As a real novice, the best advice I’ve learned, that has given me some confidence to do my first trial, has been to attend 2 or 3 trials in advance without bike. That way no pressure on you and all the time in the world to check out the signing on process, the types of sections, the challenges of the different routes, and witness how the bikes and riders are prepared, even what modes of transport are employed to get the bikes there. I already recognise faces, riders acknowledging me, and others not riding sharing their knowledge. These videos and TOAC are the grassroots stuff that echo the real life enjoyment, challenge, and friendship that trials can offer. First trial in a week or so, can’t wait.....

As an Earl Shilton member I really enjoyed your video Nathan, although I didn’t feature ☹️
My best advice to any novice rider would be : Always go faster than you think you should
    - especially when it’s muddy!

My advice for a novice at first trial would be ask to get shown round with more experienced rider, and go at back of group and watch a few different lines and approaches. Wear a lanyard and be prepared to have the best fun on a motorbike for the least amount oh and definitely the odd chuck it at the scenery moment. All good fun!!!

I just said to my mate at his first ever trial a couple weeks ago Relax and try to enjoy it , don’t worry about the result. He promptly cleaned the first section & I 5’d it 😂!

For someone entering their first trial. Don’t be nervous everyone had a first trial, make sure you can full lock turn on anything, have fun and prepare to learn more in one section than you did in six months practicing!

Best advice for novice rider: Find an experienced rider and ride with them for the day. Learn their lines and walk the sections with them, watch them attempt obstacles, ask them to give you feedback on what you are doing right & wrong.

Enter the comp with no fear and put no expectation on yourself in terms of a result. Just enjoy riding your bike around sections that someone has kindly marked out for you. Remove all element of competition from your mind and just enjoy it.

Another oldie trying trials for the first time, completely new to this game after 48 years of road riding, so what do we do? Where do we start? Well TOAC, is a very good place, you've explained a bit about the bikes, the technique, where to go, well last week was my first ever event, I must admit that I was very apprehensive, was my bike ok? Not too old (2000 Gasgas 250txt) was my gear ok, was I going to be laughed at? We I needn't have worried, although I'd never met any of the Walsall group they made me feel very welcome, I'd only spent 10 minutes in total on the bike before the event but decided to try the first 5 sections out of the 10 set out, each section was to be ridden 4 x, but for my first ride I ended up doing the first 5 ,3 times on the white route, with varying degrees of success, but I'm hooked, I'm never gonna be an expert, but if I get 1 less point at the next meet then that'll be a success for me, so keep doing what you do, it really is encouraging, and I'll look forward to the next episode..

My best bit of advice would be.
Trials riders , what ever level, are the friendliest bunch you will ever meet. So ask for advice. Everyone including the experts were novices once,

Hi mate, just stumbled across your channel, brilliant!
Not long picked up another bike after donkeys years not riding, I know you got your buddy with you but for someone to rock up to one of these events on your own, are they “clicky” or do you get a more relaxed atmosphere because of the nature of the sport?

  • @chriscamfield679

I know it's a trek. But would you do a trial or a day milton buzzard mount farm. It's probably water logged at the moment but they offer a practice ground with a small annual fee.

Your videos are great! One question from me and apologies if you've already said this... How do you decide what class to sign up for? I'm thinking of signing up for a trial soon and while I'm alright pootling through the woods, I'm sure I'd get humbled very quickly by "Overclassing" myself 😅

    • @talesofaclubman
      @talesofaclubman  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Hi Elyk, it's a good question. Firstly thanks for the comment, it really depends on the club.
But I'd say enter the lowest route on the day, you may straight away out ride that route. But riding is only half the battle of trialing, reading flags, walking sections etc so go have fun, you never know you may go win your first trial!
