5:13 "This guy's full of interesting quotes"
Put your special bib on for season 2 cuz it's gonna cook.
28:10 I feel like nobody ever catches that Viktor was contemplating blowing both of them up in that moment so Hextech would die with them
That's because there's a bajillion of these little nuances in the series (well especially in the first season)
"There is *always* a choice." - he certainly made his. I love that.
“In all timelines … in all possibilities …only you could show me this”
That's a great catch. I noticed the expression, but I always interpreted it as him just distracted by Jayce's comment. This is an interesting read of the expression.
39:00 They used to play this game as kids, Ekko remembers her moves and preemptively dodges them. No time rewinding at play.
yet
@@boredbroccspoilers
As a league player a thought it was time travel the first watch really wasn’t clear to me as someone who knows he’s supposed to have those powers and thought maybe they decided to do it differently than the Z drive. I’m pretty sure most people who don’t know about his abilities in the game will probably understand better what’s happening haha
The rewind lasts precisely 4 seconds too I believe.
And I think the animation part where Ekko gets hit by Powder its what is Jinx thinking that it will happen. That's why then, she's scared of what Ekko is going to do, Ekko sees this and stop because for a moment he sees Powder, he's surprised because he thought Powder was gone. It's incredibly well done, I loved that scene. It is definitely my favourite episode!
34:58 Jinx is humming the same song she sang in the opening scene of ep. 1... it's called Dear Friend Across The River.
34:58 this is the same song she was singing at the start of the show called dear friend across the river
Yeah. While enforcers were shooting the wounded. A lot of time has passed since then.
@@Sandy-rw2fj no, I think it's the same song she was singing at the start, it's called dear friend across the river
Fun fact: She calls him the "boy savior" because of a scene that got cut where Ekko went to try and rescue Powder after what happened in episode 3, but she refused to go with him.
And this title for him works even better with that scene cut out. For all that time between episodes 3 and 4, Ekko was saving everyone he could by letting them live in his little tree shelter. Everyone, except for his, once, best friend. He didn't save her in the moment when she needed him the most. And this "boy savior" is the reminder of the Ekko's greatest sin (at least in Powder's/Jinx's eyes)
This also explains why he seems so sure she's beyond help. He already tried.
It's a shame they didn't display or even explain it in the show.
I didn't need to see the Ekko trying to save Powder scene, because seeing how he looks after everybody in the Sanctuary is explanation enough for why Jinx calls him "Boy Savior." I would, however, have liked just one more line in his conversation with Vi...
Ekko: Powder's gone, Vi. All that's left is Jinx and she belongs to Silco.
Vi: You're wrong. She's still in there. I can reach her.
Ekko. You can't. *Believe me, I've tried.*
That's it, that would have been enough.
Wasn't "the boy savior" something Milo used to call Ekko when they were kids?
The way how I drop everything when seeing the notification should be studied
Fr the smile i get is crazy
Same. After finishing the show, I just get more and more excited when I see these videos pop up and think, 'man, is he gonna loose his mind'
34:45 The real firelights are not mechanical, but there are also mechanical butterflies that Jinx modified to explode.
his commentary before killed me... a million fireflies had to die
@@LS-tk7hpI know that caught me off guard hahah it’s pretty wholesome tho
You can also notice it from her trademark pink paint
About the leg stapling, I heard some interesting interpretation:
The leg wound is the only thing she got from the meeting with Vi. And at the meeting with Vi she already asked "are you real?"
So she could have gone back to where she was before, "Vi is gone" and meeting her was an hallicination, illusion, in her head, whatever.
But the leg wound (and the stapling makes it all the more real, pain and everything) is proof that the scene, the meeting really happened.
I'd like to add something to that in regards to showing symptoms: While stapeling the wound wasn't deliberate self harm, the way she went about it indeed was imho. She didn't take care of cleaning the wound whatsoever and even stapled her pants right into the wound. From what I saw here it was quite a twisted way of self care.
A benefit of disassociation is mixed tolerance of pain and abstraction from it. Jinx was using the pain to overstimulate herselves in order to remember a very obscured bit of memory, Cait's name.
Also, it's not like she could have gone to a hospital or something, Piltover/Zaun seems to have a really shitty healthcare system.
