    I have a 19 year old grey named Smokie. Last week she was on my shoulder in the kitchen "helping" me clean up. I opened the refrigerator and, as I leaned in, she turned to me and said, "Are you hungry?" I just about fell on the floor laughing. Everything I pointed at she'd say, "Mmmmm. Want some!" So I took out an apple and she went to town.
    It's impossible to explain how much I love my "little girl". She's never boring and she fills my life with laughter.

    Thanks for that great story! I have had similar experiences with Poppy. I asked her what I should have for lunch and she said "How about fish?". Or I told her I was going to make a salad and asked her what should I put in it? She said "how about celery?" I said what else? She said "pepper" I asked What else. She said "carrots"! I love her with the greatest love a person can have! So I understand you completely.

    Popi is very cute. I have an African Grey Congo Mariah and a Timneh Mica. They are so much fun. I just put out Mariah's first youtube video. She likes to scold the dogs for barking. I have one that barks a lot. I look forward to seeing more of Popi.

    Poppy does similar things. When I yell at her she says "sorry". If I tell her she is pretty she says "thank you". When she wants another almond she says "want more". They are so smart!!

    As a long time parrot owner I should tell you up front that all parrots scream especially when their needs are not met. By that I mean they are very social creatures and need a great deal of affection and attention. A lonely bird will scream. To own a parrot is a big responsibility and commitment to their well being.

  • @tacoalf
    @tacoalf  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    Parrots require a lot of work. They are great pets if you have the time to spend with them as they can get very lonely if left alone for any length of time. Poppy never stops talking so I would say yes she is very noisy. Sometimes she squawks and the noise can be very annoying. Parrots are also very messy and throw their food all over the place. You need a vacuum on hand at all times. On the other hand she is a wonderful friend and companion and very entertaining.

  • @tacoalf
    @tacoalf  11 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    When I am mad at her and tell her she is in big trouble, she will reply with "I'm sorry!"
    When I tell her how pretty she is she says "Thank you!"
    So you be the judge.

    Wow . I see there's a lot of jealous people here. There's no way . This is one of the best videos. They are all good. I love poppy the best parrot ever. So don't mind the jealous people because that's all it is is jealousy. They probably have a parrot that's not as smart as Poppy. I watch poppy everyday and he makes my day. I love love love him. Thank you for the videos. You did a fantastic job with him.

    He us sooo cute!! I hv a 12 wks old baby he is sooo naughty, got him wen he was 6 wks old, it's hard work looking after them just like a 6 month old human baby, my Alfie barks copies my dog and makes kiss sound... Wen did urs start talking??

    • @tacoalf
      @tacoalf  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      My first African Grey was named Alfie. She was a wonderful bird and I had her for 28 years. Poppy is now 7 and if I recall she started talking around 1 year old perhaps sooner. People dont realize how much work a parrot involves and how much attention they need. Its a major commitment but the joy they give us is immeasurable.

    Oh, that is a very good question! If no one is home then there is no way to know if she is talking! But she does talk when I am in the other room so a human doesnt have to be present, at least we know that.

  • @tacoalf
    @tacoalf  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi Beats, No, Poppy is not a cuddling parrot and she doesn't like to be petted either. What she does like is to have her head and neck scratched though. She is sweet and gentle. Timneh are smaller grays, Im not sure about their talking ability. Be aware that all parrots can be very loud at times especially if they are not getting enough attention.

    As A parrot is not like a dog to rough and tumble with and some choose not to talk. So if you have all these requirements you may be very disappointed and the bird you buy will have an unfortunate life. Maybe this is not what you want to hear but its best to know in advance what might happen if you have unrealistic expectations. I hope this helps and that you make the right decision for you and the bird. Best wishes

  • @tacoalf
    @tacoalf  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    Over 12 minutes of non stop talking!

  • @tacoalf
    @tacoalf  11 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Sorry, I thought I replied previously. Poppy does not like to cuddle. She is not from a cuddly species. If you want cuddling you best do that with a cockatoo. Unfortunately cockatoos require constant cuddling and attention so beware! If they dont get enough attention they will scream and very loudly.

  • @tacoalf
    @tacoalf  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    Eclectus can be extremely loud, African Greys can have an irritating call, and Amazons can be a difficult bird to own as they are unpredictable. There are no guarantees that the bird you buy will love you and your family. Sometimes a bird will bond with one person and dislike the rest of the group which can be very frustrating for both you and the bird.

    Thank u for replying, I hv written to soo many grey owners but none replied😒... My baby refuses to eat by himself still has to b hand fed, he does not eat seeds nor pellet nor water I hv to give him, he weighs 535gm and I am worried, he is very active and naughty, does not like his cage, it's become difficult as he flys around the house, I am worried he is going to get hurt hence I am stuck in the house as I can't leave him...please help me and advice me regarding eating and how to wean him and make him go into his cage... Many thanks!!

      I hope this is going to gizmo. You tube has made it difficult to reply to comments. You may send emails to me directly at tacoalf@aol.com.
      As far as Alfie goes I would say you got her too soon from the breeder who should be doing the weaning, not the owner. You should not be having to hand feed a bird that comes home. Her wings should be clipped properly by a qualified vet so that she doesn't fly around and hurt herself.
      You also need to take Alfie to an avian vet as soon as possible. She has problems which need to be addressed quickly and soon.
      Please let me know that you received my message by responding to my private email address with the word Alfie in the subject line and we can talk further

    Oh ok im so sorry I hear her now, and sorry for calling her a he. I want one really bad, but I don't know how easy or hard it is to take care of them. I love all animals and a parrot or parrotlet is one that I've always wanted. And I give my animals alot of attention, maybe to much because they're spoiled rotten and demand everything they want and get it especially attention

    • @tacoalf
      @tacoalf  10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It is a great deal of work to own birds, I can tell you from experience. They need a lot of attention just like a little child. They throw their food around, are very messy and I am constantly cleaning up after them. When they are out of the cage (and they need to be out most of the time) you have to watch them so they dont chew up your house. Fresh foods must be prepared daily and cleaned up daily as well. Cages need to be kept clean. The larger the bird the more work is involved. Hope this helps you make a decision.
