  • In this installment of the Nordic Sound Channel, I sit down with pagan folk veteran Kati Rán to talk about her two decades in the nordic dark folk scene, the changes she's seen take place over time, and of course, her new album Sála and her approach to the feminine skaldic perspective. Thanks for joining Kati, I'm really glad we got to tread some new ground for the channel in this chat!
Sála is out May 24th! Singles "Stone Pillars" and "Kólga | 16" are out now!

Hope y’all enjoyed the chat! What would you like us to talk about in the future if I were to have Kati on again? Write it here! Oh! And don’t forget to like the video - it’s the most helpful thing you can do to tell TH-cam’s algorithm this is good content :)

Finally. That feeling has been addressed and which is a MAJOR drive for the Nordic music scene. I was just thinking about that very thing. How the Celtic scene generally had a sort of jovial feeling whereas Nordic tends to embrace the mourning and anger to the world of the current era.

What are the two “gateway drug” bands that Kati mentioned jamming to?

Garmarna and Hedningarna are from an earlier generation of medieval/pagan inspired music :) They, along with others such as YM:stammen did a style that mixed a typical rock band rhythm section (guitar, bass, drums) with medieval-y folk!