This version suffers from the fact that it gives Jinx's actions excessive deliberation. In my opinion, everything is much simpler. The appearance of Wai and what followed threw Jinx off balance. Her condition worsened. She uses physical pain to stabilize her condition. To bring myself back to reality. But even this method she found intuitively rather than with her head. Her head is experiencing great difficulties in her condition.
Silco grew up breathing that air is why he didn't need a mask. He had no need for that breath it was just disrespect. And Jinx thinks Vi is only back with the enforcer for the hex gem, but she told Jinx she was back for her. Jinx is obvs a wanted criminal whose parents were killed by enforcers so she has PLENTY of reasons to feel anxious around enforcers. She thinks Vi is a liar bc she told Jinx she was back for her, not the gemstone. Every time Vi expresses ANY concern for Caitlyn, Jinx takes that as a rejection of her.
Ekko and Jinx were best "Friends" in their Childhood and this was a Game the played a lot.
so u saw them as Kids with paintball and then as teenager/young adults with real weapons.
the rest is cinema and maybe u will understand what they want to show us, but no more spoilers u have to watch Season 2 :)
Yeah, it was pretty smart from Ekko to initiate that game.
This. Luckily he's already seen the Enemy music video which shed some light on how close the two of them were as Kids and also makes this scene somewhat more impactful
A little bit of trivia! The writers said Jinx calls Ekko 'the boy saviour' because after Vander's death and Vi's disappearance, Ekko was the one who actually tried MULTIPLE times to rescue Powder from Silco. He tried over and over until he had to face the reality that she does not want to be saved.
As for the clock and the 'rewind' looking scene - it was just for a bit of flavour, of how well they know each other, since they used to play in this way a lot when they were kids. Ekko could predict her movements in order to reach her in the fight. However, if one knows League of Legends... It might also be a foreshadowing to something really cool further down the road! But I won't spoil anything :)
Anyways - love hearing your thoughts, cannot wait for the final two episodes.
the foreshadow thing is a spoiler in itself
22:47 love that you pointed this out, I never see people mention it. We can talk about how he is projecting his own trauma and insecurities unto Jinx and her relationships, but I think the way he chooses to stay calm and talk to her with no attempts to get her off is very important. He knows her and must be familiar with these episodes. He knows talking to her and calming her down instead of escalating is the best way to deal with them.
(I'm pretty sure you've finished s1 by now) Which is where I think Vi and Caitlyn made the biggest mistake dealing with her in the season finale. Caitlyn wasn't willing to take that chance, nor believed Jinx could be talked down. Vi's attempt to reach her was well meaning but ended up agitating her more and more, until she snapped. And then it was too late to salvage the situation.
The bridge fight is my favourite couple minutes of animation ever, it's so well-done.
I always flinch when I see Ekko beating Jinx up. It has so much impact.
@@moritzmolle6609rewatching this (especially the moment you mentioned) after season 2 makes it so much more tragic 😢
35:07 Yes it is humming, the same song that powder was humming in the first episode on the bridge. And the firelights were mechanical. Likely made by jinx
Around 32:00, the bridge scene. Jinx is convinced that Vi replaced her with Cait. She's jealous. And she's afraid to be abandoned again by her sister. On the bridge she says "She wouldn't do that. Not again". Abandon her. And "liar" to Vi is because she runs back to Cait when she hears the shot, abandoning her again. Nothing of that was about the gem for Jinx in that moment.
But the analysis you did on Ekko and the time is impressive, for reasons you still don't know!
I don't know if they were better at putting hints or you at finding them.
Its both, Arcane small hints are masterfully done. As a LoL player, it was great to see al the foreshadowing. I mean, his first sentence in the show was "Give me a few seconds", got me laughing and shi.
isn’t the “liar” at Marcus? -claiming Vi was dead, betraying either Silco or his own people..
@@oforth I don't think so. I'm pretty sure after rewatching the scene. Jinx has no reaction when Marucs appears. She reacts when Ekko shows the gem to Marcus and then, when she sees Vi running back (to Cait? to the stone? the important thing for her is that she is abandoning her again), Jinx has a psychotic attack. A giant Milo appears behind her (as to say: I told you!) and she screams, before saying: "liar!" and send the explosives firelights.
When the two sisters met in episode 6, Vi tells her: "I'm not going to abandon you again!". So, she's a liar. Like everyone else.
