Awesome video! Great job! I'm doing this today! Got a quote for replacing catalytic converter, valve cover, gasket and air filter from local shop. They told me 1060 plus 130 diagnostic test. I told them to park it outside. Spent 140 online for the parts and of course I have to do the work but it's well worth it!
thank you for not making it 12 min video by actually showing jacking up the car ,putting jack stand under car and bunch of unnecessary talk, straight to the point, also if I were you I would 've used new stainless steel bolt, and some anti seize on bolts, great video,
A little trick for the bolts. Turn the nut upside down and screw about halfway onto bolt. Then strike the nut surface with the hammer. No risk of damaging threads this way. Cheers.
Nice vid. Clear, easy to hear, reasonably easy to see, and straight to the point. Couple of things: 1) I've seen someone else do this and they found that the bolts were soldered or tack-welded to the cat flanges, so you're lucky they came loose as readily as they did. I might've suggested screwing the nuts onto the ends of the bolts to protect the threads from being deformed by the hammer. 2) I'd advise putting a very small amount of anti-sieze compound on the O2 sensor threads (careful not to get any on the business end of the sensor!) so it doesn't corrode into place.
I might need to replace my cat soon on my 2005 Honda Accord (it's throwing a p0420 code) and watching this video made me way more confident that I can do it myself. Love when I can do things myself and not pay someone 300-plus dollars just for labor and then more for parts. now I just got to figure out if the problem is my O2 sensors or my cat. Thanks!
I forgot you can just un plug the sensor from under the car while replacing the converter. Mine is burnt out, it used to make the rattle noises but the burnt up honey comb had fallin out the exhaust muffler after i shaked it out. You made this eaiser than i thought, im ordering a new one so i can just do it knowing itll be easy, its a 02 Coupeccord lmao. Thanks bro
How is the catalytic converter from eBay works for you? Does it give you any problems in the last couple years. Thank you for the tutorial. Great video. Much appreciated!
Great video.you really make it look easy So easy, I'm going to try it myself.Tell me BEFORE I get started all tools wrenches & sizes.☺Thanks in advance
Does it matter if the catalytic converter i bought has the sensor in the middle instead of in the back of it like the one that is in my car? I have a 2000 honda accord.
Funny, I have a 2001 Accord too! It just turned 190,000 miles last week and almost right away the cat started rattling when I let off the gas and when idling, so it's being replaced now. How many miles was yours?
My 2001 Honda Accord EX V6 sedan has 188,520 miles on it and I hear a ticking/rattling sound from underneath the car, usually notice it when idling. Is this what yours did? And does rattling mean it needs to be replaced?
Did you use the warranty? I bought my Accord from my sister-in-law. At some unknown point the cat went bad and her husband threw on the cheap Fischer unit, which cost him $110. I found the same one for $86 and it has been functioning within specified parameters for a little over a year. The fun part is that it is now $142.65 on Amazon.
I have a 99 accord. My cat is rattling but no loss of power, not throwing codes. I don't want to spend a thousand dollars to replace it. Has an aftermarket cat been good for you? We're you throwing codes? Great video!
Did you not put the heat shield back on? I have a light on for bank 1 and bank 2. I didn’t know how simple it would be to replace it myself until I saw your video. Thanks!
Is there a light that's going to come onto the dashboard because I just bought my Honda accord and the guy said that it's going to have to be replaced. I don't want to spend like a $100 or so on something I didn't even need. Thanks for any helpful response, see ya
Your check engine light will come on and when you run the scanner code reader at auto zone they will let you know that it’s the catalytic converter. Just bought an 03 accord and thats what mine needs
Can anyone tell help me which catalytic converter fits in honda accord euro 2011 model. I am new to this thing but want to change myself buying from ebay.
at the 2:00 min mark, what is that other thing on the same exhaust path? It is nearer the front than the CC. I am not able to remove the nuts, as they are rusted on, and try to strip when I use wrench or sockets. Was thinking I might cut the pipe before and after the CC, remove and use a grinder to get rid of the old nuts and bolts, then use an adapter on both ends to reinstall the ends with the 3 holes for bolting on the CC. Any suggestions? Does that part at 2:00 also need replacing? TIA
Many people say to use a pipe, crowbar, or something to hollow out the cat. Then all of the pieces will fall out and you are supposed to be able to gain one whole horsepower. However, you will have a check engine light the whole time, and there is a chance that you will breathe in metal dust. Also, it is illegal in many places.
4:05 either this is wrong or the european version is different, but you should be using a gasket ring instead of this one for this car according to the replacement drawings im no mechanic tho
Haynes manual on Amazon. like this one: www.amazon.com/Honda-Accord-1998-2002-Models-Manuals/dp/1563925389/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1491573993&sr=8-1&keywords=1998+haynes+honda+accord+manual
Hey nick (or anyone else who knows the answer), I have an 2001 accord coupe 4cyl standard transmission. Would this be the same for my car? Also, I live in California... do they sell cats for California regulations at the price you got yours?
Extremely late reply, but it will be exactly the same for the coupe. I’m not knowledgeable about CA regulations though. Knowing about California, the prices might go up a bit.
Catalytic converters have platinum and palladium, which are both extremely valuable. The other thing that goes into how expensive cat's are is whether it's an OEM part (~$1,300 for one that would fit this Accord) or California compliant (~$400). California-compliant simply means it's more efficient and will clean emissions better.
I never seen a cat that cheap $100 Here in California $1000 is the cheapest For Honda, and they will steal it for precious metals inside the cat. 49 states cat is probably no precious metals in it so the pollution is high. The the carbons reactts to those metals turn it to carbon dioxide.
The cheapest one that I found was about $910 shipped, but that is with a $150 core charge. When I researched replacing mine last year one place was around $800 and I remember another being about $2,000. It is crazy what different dealerships charge!

