like me and try a giant promposal freshman year with a girl you barely know and do it in the middle of the school. I got some pretty strong Promposal PTSD.
For homecoming senior year my friend put on my locker "I've been searching for the perfect girl to take to hoco and I think I flounder" with a flounder stuffed animal (from little mermaid) and then for prom I asked him with a lion king reference "I'd be lion if I said I didn't have fun at hoco with you, so will you be the simba to my nala at prom?"

We had Jr/Sr Prom (small-town school). Junior year I was planning on going stag but then a friend from another town's school asked to go to my prom with me because his friend liked my friend, but my friend turned him down because she didn't want me to go by myself. So that's how I got a date to my junior year of prom. It was fun. Going with a friend meant no pressure - though afterwards everyone kept asking us why we didn't date because we were cute together. Then he kinda just disappeared and we stopped hanging out. Then senior year was the worst! Again I had no date. Neither did several of my friends so we decided to go together. Every year the Jr class paid for prom, which included a meal. That year the Jr class said they were only serving small snacks so my friends decided we would go eat. Everyone but me decided on Long John Silver's. Yeah. Then at the prom they all hooked up with guys at the prom, leaving me alone. During the fun party songs I danced, but whenever a slow song came on I was on the wall. Two of my guy friends asked me to dance because their girlfriends told them to because they felt sorry for me. Then another classmate since elementary school asked me to dance. He kept trying to pull me close to him and was doing some grinding-like moves. But he reeked of cigarettes so I stiff armed him the entire song. After prom my school always has an after prom party. Only one of my friends said she wanted to go. The plan was to go home, change, then meet at the YMCA (where the party was being held). I forgot something in my house so as I got out of my car to go back inside, I slammed my thumb in the car door. The rest of the night I had a purple, swollen thumb. My friend never showed up. All my other classmates were enjoying the rock climbing wall which I couldn't climb because of my bum thumb. So I was stuck alone watching movies. Someone finally remembered I was there and told me everyone was now roller skating so I should join. They had been skating for a while by the time I got my skates. Because of my bum thumb, it took a long time to lace up. Then by the time I finally was ready, everyone was done skating. A classmate expressed they felt bad that I would be skating alone. I said don't worry I'd just go around a couple of times then be done. As soon as my skate hit the floor, I fell back right on my butt in front of everyone. Needless to say, my experiences with prom aren't pleasant memories. The first, the beginning of a lost friendship and the second, one of the most humiliating nights of my life.
I only went with friends for dates to prom. It would be so casual at like lunch or the bus.
"Got a date yet?"
"No. You?"
"No."
"Wanna go together?"
"Sure"
And for my senior year we already agreed to go and people knew but he was super sweet and I think my friends half forced him? To still prompose to me.
He was big into origami like he was the king in school and everyone knew. So it was in my math class and he walked in during the middle of it and pulled out this bouquet of red and white origami roses and asked me out with like 5 other people from his class at the time and a few of our friends recording and clapping. Just fun and sweet loved it and the never wilt so I still have them next to the hand made corsage ^-^

My school has a junior-senior prom. So both juniors and seniors are at the same prom, but seniors have their own senior night too

My prom was juniors and seniors together and then freshman and sophomores were able to attend as dates only. We didn't have a prom for just juniors or just seniors with their dates.... my graduating class only had 331 students

My school has a junior-senior prom and it's tomorrow, but I'm not going this year.
My original prom date ended up not being able to go last minute, the week before prom because the school messed up his credits but in the end I went with a good friend of mine who didn't have a date. The night turned out really memorable and fun. Prom is a good one time experience
Went to junior and senior prom. Got asked to junior prom by a good friend (who i briefly dated after). Found out after-the-fact that the guy I had a previous on-again-off-again crush on wanted to ask me, but I already had a date at that point so he didn't get the chance. My prom date and I stopped dating because he was under the impression that I still liked on-again-off-again crush guy (which was not true, but I understood).
Senior year mutually agreed to go with a friend (asked each other at the same time and we briefly dated after). Found out years later that my former friend had a huge crush on my prom date and was furious that he and I were going together. Apparently she was trying to "sabotage" my rep behind my back, but no one believed her so I never heard of it. (That and my oblivious nature at that time kept me out of all the major prom drama. phew). No promposals, but had a blast anyway. I would not have wanted a promposal (i hate being the center of attention). Went with a large group of friends both times. After-prom was the best. Both great experiences.

Junior year, went with my older sister(senior) and her date and group. Some of them had dates and some went alone in the group as well. I was going to ask one of the girls in the group to dance but I chickened out.
Senior year, went with a group of friends. I was going to ask on of them to dance, but was waiting for a slow song but it never came up again. Plus, another one of the people in the group asked me to dance but she started doing the robot...haha
I went to prom with my friends and just did our thing. We rented a hotel room for the night and it was the funnest thing ever! The next morning we went to a restaurant downtown, walked around, and stalked some cute guys. LOL!

my prom was last weekend and my crush was there too but i was too scared to walk up to him so i spent the whole night dancing with my friends while watching him from across the dance floor. Then i left prom early and went to sonic with my friend. we sat there in my car in the sonic drive in even after they turned off the lights and we started telling scary stories and played with the ghost radar on the phone. It was a fun night even though i regret not talking to my crush. Great memories
My experience was similar to Phil's: At the time, my family owned a Baskin Robbins (Ice cream shop) and the one who I asked really likes Rainbow Sherbet, so I made an ice cream cake with "Will you go to prom with me?" written on top. We lived really close to each other, so I texted her to meet me at a good middle of where we lived.
And like Phil, she said no and that she had no plans to go.
I ended up just going with friends just for the experience and at the time, I bboy'd, so even without a date, I still had plenty of fun, cyphering (dancing) in a circle with a bunch of my friends
The one who I asked DID end up going, but I don't know whether she had a date or not.

I hated my prom. I had a full time job and no time for girls, so I wasn't planning on going. It was a leap year so a classmate called and asked me to go. I don't know why because I never talked to her. I tried to beg off telling her I had to work. I couldn't afford it. I wasn't planning on going. She said she would pay and wouldn't take the hint, so I told her I'd call her back. I called the only girl I talked to because we grew up together. I asked her to get me out of it. She said no! I would have to tell her myself. I knew I would be crushed if a girl turned me down, so I agreed to go so she wouldn't get her feelings hurt. At the prom, my friends kept telling me I had to dance so we danced the last dance. Now, decades later, I feel bad it was such a bad night for her, but in my defense, I didn't want to go.
I didn't go to Junior prom. Senior prom....*sigh* I wish I had been able to go with friends. Instead, I was stuck with a guy who actually /asked my dad/ if he could take me. So if a promposal happened, it was only to him. My dad was his teacher (and no, my dad didn't teach at my school). No one consulted me, or asked how I felt. I actually already had plans. I barely knew this guy. We ran late, missed a bunch of stuff, and when I was finally slow dancing with a guy I liked....my date showed up (he went AWOL shortly after we arrived, which was fine with me). Then I had to dance with him. It was...awkward. I wasn't able to run around at the fair with my friends after either. I made the best of it though, so it wasn't a total loss. The masquerade theme was cool too. I don't care much for dressing up, but my mom finally let me get hair highlights, so that was good.