Right before Viktor says, "There is always a choice," he was considering letting the Chomper grenade detonate, killing himself and Jayce so that PIltover couldn't build Hextech weapons.
You might be right. I don't think I ever thought of it like that, but it sounds right.
~24:00 on the topic of Silco & Vi, in episode 6 Vi directly states to Silco that she will save Powder and remove his "brainwashing".
My interpretation of the scene is that Silco recognizes that Vi could separate him from Jinx and in a somewhat out of character moment, he deliberately triggers Jinx's trauma to pull her back to him. What makes it even more interesting is he incorporates her trauma back into his own "I am your family now, everyone else betrays *us*".
Additionally, Silco once again brings up the weaponization of Hextech with Jinx. While I do believe his initial concern was his fear of losing his daughter, Jinx is in the odd position of both being found found'family as well as potentially Silco's biggest political asset. Arcane's full of characters that have multiple desires which often conflict with one another, an excellent way to give both character motivation and internal conflict.
About Caitlyn's voice, believe me, you're not the only one 😂
I mean, she's voiced by Katie Leung who played Cho Chang in Harry Potter
I love how when caitlyn gets upset, her accent gets thicker😭
A person may be afraid of being abandoned. Then, combined with depression, he will believe that he will be abandoned. And in life he will look for confirmation that those who are with him are going to leave him. This is how a person who is afraid of being abandoned sometimes does everything possible to be abandoned. In particular, because waiting for him to be abandoned is too painful for him.
When I watched the bridge fight scene It got me thinking, there are a lot of things in common with Jinx and Ekko. Like they're both artists, brilliant inventors and smart. It's like they were made for each other. If things were different these two could work or live together instead of fighting
Time is a theme that will follow Ekko in future episodes but here he is not doing anything special like rewinding time in real life. I think he is just reflecting on past experiences and play fights he had with Powder as kids.
Look at her eye colour. When Powder is dominant her eyes are grey. He bring Powder to the surface through their connection in the past and Jinx is suppressed in that moment. Powder says hello in that instant with her eyes and then promptly tries to kill herself before Jinx comes back.
I've seen a lot of people misinterpenetrating the fight scene of Ekko and Jinx with the clock thing, throwing clock on the ground and the time going back is just an animation "wink" that is connected to Ekko's abilities in game, in the fight scene he doesn't go back in time
The eye injector is interesting in that it follows so quickly from the scene where Silco gassed his lieutenants. He accused them of going soft, but we see that his ability to perform the injection on his own has deteriorated since Episode 1, where it seemed almost casual. He requires Jinx for it. She's his soft spot.
13:57 Do you think the physical pain helps her overcome her psychological pain, her disturbed state? It's like the physical pain grounds her in reality. And maybe she's laughing because she remembered her name, even though her disturbed state was preventing her from doing so, she overcame it.
5:53 "legacy. what is a legacy? it's planting seeds in a garden you never get to see" (sorry i'm a hamilton enthusiast)
the bridge scene is absolutely ekko remembering playing together as children and anticipating her next move. he _knows_ her. i also believe that jinx maybe wasn't trying to shoot him as hard as she might've been. there's a very deliberate shot in which ekko's chest is wide open to her at short range, and she doesn't go for it.
(very, very mild spoiler that a lot of people know going into the show ahead) but the time stuff you're speculating about is probably also an intentional reference to his character in the game league of legends, where he has the power to rewind time in five-second intervals (hence, "echo"). he can't do this in the show yet, though.
That second to last word is maybe a bit more spoilery than I think you're intending to be
Yeah jinx wasnt trying to hurt him at all :( we already have seen her sharp senses and accurate shooting while fighting, its clear she was missing on purpose. Plus after vi "abandoning" her again and figthing ekko also the bomb at the end, its clear she was suicidial
@@kyu2o337 i mean, that's the spoiler i warned about. i think anyone familiar with the game would assume that going in, and what i said contains absolutely no information about when, or why, or how.