Just make sure stainless steel bolts are same strength as honda bolts.
Very helpful video. Clearly explained. Organized. Well-edited. I'm about to to do change the one for my '02 Accord.
A little trick for the bolts. Turn the nut upside down and screw about halfway onto bolt. Then strike the nut surface with the hammer. No risk of damaging threads this way. Cheers.
i don''t need to replace my catalytic converter , but after watching this I going to do it anyway ! Thanks RACEX

use a rubber mallet to hit the bolts out or block of wood and then use a hammer. If you graze the threads, the bolts will be useless. Awesome vid
Good call!
or put the nuts on backwards so the face of the nut it flush with the bolt, and then hit them
Replacing that small piece can save your entire engine from messing up!. Word to the wise😅
Nick you are a lifesaver thanks for the vid! its going to save me tons of Skrilla!!!👊🏾
awesome video man. I'm just about to do this and you're guide was on point! Thanks!
How is the catalytic converter from eBay works for you? Does it give you any problems in the last couple years. Thank you for the tutorial. Great video. Much appreciated!
Made it look real easy! Nice video
Must be nice having little to no rust to deal with...
Do you have a video of the old rattle? I feel like mine is making a noise from that area.. im just trying to pin it down
Auto zone was charging me $1000 for the part, but online I could get it for $80-$120? Is there a difference?
Great video.you really make it look easy
So easy, I'm going to try it myself.Tell me BEFORE I get started all tools wrenches & sizes.☺Thanks in advance
Does it matter if the catalytic converter i bought has the sensor in the middle instead of in the back of it like the one that is in my car? I have a 2000 honda accord.
How well has that 3rd party cat held in the last 7 years?
Hey man you did a great job
thank you for the video made it look easy.
Great job, you answered all my questions. Thanks.
Did you replace the 02 sensor ?
Ordered one yesterday. Should be here on friday or saturday
YMMV but I like to use a little bit of antiseize compound. Nice video.
very educating. thanks for the video!
How's it holding up till this day?
Might as well buy universal CARB compliant and have muffler shop weld flanges on. Costs a lot less than the $1000+ direct fit ones rn.
What's up with these wide price ranges? Could I get the ones not legal in CA, and still pass emissions on my ULEM accord?
Ty bro u made it so easy for me to do...
Funny, I have a 2001 Accord too! It just turned 190,000 miles last week and almost right away the cat started rattling when I let off the gas and when idling, so it's being replaced now. How many miles was yours?
+bwc1976
Mine has 275,000 miles and is still running strong!
Awesome, hope mine can do the same.
mine started rattling about 215k miles, it's at 247k and the light just went on, so I'm replacing it.
My 2001 Honda Accord EX V6 sedan has 188,520 miles on it and I hear a ticking/rattling sound from underneath the car, usually notice it when idling. Is this what yours did? And does rattling mean it needs to be replaced?
@@HP_Quinn Correct, that's what mine did, and yes, would most likely need replacement.
The new catalytic converter last long? I got a part from Amazon for my minivan and lasted 3 month only
Did you use the warranty?
I bought my Accord from my sister-in-law. At some unknown point the cat went bad and her husband threw on the cheap Fischer unit, which cost him $110. I found the same one for $86 and it has been functioning within specified parameters for a little over a year.
The fun part is that it is now $142.65 on Amazon.
Did this work and did you have to have a special tool to unhook the O2 sensor?
Will this keep my check engine light off?
I have a 99 accord. My cat is rattling but no loss of power, not throwing codes. I don't want to spend a thousand dollars to replace it. Has an aftermarket cat been good for you? We're you throwing codes? Great video!
Stephen Black thanks. No, I wasn't throwing codes. Just annoyed by the rattle. Mine was pretty bad
@@PericlesPlan How many Catalytic converters does 98 -99 accord v6 have?
I heard 3, but not sure
this is a stupid question but is there directionality to catalytic converters? how did you know which direction to mount The new one?
In this case it the hole for the sensor made it obvious. If it was installed backwards there would be now way for the sensor to screw into it.
great video thanks a lot man..question brother can I use the same method forhonda accord ex 1999
yeah, its the same
Where did you get the cat?
Is there more than one 02 sensor to remove before you unbolt the plates
Great video my guy!!
Did you not put the heat shield back on? I have a light on for bank 1 and bank 2. I didn’t know how simple it would be to replace it myself until I saw your video. Thanks!
His new one came with a heat-shield on it, so not necessary to put the old one back on.
Great video, dude. Did you reuse the old bolts or did you get new ones from Honda and if so, how many did you need? I'm assuming six in all.
I re-used all of the old bolts (that's why I hammered them out of the old one). Yes, 6 total.
Hi is 6 cylinder?
amazing vid, thanks man.
Is this a 4 cylinder or V6?
Is there a light that's going to come onto the dashboard because I just bought my Honda accord and the guy said that it's going to have to be replaced. I don't want to spend like a $100 or so on something I didn't even need. Thanks for any helpful response, see ya
Your check engine light will come on and when you run the scanner code reader at auto zone they will let you know that it’s the catalytic converter. Just bought an 03 accord and thats what mine needs
erik herrera I took it there and they said there was no code and I took it to an autoshop and they said it was the catalytic converter
The Fox Den oh gotcha. Did they tell you how much it was going to be to get it replaced? I’m scared to find out how much it’s going to be for mine
erik herrera for me they said it was gonna be $303 when I found the same part for $179 down at O'Reilly's
Can anyone tell help me which catalytic converter fits in honda accord euro 2011 model. I am new to this thing but want to change myself buying from ebay.
did you use the old gaskets? I'm about to do this replacement but the new on I ordered from ebay didn't come with gaskets..
No, this replacement came with new gaskets.

