- Here's the audience reaction video for the Overwatch: Infiltration/Sombra animated short, including the hack leading up to it during the opening ceremony of BlizzCon 2016! Sorry for the shaky camera this time, my tripod was too short to rise above people's heads in front, so I had to hand hold it. Always a treat to hear what thousands of people think live!

Dommy Nommy it was mostly noice cancellation on blizzard's part, they've done it before. You can notice severe audio shifts between the overwatch logo at the end and zarya's appearance
Hwat. This isn't blizzard's audio or video though? Its taken straight from the audience and I'm not sure blizzard's created noise cancellation for that
Overwatch animated shorts are fun to watch but sadly I'm not a fun of the game or any shooters in particular because 1. I'm getting sea sick/nausea when playing shooters and 2. Not really good at it. just prefer playing RPGs and TPS like Final Fantasy and MGSV.

Ashe reveal was dope. I liked the Sigma trailer too. None will surpass this one tho.
I mean not really i don’t remember Ana having that much hype and she was the first hero, this one did get a lot of hype but it was becuase Overwatch was teasimg it for months.

When the screens started to glitch and lag, everyone knew what was going on and were absolutely HYPED!
honestly I had no idea when watching the live stream, I usually stay away from any spoilers until an official trailer or anything and I also haven't vistied the OW offical homepage in motnhs so I had no idea what the new character was about I had no idea they had the homepage "hacked" so I honestly thought it was a technical failure and I laughed so hard at home about blizzard fucking up the presentation when suddenly the stream goes completely nuts with all the flashing images and slowly Sombras logo gets clearer and clearer, you hear her voice and I'm like "Waiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiittt.................... no way" AND BOOM there she is and I'm fucking flabbergasted, mouth wide open.
Way to announce a character, and ignorance is bliss in this case
As someone interested in becoming a theater technician, the atmosphere during the hacking phase was absolutely amazing. Whoever was in charge of the lighting bit deserves a raise.
Starkami Theater the atmosphere was earned. There was a cryptic breadcrumb trail about her for a year hyping her up more than most triple A games.

_This._ Oh my god, this. The level of programming and technical thought required to set up and time the LED system like that, especially with the amount of DMX data going to the motorized instruments, is insane. I aspire to work on the tech team of one of these presentations someday.
Also, I hope you've pursued that interest! I'm in the second year of a University theatre program with a specialization in tech at the moment. I'm just starting to learn a fraction of what goes into all this, and I love it!

Not even just this but there were hidden messages in game for months before this and people were speculating Ab who it could be then we finally get a chance to see her! I wish they still did hero releases like this today.
Not only did she hack BlizzCon, she even set up a whole damn light show before for her entrance. this makes me want to be a sombra main.

Over 3 years later and we are left wondering "what happened to Blizz". They put so much into the release of Sombra. And almost every other hero after Sombra has just been "hey it's in the ptr now, check it out".
Blizzard realised they couldnt do a hero reveal on the same level as sombra for each hero, it would halt the game production even more
That animation took like 6-10 months to make, that time could've been spent on other stuff in the game, I'm not complaining at all, but I'm just saying it's not possible to get these videos for every hero. Also fuck mei

This reveal was AWESOME. We were talking for months how cool it would be if she hacked the announcement and they did.

Still hype about this in 2019. Sombra is straight up coolest character in the game. She has everything, cool concept, cool revelation, cool backstory, cool personality and the best POTG ever
I still can't decide if the "hacked" intro is better or the "translocator" one. Both so good, and her dance emote is the best one.

I was in that room when it happened. And the goosebumps were at a maximum.
Also most people knew it was Sombra so it went exactly like this:
1) On the first glitch, people went oh no that's so bad!
2) People murmured to each other, themselves: Sombra! You could hear it roll through the room because so many of us were saying it.
3) Everyone went apeshit when the glitch was obviously made up.
4) Epic experience ensued
I could only imagine what it was like in the room where it happened...
Too bad OW hero reveals lost it’s hype nowadays. This was honestly super wholesome, so much people getting hyped over one thing.
I miss when Overwatch was this exciting. The hype for Sombra was real. No other character reveal will ever top this.

The Sombra ARG was pretty maddening, but let's be honest, the audience wouldn't have been this hyped over a glitching video if it never happened.
Theres is more joy and cheering in this "little" presentation than on E3 the last years. (sorry for my bad english)
a lot of the people in E3 are press or "personalities" that have been invited, it's not the same crowd of enthusiastic fans.
Well, E3 is an industry event, Blizzcon is a fan event.

Arguably one of the best video game character reveals ever. The build up and hype for Sombra was insane. Hope blizzard goes back to revealing heroes in a fun and engaging way in Overwatch 2.
sadly Blizzard absolutely betrayed the trust of fans over the last few years, over and over and over again. Nobody really cares about Overwatch as much anymore, and I say that as someone who plays Overwatch regularly.

TF2 got a lot of hype with it's updates and even if they would make an update now everyone would lose their mind, and it's a decade old game. Besides some new heroes, only one of them having a really good origin story we didn't get anything. No new storyline, no new interactions, and no cinematics like this. It has lost it's hype and I doubt it will get anything on this level ever again, but it was because of the creators only going for balances and OW2

Safe to say overwatch has lost it’s spark. All the original team has left, all the original ideas are gone, now it’s just a generic team shooter. There’s no playing for fun, or to have a nice time, or to think about what might come next, just only playing to win.

This was one of the greatest blizzcon moments. The idea and the execution of "how do we release a new hero who is centered around hacking" was mint. So much fun and creativity--props to the blizzard team who came up w/ this.

We were in Hall E buying merch during the opening ceremony but they played it on the screens there. I got hyped when the audio started skipping but it looked a lot cooler at the main events stage!!
I remember watching someone's Overwatch stream, and them going, "Sombra had better hack the stream". I thought, yeah that would be pretty cool...
Then here... when the first signs of the video glitching out... yeah, that was awesome.
Sure, kind of predictable, but it's all about the execution.

I still remember fondly how the community back then were putting together theories as to who this Sombra was? And the build up to who Sombra is was insane!
I will forever look back fondly on this reveal and the communities hunt for the lore behind the character! No character reveal will in my eyes top this!

@@rony9352 they haven't made much animation for new heroes expect Ashe. And the lack of Zen/Lucio lore has kept Overwatch players waiting for years, some of them even left due to toxicity and only skins for event, the hype factor is what keeping games going, but since Sombra, there isn't a big hype until OW2 launches, which is kinda sad tbh

ok. let me explain. reindhart has a massive shield coming from his arm. the shield is blue and has the cool pattern on it. tahts exactly what the shield had on it. it couldnt be doomfist because doomfists gauntlet is black and yellow while that was clearly white. and before you say doomfist could have a shield like that that would just be a copy paste of reindharts shield. and thats why it was more like reindhart than doomfist.

Sombra was one of the most hyped up characters for overwatch. People had been making theories about her sense release. That's why this was so big.