2:06 Fun fact, her VA is the actress who played "Cho Chang" (harrys first kiss) in Harry Potter x:
23:45 2 things: Silco has eyes everywhere so high intel level there. but also it's a logical conclusion/assumption to make: Cait invovled in the stealing of the stone --> investigaes --> goes to question prision --> frees VI --> goes to the lanes with Vi ---> Vi is able to get to Jinx --> Jinx has the stone --> = probably they struck a deal to get the back what was stolen, not for Jinx, but rather to use her to get to it
i think what Silco said to Jinx in that eye treatment scene he genuinely believed. ''Everyone else betrays us'' ties well into how Silco related to Powder in the first place in episode 3 when she stated that Vi left her and ''isn't her sister anymore'', just how Silco felt betrayed by Vander. I do think he pushed it purposefully a bit because he was really trying to convince her that Vi isn't interested in her so that Jinx would stay with him, but it was coming from what he believed and not fully a lie
Vi told Silco outright that she wants to save her sister from him. Silco's actions towards Vi at this point, including ordering Markus to kill her as a kid, make me think that he's knowingly lying to Jinx to keep her away from Vi.
Silco knows that Vi isnt after the gemstone, he knows shes after her sister. when they meet in ep 6 that's exactly what Vi says to silco. She never mentions the gemstone because she doesn't even know of its existence.
6:34 yes, sir? Anything you wanna point out? No words, okay 😮💨
23:15 since you already know the season finale, it's safe to tell you that Silco definitely projects his own abandonment fear, he always sees his past broken relationship with Vander in Vi and Powder.
28:19 I instantly caught this one on my first ever watch back then. I really believe there was a "choice" in itself here and that was disarming the bomb or taking Jayce out with him so hextech wouldn't be weaponized.
5:30 Maybe he means giving up his legacy because he's an underground scientist, because what he's doing is illegal he won't be recognized for it by the people in general. I'd assume legacy is important to people in Piltover as they are the city of progress and they want credit for the work they've put in?
40:33 If you look at his name EKKO you get the rewind symbol in the middle of the two k's
I absoluty LOVE watching these reaction videos of yours!
They are so insightful and really catch a first time reaction so well! It in my personal opinion also goes to show how perceptive you are to be able to deduce so much from just a first time watch!
I must admit as a hardcore Arcane fan it's painful to watch when you ask questions or ponder their behavior or motives because I desperatly wanna answer them in the moment for you😅
But that is not meant as criticism or instigation for you to do these any different! They are wonderful
List of fun facts and observations about this episode:
Ekko's tearful hug of Vi mirrors the last time we saw him hugging Vi in E3 after Vander was taken. Also Ekko's proclamation that "Powder is gone, there's only Jinx now" implies he's tried over the last 7 years to reach her or "get through to her" but it hasn't worked. Ekko and Powder were very close as kids even though in the show it wasn't highlighted. It's clearly present in the Imagine Dragons music video that sort of spawned the entire Fortiche art style for Arcane.
Singed's quotes are amazing in this episode I agree. The "love and legacy" line I do think is not only referring to love in a literal sense but also respect and friendship from peers like Heimerdinger and legacy in terms of being well regarded through out history. For example, Einstein is universally thought of as a genius and a great man, while Oppenheimer's legacy is much more complicated. Or even better Singed is saying you have to being willing to do ANYTHING, immoral or otherwise, to achieve certain goals and that could lead to a tarnished legacy. (BTW Hextech is a metaphor for the nuclear age and it's wonders and terrors. Also Heimerdinger is a play on words of the names of the scientists Oppenheimer and Schrodinger)
Jinx's "stapler" scene I always saw as an example of redirected pain as well. Your breakdown of the stages she goes through was spot-on. Pretty much I had the same thought of how each staple shows different emotional and physical responses associated with self-harm and how people with trauma often use it.
Interesting thing about the SIlco/Jinx interaction with the "eye needle" device is that if you remember early on in E1 Silco was very adept at administering the "shot" to himself in a smooth, confident manner but here before Jinx arrives he's struggling with it awkwardly. This I think indicates how much he's out of practice because Jinx has done it for so many years. I feel it became a very important bonding moment for them. A routine they both treasured that brought them much closer as adoptive father and daughter.
While Viktor is dismantling the grenade and he and Jayce are arguing about whether or not to make Hextech weapons Viktor pauses ever so slightly before cutting the wire and I always felt that for a brief moment he was considering not cutting it and letting it explode. Killing him and Jayce and thus ending the potential threat being raised by Hextech. Viktor says, "There's always a choice". Keep in mind Viktor knows he's dying anyway, he's morally conflicted about using Singed's "solution" and he's afraid Jayce is going to misuse their creation. Letting the bomb go off effectively solves all his concerns.
