      @@AndyK.1 Okay so I live in Hungary and the electricity supplier is eon. The setup is like this: you have got an mcb which is the main fuse {the owner can turn that off to isolate the property} above it the electricity meter and the fuseboard. Now my problem is that the "main mcb" of ours is single phase B32. But it can get still worse. In a new property they give only 16 AMPS AS A NORMAL. IT'S CRAZY AND SHIT! Upgrade £15/amp. In my case the fuseboard is sadly missing. The whole house is on a 32 amp ring WITH 27 AMP ALUMINIUM CABLES (except the kitchen which is wired in 4mil copper. No other circuits not even an rcd. Now i'm an electrician myself. I live with my parents. Old people are Conservative. They said that they don't want a rewire no matter how hard i try to convince them.

    From the USA here, when running multiple sockets we would pigtail or run them in parallel. This way if one socket goes down the down stream sockets are not affected. I'm going to Italy to rewire a house soon, are parallel circuits not done for a reason with 220v? Or maybe I'm not seeing something here?

    • @jakeg12345
      @jakeg12345 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Multiple sockets are always run in parallel in the UK. Maybe you are confused by the term 'ring' which refers to a ring final circuit. This doesnt mean the sockets are wired in series - they are in parallel but the final socket is also wired back to the consumer unit. The point being that you then essentially have two radial circuits with split load and can therefore use a smaller sized cable. As far as I know, this method of installing socket circuits is peculiar to the UK so I wouldnt assume that they do it in Italy. I guess you will have to look into their codes and regs anyway.
      Pigtailing isn't done as standard on UK sockets (that means bringing your neutral from the socket to a wire nut or connector with the incoming and outgoing neutrals right?) as our sockets are bigger than US ones and the terminals are designed to accept two conductors which are typically 2.5mm^2 (awg 14) and so there is nothing in our regulations to state that you cant rely on the socket to maintain continuity.

    • @johndallara3257
      @johndallara3257 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jakeg12345 ok, I see what you are saying. I'm not an electrician and really only applying mechanical knowledge here. Pigtailing here in the US, the load, neutrals and the ground are wire nutted to incoming and outgoing.
      Wouldn't having the socket create the parallel increases the chance that any non performing socket may cut all downstream flow of electricity?
      If I pigtail to the socket would this create an unsafe condition due to the either socket design or Europe's use of 220v? Thanks for the info, all I want is a safe well performing service..

    • @jakeg12345
      @jakeg12345 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@johndallara3257 Its possible but then in the UK socket circuits are mostly wired as a ring so each socket is essentially two circuits so if you completely unterminated a socket, the rest of them would then be on two seperate radials albeit with potentially insufficient conductor size. I dont know what local regs say in Italy but for a start, I doubt they use ring final circuits. In any case, if you don't know local code - you should certainly find out before you do a rewire. In the UK, as an unqualified person you would not be able to do such work without having the local authority test and inspect it for approval. Even then, as an unqualified person you would still need to be a competent person i.e. show knowledge of the techniques and standards expected to be used. Pigtailing sockets may be the standard solution in Italy - I have no idea other than to say that if they do, they would be more likely to use wago spring lever connectors or some other connector rather than wirenuts as the latter are not common in Europe

      My lecturer said that exposed and extraneous conductive parts must be earthed. Fair enough. But then he said to consider the back box.....
      Is it exposed?
      No, it's buried in the wall.
      Is it extraneous?
      No, it's a part of the electrical installation.
      So therefore does it need to be earthed......No.

    What ear protection are you using for chasing walls, I just got myself 3M 27 rating (apparently it covers range up to 90db) but I haven't tried it yet, would that be enough?

    Hi, I am looking to do something similar but just to understand.
    From the first socket, the one near the door, you will run a cable to the socket from left corner and then from there another cable to the other side. And from the last socket you will run another cable to the first socket near the door? That is the ring system?

    Why are you bearing joints in the floor when you could put your joint in the box this way if you ever have to do any testing it's accessible behind one of the outlets versus having to take the carpet up take the wood up and find your connection in the floor

    Stop being lazy n do a proper professional job!
    Also. Even though it doesn't do anything. I'd of still whipped that old cable out n just make good. For the amount of work you've done, you might as well of just done that as well.

    ive moved into a house and i own it now. one bedroom has just one double socket and is on a plaasterboard wall. i want to fit maybe 3 more along the wall for my office space, PC, printer, speakers etc. so i imagine something like a fused spur and then 3 double sockets. is this something I need signed off or a certificate for, if so I get a spark to do it.

    Does Adding sockets such as this in the UK, require signing off by an electrician ? Or is this allowed as a DIY install ? Did some internet research but not clear what the refs are....thanks

    Wow that’s a lot of work to have to take out the carpet and underground , I guess it’s on how houses codes run , here we got almost all electric on the ceiling running just all other cables that have sub panels externally. When you guys do this it’s more like a remodeling right you got to have not only electricians but painters .

    Nah, sorry the patching of the tracks can be so much easier.... all you need is bonding and skim mixed... do it once and it's finished, no sanding.

    I used to use bonding without PVA and skim on top. I used a trowel for the bonding and a float trowel for the skim. Smooth as a baby's bum!

      Totally agree Simon especially if using Toupret, decorator Chris swears by it, when he's finished never know wasn't the original surface before us sparks get to it, I personally used some of the sticky orange mesh tape and pink grip before I roughed chases in, for a mate , I didn't want it cracking away, like I've seen in past, overkill maybe

    I know the theory that you don't need to put an earthing cable on the back box - but as this takes 30 seconds - why not do it ?

    • @jondonnelly3
      @jondonnelly3 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I don't know why they don't install a seperate circuit for each room and put each on a 20 amp rcbo for maximum safety and minimal outage. Why bother with split load consumer units, rings any of that. Fuk code, common sense.

    Literally my new favourite channel, I’m not a sparky to trade, I was an alarm technician for 17yrs cctv alarms etc etc mostly installation work and a few years as a service technician, I’ve been out the game for 4yrs but this has helped me rewire my house with the advice of my electrician mate, basically I’m doing the labour and cabling and fit out taking it up to the point the board needs done. My old electrics in this house are scary bad so currently rewired my upstairs lighting and ring main sockets and downstairs lighting, I am leaving my downstairs sockets/kitchen early next year as we have a new kitchen going in.

    You should put your ring final cpcs in the different earth terminals as in case a terminal comes loose you would lose both cps. If you have them seperate you always have an earth connection.
