My mom played Schwarzkopf's operetta record over and over during my childhood- this song in particular stands out in my memory. Wonderful to see it for the first time on video-though I think hearing the voice without the visuals makes it more magical.
Thank you, viamusic, for posting this and reminding why I adored Dame Elizabeth so much. She may not have been "THE BEST", but no one bettered her in her repotoire.
I have to agree with you, Seamus Breathnach! Five stars for Elizabeth Schwartzkopf! I have to agree one hudred percent with you, Seamus Breathnach! Five stars and so much thanks to this great lady of song, five stars indeed!
UNA MARAVILLA.....A VER QUIEN LO PUEDE NEGAR...........JAMAS DE LOS JAMASES.......UNA GLORIA DE LA VIDA LA HISTORIA DE LA MUSICA...Y DEL SER HUMANO.........
A lovely example of Elisabeth's best Viennese " whoopsi" manner with operetta. For me she is at her finest in this and in lieder, whether with orchestra or piano. I find too much or her operatic repertoire somewhat arch.
I guess I am the only one who finds her singing mannered and managed -- she never just lets the voice and words come out cleanly. Too many notes are a coo or a meow. She swallows her high notes, and cracks several times, like at 2:46
No, you are not the only! When hear all those admirations about that "exquisit" voice I can laugh only... I saw her at the end of her carear in Breslaw in Poand. Boring, boring, boring!
The criticism here, well, I can't fathom it. Here is a singing actress of multiple attributes and great beauty and she comes in for a verbal slaying. Go figure.
@Amadeuswolfie Wolfie, I agree with you most of the way. But there are some old whiffs and colours that apply very personally to divas no less than persons. . . Give me Maria, Gundula, Netrebko, even Fleming any time... but neither Maria nor Gundula sing this strange old number... So, I am left with a hard trier and in the nominal sense, she does the trick with great gusto for me... But as I said, for most things I have to agree with you...
@sebreathnach really? don't you think she tries too hard all the time and always ends up sounding artificial and so fabricated. Listen to Beverley Sills and hear the difference.
I've found this beautiful song at last
One of the greatest opera arias sung by one of the world's greatest singers. I find her charm and personality quite overwhelming.
SO GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
divine elisabeth!!!quelle voix pour cette époque

Sie ist wirklich fantastisch. Ich liebe sie, ganz einfach!
Such beautiful lady with a voice of an angel. Love this aria from Opera Ball
Faszinieren und wunderschön.
My favourite female singer; and one of the few singers I have had a crush on.
Great performance !

Ineguagliabile, unica...!!
bello!
Schwarzkopf was great with operetta and lieder.
Her Marschallin in Rosenkavalier was great too.
Lighter material suited her.
divina....
Toda la elegancia de Viena
Schitterend. Helaas zijn er veel te weinig video opnamen.
Deze is van 1963 Canada.
IK HEB VAAK GEWERKT MET SAMEN Prof.dr. Jan Zwiggelaar .

She was alwaqys troubled on top and I was really surprised that I hardly understood a word. And I'm a native German.
!!!SUBLIME ¡¡¡¡¡¡¡

Sicherlich eine der elysäischsten Stimmen aller Zeiten, aber als Operettensängerin kann sie nicht aus ihrer Haut treten.
I thought she was Zsa Zsa Gabor I could not stop laughing at her affectations of her singing and facial expressions
This is operetta, not opera. Perfectly suitable.