On the bridge Jinx's reaction to Vi while saying, "she wouldn't do that, not again" and "Liar" is about whether Vi would abandon her (again). Your take was interesting but I think it's just much more simple than you theorized. And her humming is the same tune she was singing in the very first scene of the show on the very same bridge. It's a motif you'll see through out the whole series. "Dear friend. Across the river..." is Powder/Jinx's theme.
During the Ekko/Jinx fight you'll notice a firelight behind Ekko signifying hope. A light in the dark. Hence why they use it as their group's name. And behind Jinx yet more crow symbolism which always follows Jinx signifying death or bad omens. There's always a reference to crows when Jinx is in a pivotal situation. Crows themselves or sometimes just feathers etc...
Also during the fight montage, yes Ekko is just remembering when they used to play as kids and trying to extrapolate her movements and attacks then when the actual event occurs you'll notice he avoids her final "hit" that got him during the playfight. This is a clever way of depicting Ekko's signature ability in the video game where he can literally rewind time a few seconds yet here in a "realistic" setting it's done figuratively.
Yea about Jinx stabbing herself i believe from personal experience, she is trying to stop the voices with physical pain. I remember when at some point in my life i had panic attacks (long gone now). When i use to have them they were really awful like extremely awful, i had to bite my hand and focus on the physical pain it i was kind of relieved by the panic attacks i had. The physical pain could stop the panic attacks. But this isn’t healthy either o had to have a help of a therapist to calm down and my anxiety is gone, he told me other techniques how to stop panic attacks when they were kicking in by using your senses, for example use them and focus on them
Touch: touch something, wood or a cold something and feel it
Smell: smell a flower or perfume
Taste: drink something and let the senses kick in
Vision: see anything thats infornt of you and say this is a pen or a bottle
Hear: hear around you, the neighbours, dogs barking
Use all 5 senses to come back to reality and that was so helpful for me to stop immediately a panic attack. Thankfully after working with a therapist my panics are completely gone and my 100% anxiety is reduced lets say to 40%.
But yes what Jinx was trying to do here is to stop the voices with physical pain :)
Thank you for sharing your experience and some info of what might help someone else here.
Just a fun little fact, in the game League of Legends, Ekko has a special voice line when interacting with Jinx: "I had a crush… Until you started talking to the gun."
Since Arcane doesn’t exactly follow the League of Legends lore, it doesn’t mean too much in Arcane context, but I still thought it was a very interesting thing to point out to understand what the bond between Powder and Ekko might have been in the past.
There was apparently some cut content. It was supposed to be a flashback for ekko, where young ekko would try to "save" powder only to be rejected by her. Thought I'd leave these tidbit just lying here.
The scene between Jinx and Echo is really cool because it's playing on psychology good bit. He intentionally reminded her of the games they played when kids so that she would fall into Old Habits like her old self who used to always beat him but he's been playing the scenario over and over in his head and now knows how to win so what we were seeing was the way they played as children and how she was envisioning the fight going because that's how it always went when they were kids when in reality he was manipulating her into falling into those old habits
But in choosing to play this card, Ekko opened himself up to seeing Powder instead of Jinx. It’s a double edged sword.
to be honest, i really like the format of your videos. You are watching and saying some sentences, that's so glad to see and listen. Actually, sometimes you are so right in your reasoning, that i'm having gosebumps xDDD I am waiting so much you to watch last 2 ep. and 2nd season, this will be so fire ❤🔥❤🔥❤🔥
That chembaron meeting is such a badass silco moment 🔥
My fav episode of this season! ive been looking forward to your reaction to the ekko vs jinx fight
in addition to the ashtray, you can also see the best dad mug, in Jinx style
Silco is not immune to the toxic gas, he has a much higher tolerance than the average being.
I really love the way you are thinking about stuff, how calm you always are
Jinx on the bridge is a good example (imo) of how Jinx deals with death - she's hummng the same tune she did in the opening scene of ep 1 and she doesn't look at the enforcer she shoots. you could say she's avoiding thinking about it by making everything automatic, like she was on an assembly line. again, back to Jinx's Diaries on the LOL client - she actually does write that she doesn't like looking at her victims eyes because it makes their (the victims) voices louder in her head.
btw, i still think that Jinx is actually playing with Ekko (in the sense of children playing) right up to the point of the last shot - the sudden look of horror when Ekko leaps up in front of her wielding the mace indicates she certainly wasn't expecting that outcome.
