the platforms are looking nice, glad to finally be able to see a full picture of them. also, stations with missing platforms numbers are pretty cool imo. it makes you wonder why its like that and makes you look back into history about the station :D
Took a trip from Newcastle to Sydney on Sunday the 29th of December (unfortunately we got OSCARs both ways instead of getting to ride a Mariyung) and the Sydney Terminal building was reportedly closed for trackwork, with all trains that would normally terminate there instead terminating at Strathfield (even regional trains). I'm guessing that this had something to do with reconfiguring the tracks or the overhead wires to support the rebuilt platforms in this video. Transport NSW was recommending that we disembark at Strathfield and change onto a service down the main line to Central but I decided to change at Epping instead and take my first ever trip on the Metro under the harbour.
I worked 21 years in Sydney as a Bus driver. There were a group of us who would sneak down to the Redfern end of the platforms for a sneaky cigarette whilst waiting for the South Coast Services.
Hi Phil, the new platforms look great. I like how they have modernized Central Station without losing it's character. I only wish they had done that with Spencer Street station rather than completely rename and rebuild it. It will be interesting seeing if the South Coast trains use the new platforms. Maybe they could renumber one of the unused underground platforms as 15, just to keep their numbers right. If they ever decide to run light rail trams across the Harbour Bridge to Wynyard, platforms 1 and 2 may make a comeback. Anyway, all the very best. Rob in Melbourne Australia.
odd they didn't finish that final stretch of overhead wire for platform 13, especially given the civil works at the station finished 5 days before the end of the weeks-long possession.
Talking about platform numbers there's quite a few stations that have missing numbered platforms. Including Epping that doesn't have a platform 4. They just have 1, 2 & 3 Sydney trains and 5&6 Metro.
First of all, P15 don't exist anymore (removed for metro construction and not reinstated). Second of all, P13 and P14 are to help accomodate the new 10 car Mariyung sets, which will run on BMT, CCN, and SCO lines. They needed more 10 car long platforms to cope with the all the intercity lines terminating at Central hence the platform extensions.
@@sydneytrainsvlogs Won't be opening till the next Sydney Terminal possesion which won't be until March, since overhead isn't installed and a couple other things need to be completed
@@EP-qo7lo I was sure Platform 1 was longer, but I used Google Earth to do a quick comparison. Don't forget that platforms 12/13 end at the new Northern Concourse, which extends South of the Grand Concourse, where platform 1 ends.
The answer is no, not even close. Idk the exact length of the platforms but what I do know is: P1 is 16 cars long P2 and P3 both 14 cars long P4 to P11 all 10 cars long P12 to P13 used to be 8 cars long, now extended to 10 cars long P14 is 10 cars long
I dont think you have ever commented on the new buildings with pattern brickwork at the end of the platforms. I assume they have something to do with the metro. Can you know more?

I've a pearler of a place for you...Maldon rail bridge...an unfinished project of the 80's...apparently Lindsay fox put a stop to it as he'd loose business

8:43 Also Tallawong on the M1 line has an odd numbering to it seeing as it only has platforms 2 and 3 and not platforms 1 and 2
That’s interesting!
Maybe they are thinking of building another platform in the future

Will they make the rest of the platforms like this or just leave them like they are
Will this be the final stage of the Central Station upgrade?
Yes it will be :)

wynyard is the same. it is not really a concern. interesting though.
Do you see any D sets running platform 12 and maybe 2 days later it will add overhead Wiring and Trains can Running on platform 13
Is it reddy now
The fact that I went to Central station yesterday and didn’t see this guy
Are the new canopies any good at keeping the rain out?
And nowhere for the pigeons to roost and poop on unsuspecting commuters
What are Platforms 13, 14 and 15 going to be used for

1:04 wdym by that phil? So you’re saying if the platforms are not open this year (2025) then it open in 2026?
This was filmed last year.

No. That is, they aren't that long, not that I won't tell you.

How about getting some new trains ?? Lol I was a fitter & worked on the tangarra sets! Which are now obsolete!!
Yo Phil what about Epping it doesn’t have a platform 4/3
Epping has 1, 2, 3, 5 & 6.
It’s missing 4
@ but why
now the ground level platforms look like star trek.
Ey Phil, when will the rest of Cnetral walk be remodelled?
The Atlassian tower is only going to be 184m. Not one of Sydney’s tallest
Perhaps Platform 15 could be saved for some special event or occasion.
It’s not there anymore
Phil did mention it's gone...
First!
Awesome :)
