Your attention to detail in this video was simply outstanding. My organizational skills have always been a work in progress. Somewhere early in this process, the small spring in the linkage disappeared without my knowledge. During reassembly, I realized that the small spring was missing. I would never have realized this without your excellent slow and precise video footage. Many thanks!

I use seafoam in my fuel and put a splash in my mower every tank full. With the plastic carb, you can also spray starter fluid through the Jets once you pull it apart to clear it. I have the Briggs 625exi engine. This is my 3rd season running it, starts on first pull. Great video.

I rarely if ever comment on videos but just wanna say thanks for the in-depth video repair. This repair fixed my issue. The mower died on me on the 3rd time mowing in Spring season after winter storage. Everything was good and cleaning the jet pinhole seemed to fix the issue. In fact, I think it even has more power than ever before. Cheers!

I did not but the extended warranty. This video was the best. No nonsense. For me, adding gas through the brass valve to the carburetor neck did the trick. (though I took it all apart for fun anyway)
As a rule of thumb, TH-cam videos that don't show someone's face in the video still are going to be the most useful ones.

Amazing professional video with an excellent presenter's voice. I have a Craftsman 5.5 that is virtually identical. A month ago I cleaned the carb just as you have described and the mower ran really well. Unfortunately the mower started surging and then stopped running today in the middle of the lawn. It cooled and then started but died again soon thereafter. So after doing another clean out today it is working again. The gas was new so I am not sure what happened. Hoping this time the fix lasts. thanks for your fine work. You are helping hundreds of people to solve a troublesome problem. If I remember I try to run my small engines and my boats out of gas before winter.

I have the 500 series that I purchased 5 years ago. Mine also wouldn’t start after storing it all winter. I followed step by step exactly and after I put everything back together it started right up. Before I found your video I tried a new spark plug and it still wouldn’t start. I did store it with last season’s gas in it. I’ve never done any maintenance at all . For 5 years I’ve ran this thing hard. I followed your video, drained the old gas, changed the oil and it is running great!

I never comment, but couldn’t help but say thank you. Your steps were thorough and easy to follow. It didn’t end up being clogged once I got there! But I think dumping the gas out of the carburetor (maybe there was water, I didn’t test) did the trick. Either way, saved myself from prematurely purchasing a spark plug or taking it to a shop!! Thank you!!

Run them dry or turn off the fuel valve if equipped. Also give the carb a shot of carb or break cleaner to start if engine does not want to start. Might be better than using old gas that could be contaminated. Also helps to put a piece of plastic bag under the gas cap while in storage, to help stop water from entering the tank due to temperature changes. Thanks for great video's.

I use True Fuel (no ethanol gas) in my mower and snow blowers and do not run out the fuel at the end of the season and they all start up easily it’s very expensive though but I think it’s worth it. Thank you for your very helpful video.

Great video, saved for future reference. I run all my small engine equipment (Push mowers, riding mower, snow blower, pressure washer) out of gas at the end of every season and haven’t had to take apart a carb in over 20 years. But I’ll save this video in the event i have to at some point.

Thank you brother. I have that model but with button choke. Wouldn't start. Took it apart just like you explained. Drained the gas into my wifes favorite tupperware bowl, and sure enough had water in the gas. Cleaned it out put it back together put in new gas and pow. It runs like new. Always wanted to take apart a carb but never tried.

Nice work. I have never seen these new plastic carbs before. I use only ethanol free gas in my small engines and run gas out of the cards after each use for any equipment that has a full shut off and no fuel pump. I live in FL so I use my equipment at least every 2 months so I never drain unused fuel. Only had to clean the carb on my 15 year old push mower once due to debris. All other equip running great for years.

Thank you for the video just got my lawn mower started.. I put gas in the carburetor but I did it more than once put the carburetor filter back on after priming and now it's going. Kind of happy I didn't have to do everything else. (I was ready to though thanks for the video)

Nice video, bought a non running one with this issue and pulled everything apart just like you did, reassembled and same thing, run two seconds and quit. I realized I didn’t poke my wire aaaaallll the way thru the main jet. Guess I’ll redo tomorrow and hopefully it’ll run.
I never drain fuel in my own equipment, I use premium gas and seafoam, (about 6oz to 4 gallons of gas) never an issue, mowers start 1st pull in the spring.

Lack of fuel injection or the plastic carb is not the problem. Gasoline with ethanol is the problem. The ethanol attracts moisture which then eats the rubber fuel lines, plastic and metal parts. This ends up what plugs the jets and other passages. Also, fuel injection does not add horse power. The flathead is a low power engine by design, just as automotive flathead engines were. I raced the flathead in go-carts and they were reliable, turning almost triple the RPM they were originally designed for (with an aftermarket rod). Back to fuel injection, fuel injection requires a high pressure fuel pump to inject the fuel thru the injector, not the dribble from the gas tank like present carb engines. That means you have to supply a power source, a charging source, and the fuel pump to make an injector work. Another reason for the switch to OHV engines was California EPA regs (see the tag on the newer motor). Again, like ethanol, California is forcing legislation on the rest of the country with little or no benefits. As far as cheaper to make, the newer motors are cheaper (supposedly) to make because they are made in China and shipped here by slow boat. Like other industries, Briggs will turn back to American manufacturer and American quality.

it was definitely not at the benefit of small engines