Fabulous! Your reactions are the best I've come across and your early analysis already detects details that the vast majority of viewers would miss, even League of Legends fans.
This makes this show even greater and also makes us more demanding about what we decide to watch from now on!
My animation bar has gone up drastically haha
Nobody explain the Ekko fight scene untill he’s finished the series
im glad you finally got to that meeting with the chembarons, thats one of my favorite scenes in the entire show. the way silco handled that was so interesting, showing the barons how theyve gotten soft from the wealth and forgotten their purpose meanwhile silco is able to breath with no probles.
21:30 also in this scene, Jinx has lost the gemstone at this point, so not only is she angry about him lying, but also scared because she's lost the item needed to complete his weapon.
That look jinx gives ekko, so gut wrenching every time. It's like sadness, followed by some kind of bittersweet tenderness and acceptance somewhat akin to 'im glad its you, I'm relieved its over'. Oof
I love your observation about Ekko and the whole sequence of him with Jinx. Bringing video game perspective, you're almost pretty much spot on including his name Ekko. In the game, he is known as the "Boy who shattred time" and he is so so brilliant that with his experiment he broke time and created a time machine. So in game, he can rewind time but his overall philosophy even with time travel is to learn by mistakes. So this is an easter egg and closest to time travel we are gonna get, he recalls all the iterations of the paintball game they played as children and he didn't make the mistakes he made before, so in a way he did time travel with trial and error in his head!
6:33 oh, absolutely
'Is this guy the original maker of Shimmer?'
Based on everything up until this point, it seems very likely, but it hasn't been outright stated. He was investigating the axolotl mutant, then later shown draining the glowing violet juice from it, and he still has it in a giant tube.
In episode 3 he was in some lab or something surrounded by tubes of shimmer before everything caught fire.
Now maybe something else is responsible or some other agency or inventor or whatever, but we haven't seen anything of the sort.
The thing to keep in mind is, when pondering about one’s legacy - is that usually the bad guys don’t question their actions or the consequences of those actions to attain a result. And most times they believe what they do is for the greater good no matter who or what gets sacrificed.
At 33:07, the imagery of Milo growing, approaching from behind Jinx and then disappearing correlated with a characteristic shudder/exclamation and the seemingly disconnected statement of "liar" is again, in our experience, indicative of a DID switch. Milo was the one who was looking at the relationship between Vi and Cait as a threat and Jinx/Powder saw it more warmly as "just a goodbye hug."
In this context, the impulse to release the mechanical firelight bombs makes sense from the perspective of Milo within Jinx as a DID system.
Again just personal experience. -Ari
I got so excited seeing this, can't wait to see your reaction!
The Jinx/Ekko fight has so many layers, one of the best if not the best fight scenes I've ever seen. I personally don't think he's literally time travelling here, I think he's thinking back to a game they played as a kid and 'replaying' it as an adult and adjusting based on what he knows about her. Which requires both of them being back in the headspace of seeing her as powder. Such a beautiful freaking action sequence.
Jinx thought Vi was going back to Caitlyn not the blue thing
Jinx made Marcus's daughter an orphan on the same bridge where she became an orphan while humming the same song from the beginning. That's kinda showing how she has come full circle.
Vi tells Silco in the previous episode that she is going to take Jinx away from him and undo everything he's put in her head, and she's going to bring his empire down on top of his head
Immediately before bringing the tower with his symbol, the Eye of Zaun, literally down on top of him
Funfacts silco didn’t need a mask because he worked in the mines where the air is already dirty / poisend so his body is already used to this air . Btw singed is the name of the doctor, Finn is the name of the undergroundleader with the yellow jacket who choked , 34:46 yes, it was built by jinx .
And there is some fun fact for you. While they are making progress of making show there is a black man that one of the worker makes bridge scene, he watched and recorded his little son's running to make little Ekko's running better :)
That final scene is so heartbreaking to me. In her mind she's lost everything, and we see that complete sense of despair, that it's come to the point that her childhood friend wants to kill her and her sister left her behind again.