Frank C thats the flex pipe. If everything is shot then chances are the flex is too.
4cyl or 6?
Thanks for the video very helpful. Was the catalytic converter california certified?
No it was not. I think you can find some that are for a decent price on eBay though
Great Video
Is this the same method for a 1998 Honda Accord DX 4 cyl?
Yes
will a flowmaster or magnaflow catalytic change the way it sound?
Dear. Jay
will a flowmaster or magnaflow catalytic change the way it sound?=Yes.
hellooo☺ i have a question this is the same for a honda accord 2007? thanks
It will be a very similar.
Is this method the same on a 2007 Accord?
is there a way to just empty out the old one so it doesnt rattle?
Many people say to use a pipe, crowbar, or something to hollow out the cat. Then all of the pieces will fall out and you are supposed to be able to gain one whole horsepower. However, you will have a check engine light the whole time, and there is a chance that you will breathe in metal dust.

How long are the bolts?
Where is the catalytic converter located
Where can I find it
Does the oxygen sensor need to be replaced too?
I did not replace mine. If you get errors codes for an oxygen sensor then yes.
How do you know if you need to replace it?
The noise. It sounds horrible. Its a rattle that barely stops.
That 02 sensor you put back, is that the upstream or downstream 02 Sensor?
Joe Swansons downstream
4:05 either this is wrong or the european version is different, but you should be using a gasket ring instead of this one for this car according to the replacement drawings
im no mechanic tho
Is this the fix for code P0240 on 04 Accord sedan?
Should be P0420, I believe.
what website did u find the catalytic converter
Rey Alonso EBay
Nick Kufus is there anyone u can recommend me for a 1998 honda accord manual
Haynes manual on Amazon. like this one: www.amazon.com/Honda-Accord-1998-2002-Models-Manuals/dp/1563925389/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1491573993&sr=8-1&keywords=1998+haynes+honda+accord+manual
Were you loosing power because of this?
or are they all the same for anycar
Are you selling this Honda Accord?
Was your car burning a lot of gas
No, I didn't notice a difference in gas consumption
why does it need replacement or why was yours needed replacement
Daniel Lopez it was rattling
will this method work on a 98 honda accord?
Andrew Hoang did nick ever get back to you? I asked him a similar question.
Thx.
Yes

Yes, I think it is pretty much an identical process
Wow. Got really lucky getting those nuts off. Mine is so rusted that the sensor won't even come off.
No way them nuts came off that easy🤨
