My favorite. I love how they are into the music they’re playing.

Definitely nothing outrageous about the scoring of the music but so very musical and I can certainly appreciate that. A very solid foundation is evident throughout each section and that is good to see. I would like to know about the thought process of deciding to play matched grip in the snare line. I'm sure there is a good reason. Glad I stumbled onto this group and will be watching and following their progress. Thanks for sharing!

Dennis Johnson Drummer assuming it applies to this line also, some directors just see it as a more accessible and manageable approach. it’s easier to balance the hands, it’s probably easier to clean and it’s not a new technique that causes players to go through the whole “unlearn, relearn” thing... not a fan of it personally because i’ve been on a CLEAN 6-person snare line that played some high-level music with a couple of beginners that just worked their butts off. no diss to the vandergrift students though, because it wasn’t their decision.

Dennis Johnson Drummer this isn’t a school focused solely on marching percussion, they have several large concert programs, so rather teaching two grips they simply teach one universal grip all around. Marching isn’t their main focus, most of these players are in several other percussion ensemble type deals conducive to matched playing. Or at least that’s what I’ve been told. Personally I’ll be teaching matched this spring because the group stems from a concert band and is just their marching division, so it would t be worth it to teach the kids traditional just for a bunch of parades.also as I understand it right now they are expecting a pretty young crowd for me to teach. Fresh into high school age.

Dennis Johnson Drummer teaching match is a lot easier than traditional and it's quicker to clean. There are groups out there that play traditional, but don't play it right. My group this year will continue to play match because we've had that problem in the past

matched grip has more variables therefor harder to play cleanly with a group of people

Imagine running a drone 360 around them as they played. It's possible now. Since my neices (Megan and Meadow Zeltner ) are in the band, I am happy to help with advice on the video stuff.

How do I get better at playing the quads ? I try my best and I know how to read music I just have some trouble when switching on 8th notes or whatever they are called

All about the wrist and using the correct spacing in between notes to get the best sound and the best access to the rhythm and notes needed. If you need more info/help my insta is the same as my TH-cam channel name😄👍🏼

Did they cut the drum break from the show? I don't remember hearing the drum break at 6:32 in the Grand Nats version of the show. Maybe I just didn't hear it, but who knows.

The solo breaks were just for the standstill version of the show that were only used for drumline competitions.