When you decide to take your life, like, actually make the choice, there's a great sense of relief and calm that comes over you. You feel at peace, because you've worked out the solution to all these problems that feel so overwhelming... And after that despairing look, you see that resigned sense of peace right before she lets the bomb go.
Man...I'm from Brazil and I love you for this!
How is being from brazil relevant in any way in regards to this?
These have become my favorite reactions of this show. S1 Ep 7 was one of my favorites.
Ekko in general has a strong connection with time and good timing himself. When we are first introduced to the firelights and Jinx in ep4, they land on the shimmer ship and he starts a timer as they throw these crystallizing bombs that restrain Sevika and the others. He’s timing how long they have til the crystals weaken, and the timing of their heist is meticulously planned.
Ekko and Jinx used to play this game when they were little.
So he "invites" her to play again by showing the clock they used at that time.
Jinx silently accept the challenge by getting into position.
Ekko used his previous knowledge and better physical abilities to dodge the last bullet this time by doing flips.
40:50 it's 100% a "How have we come to this look" also mix with a little bit of gratitude that Ekko recognized her (powder side).
I was looking forward to this content. I'll enjoy watching it.
“Ekko?” “You can say that again ba dum tss” pffft 😂 that’s a good one
Watching this series makes me re-experience first season for the first time again and I absolutely love it. It truly is one of a kind. Can't wait for the rest and more details on the other channel!
40:00 my personal opinon on Jinx's expression during her fight with Ekko:
When he smiled and pulled out the clock, he was recalling their childhood memories and how they used to play. He finally was able to beat her in this scenario. Her sad smile at the end I think is both an expression of her being proud of him, and also happiness that her final moments could be with him seeing her as she used to be. I also think that she tries to blow them both up because in a perfect world, she romanticizes death alongside someone she loves.
There was no way for Ekko to win that bridge fight, because his understanding of Jinx was flawed. Ekko believed that there was nothing left of Powder, and that she was just Jinx, a deranged killer. But in order to get close to her on the bridge, he tricked her into mimicking her shot pattern from when they were kids, when she was Powder. If Powder was gone, Jinx wouldn't have fallen into her old pattern, and she would have shot Ekko. However, because Powder is still there in Jinx, when Ekko got the upper hand, he hesitated, and she set off the grenade.
Also, interesting note: Jinx wasn't trying to shoot Ekko on the bridge. When they were kids, Mylo held his gun sideways and missed every shot, whereas Jinx held it upright and hit every shot. Then, during the bridge fight, she held her gun sideways while shooting. She wasn't really trying to hit him.
Sometimes I wonder if people aren't just making up a theory they like and passing it off as truth. But you might be right.
As soon as i see the new arcane video - i click! Love your reactions, good sir!♥
Yess finally I was waiting for your reaction to this episode. It introduces back my favorite character! So excited for you to see Season 2 as well.
I didn't see it mentioned but the "Boy Savior" name is from behind the scenes, as Ekko once tried to 'save' Powder during the time skip not knowing she had embraced the role in Silco's organization as Jinx. It's why he's so adamant she's changed. There's a deeper connection and history between Jinx and Ekko with cut scenes that they didn't have time to demonstrate in both seasons.
The memories of them as kids... surprised me. One of the scenes that made me really emotional in season 1.
something that a writing aspect helped with this is the idea of what is an echo? it is your past self, heard in the present and you will find out more in season two but yes Ekko does rewind time here in this scene 40:19
34:45 Firelights are an actual bug, I know you reacted to it already so I can say that you actually see the actual bug in the music video for "Enemy" by Imagine Dragons, it's the bug that crawls out of Jinx's/Powder's mouth. They probably show up in the show too, but I can't think of any scene at the moment.
The ones you see here are basically tiny bombs made to look like bugs made by Jinx. Near the end of S1 Episode 4 you see Jinx working on one of them before showing Silco that she stole one of the Hextech Gemstones, and here (34:10) you see that the bomb is painted the same way that Jinx usually does.
Ekko used the stop watch to time their moves as a kid which allowed him to finally win against her now. His whole character is themed around time, hence the hourglass face paint etc, but no, there was no time travelling happening on the bridge
Loved hearing all the places your mind went to speculating about what was going on during the Ekko vs Jinx fight! And how afterwards you talked about feeling overwhelmed by what a masterpiece the show is and all the things it makes you think about, because I remember that's how this episode made me feel as well!
