    I'm so glad you've covered this case. I'm a huge fan of yours and I had the absolute privilege of meeting Emma several times when she was head of Croydon High School. Personally touched to see you speak about her.
    Something you may not know, Emma was a huge advocate of making private education accessible to all. She forged a relationship with a foundation that gave children from less affluent families the opportunity to recieve free, private tuition to prepare them for secondary school exams. My daughter was chosen for the programme and she's now absolutely thriving at the school, with a bursary and an opportunity I could never have provided on my own. Emma was a huge part of that and she was truly one of the kindest, most amazing human beings I have ever met.

      Perhaps but this is hardly the time or place for that argument right now is it. This is about a Mother and her young daughter having their lives stolen. I don’t think there’s any privilege you could have offered their family to make them agree to that!

      @@ThePinsayshe wouldn't have had the power to change education for all but she was obviously trying to do her best to give as many as possible the opportunity and would have accomplished a lot more if she didn't have the opportunity taken away from her

    I'm glad that you cover these type of cases! Back in 2020 one of business partner annihilated his soon to be ex-wife, her boyfriend and their one-year-old daughter chased his 8 year old down the road in the middle of nowhere, she survived it, she's only one out of all of them, he took his life when he couldn't catch her. It hurts me how senseless it all was! It's nice to hear somebody from your profession explain the psychological part of such tragedies.

    • @michellesartori6695
      @michellesartori6695 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      Do you know how the daughter is coping? It will haunt her forever, and PTSD is a horrible thing. I can't imagine the trauma of what you described play out and having your father try to kill you too and then take his life when he failed to do so. I hope that she has a good family to take care of her, and she manages to navigate these upcoming teenage years, which can be rough even without the trauma the child you are describing endured. I have been busy, and I have only just got an opportunity to listen to this, but I always read the comments, and yours stuck out! Family annihilation is SUCH a tragedy every single time!"

    • @JojoAnnashua
      @JojoAnnashua 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@michellesartori6695 Thank you for caring about the situation that she went through! That is actually how I got into true crime so I could try to understand why someone would do this. The individual that did this actually cut off everyone's heads and that poor girl had to see all of it happen. I know that she had seven other siblings that were not living in the household from a previous relationship from their mother. So, she has a good family basis to go forward with. The hardest part is knowing that the "father's" family rationalizes for that individual aka the "father" who did this's behavior. I really wish this story would be told because she is a survivor and I feel like her story has not been told. This includes her mother, her baby, and her boyfriend and the detrimental effects of his long term use of party drugs "aka acid, mushrooms, and MDMA" and how it can affect the mind to the point of causing said issue. As someone who has CPTSD and has gone through a lot of childhood trauma, I can't even begin to understand how much that little girl has gone through and what she deals with every single day. Not a day goes by that I don't think about her and hope that she has the strength and resilience to move forward in life in the most positive way possible.

    Excellent analysis, Emma. Your explanation of the punitive reason behind blaming Emma for the domestic violence incident in 2016, helped me understand why the same thing happened to me. My abusive partner struck himself in the face when I went to leave him and called the police to lie and say I'd harmed him. I am a teacher too and I was put in a jail cell over the weekend until the case was dismissed on the Monday. Thankfully, I did leave him.

    My daughter is disabled, and because of this, when she was small, we had a social worker working with us and helping us.
    She would visit us once every couple of weeks, bearly a few months had passed when she asked me if my relationship with my partner was OK. I told her a couple of bits not much, I didn't want to seem like I was being dramatic.
    From those few small bits, she told me it was abuse and helped me get away.
    I didn't see it for what it was, i knew i didnt want to be with him anymore but i didnt know how to leave, i had no support from my family. I had a friend constantly telling me to get away, it took an impartial person standing outside to convince me.
    It was years later, before I finally saw the relationship for what it was.
    For me, part of being in an abusive relationship was not knowing it was abusive. In my mind, I was being dramatic and probably deserved it.
    This is NEVER the case, it doesn't matter if you sleep with their father/mother, violence is not OK ❤

    I live a few minutes away from the college and I remember when it happened. It was a terrible tragedy that everyone in the town felt repercussions of. I remember I walked on the campus grounds about a week after that and there was a mass in their church, I assume in the intention of the headteacher and her daughter. I sat on a bench outside and a woman walking her dog asked me if I was okay. That was very nice and thoughtful of her.
    Right now, they have signs at the entry that prohibit outsiders from walking onto the campus and I think they have been placed there after the murder. Sad, because it is a beautiful area.

    36:29 what Emma said here is so important and I’m glad she mentioned it. Giving the impression that everyone who ends up in an abusive situation must be highly sensitive and/or vulnerable is so far from the truth. I’m highly sensitive and when I was younger was 100% *highly* sensitive and *highly* vulnerable and that was taken advantage of, my mum however is sensitive in her own way but outwardly a very tough lady. She was in the army, then she was a prison officer; she’s one of those people who is calm and level headed in almost all situations, she gets emotional like 99% of human beings do but she’s very good at controlling her emotions and from the outside you’d never ever think she’s someone who would be abused. You’d think, and many people did, “hell no she would never take that kind of nonsense, she’d defend herself and she’d kick said abuser out on their ear and never let them near her again” but that wasn’t the case sadly. My dad beat her badly many times, and she kept it a secret from everyone. She did the typical “no I fell over in the shower and hit my head on the tap”. Not because she wanted to protect my dad, but because I think deep down she didn’t want to appear weak. Of course we all know being abused does *not* mean you’re a weak person but I think that’s what was going on in her mind. It’s really important that we change this narrative that only “weak” or “vulnerable” people can be abused because it’s the furthest thing from the truth

    Emma is there any chance you will cover the case of the women in the UK that unalived her parents then lived in the house with them for years, the way she was so calm and telling the police where they would find her parents as if she was telling someone where her lost watch is was crazy

      The word is dead. No such word as unalived. Get it right

    What a beautiful tribute at the end. Wow! Sometimes I listen to true crime back to back through my working week and sadly forget the gorgeous soles left behind after someone takes their life but this had me in tears. Such a very tragic case & loss to the world ❤

    Thx Emma. And Thx for making clear that the incident where the police was called was part of controlling her. Successful women are often seen negatively to feed the narrative that only men are capable to deal with pressure and are brilliant, kind and loving.

    Such a sad story but so important to dispel the myth that women who are abused are weak or a certain way. She'll be remembered for the way she loved and lived, not for the way they died.

    So glad you covered this, remember this on the news. Please look at Alex Skiel, this is the flip side (hate that term) but it looks into female assault and coercive control on her male partner

    I guess I'm lucky and had a blessed life, but family is where you go back to when you need help. " Mum, I'm pregnant," dad, my car, broke down. My family just took me in without judgment. I am sorry for people who don't have a safe house.

    This is another awful case, Emma and that beautiful little girl deserved so much better than that murderer in their lives - how can one half of couple feel jealous of their success they should be so proud of them!
    Thanks for another in depth case as sad as it is. Only just managed to finish your book today, brilliant and I had never heard of two of the women serial killers. X

    If anyone has been hesitating on getting any merch because of being unsure, go for it! I now have 3 hoodies and two t shirts and have no plans on stopping there! 😂 ✌🏻🙏🏼❤️