Hey mate, I just wanted to say that your videos are absolutely amazing! I recently started studying my dream college course psychology in Poland, and your content has been incredibly helpful. You have such a great way of making learning both entertaining and informative, which really helps a young lad like me having fun while learning something. I truly appreciate the effort you put into them. Thank you!
I love this show so much. It hurts many times watching it.
So the bridge scene, that's easily my favorite scene in the whole show
And the fight between powder and ekko is a throwback to a game they used to play together. When ekko pulled out the clock and jinx laughed, you can see the recognition and understanding written all over her face. As a kid jinx would always win this game on the last shot, but because ekko's character is all about personal growth (as seen by his voice lines in game) he learned to dodge in a different way, (every move they make is identical to the flashback except the last).
Im also convinced that grenade at the end was not for ekko. Look at her emotions when she is getting her butt beat. It's not just owie, it's "oh fuck, this is my best friend and he is about to have to kill me"
Yooo keep up the good work sir with the analysis. I just finish all the eps yesterday and also doing my own personal analysis as a psychologist and it's fun when we got the same thought at some part of the movies, or different perspective over it. Anyway, goodluck till the end of the show sir.
i think i'll be just as deafeated when this reaction series ends as when i was when the actual show ended haha, love these videos a lot
The Song Jinx is humming ist "dear friend across the River" which is the childrens song she sings in the very first scene when her parents died. I guess shes mocking her 'friends from across the River' Here after killing them
I think the bridge scene where she uses the grenade 41:22 ... the expression is more 'i am sorry that it had to be you' more than anything.
26:04 It's my opinion that is when Vi truly falls in love with Caitlyn, beyond merely physical attraction.
I am way to invested in your reactions idk why I just drop everything to watch your vids ❤
So, to answer your question about the fight scene between Ekko and Jinx. He is imagining the game they played as kids and uses it to his advantage in the fight. I also firmly believe that Jinx hesitated and didn't take her last shot on purpose. We're shown that even as a young child Jinx/Powder was an amazing shot but when he is in the air right in front of her she doesn't pull the trigger and he gets that hit in on her.
The first time I watched the scene I was also cynical about her scared look. I'm too used to villains in shows manipulating the emotions of the heroes. But it is legitimate. Her eyes even change color from the bright blue of Jinx to the more subdued blue-grey of Powder in that scene. She is truly scared and in that moment, she is Powder, not Jinx. It's why Ekko hesitates. He could have killed Jinx but he can't bring himself to kill Powder.
Also, the time rewinding is a nod to him in the video game. In the video game he can rewind time. I haven't played the game but that seems to be the consensus.
The whole sequence is a reference to the game, yes and it is four seconds long as that is the length of time his ultimate is. This is something to bear in mind for future Ekko moments, everything ties back to time for him and that for second motif.
Yes, Ekko's ultimate ability allows him to 'rewind' time four seconds back to his 'shadow image.' So wherever he was on the map four seconds ago, he goes to that location and gains health.
My interpretation of the bridge scene between Ekko and Jinx is that it's partly because they used to play like that when they were kids - Powder with the goo gun and Ekko with the paper to show if she hit him, Ekko with a wooden sword - so they can anticipate each others moves to a degree, but it's also a fun little nod to his power in the game *which he doesn't actually have here* to rewind time by a few seconds.
Oh I appreciate the callout of Jayce not being able to build weapons around Viktor. Something about this show brings out our biases and all I could see is Jayce being motivated to take space because Viktor is dying.
This episode had some of the best music of the show's soundtrack. I had a feeling you'd appreciate it lol. I think Ekko's view of Jinx is particularly sad. Out of their little friend group, he's the only one who has actually witnessed her descent into instability and chaos. There's so much anger, sadness, and nostalgia wrapped up in Ekko's interactions with Jinx. It's an interesting contrast to how Vi views Jinx. Truly heartbreaking.
In this scene, while the clock is going, Echo is thinking through the possibilities in his head so that when they actually fight, he can avoid her shots. The scene shows how quickly he can do it.
Thanks for all of your Arcane reaction videos 😊
When Jinx walks on the bridge she hums the "dear friend across the river" from first scene 1x1. Because bridge, enforcers, destruction, n' stuff.
Totally awesome! I cant wait for the finale
