    The pay is hardly enough to compensate for risking one's life, and although I'm not a fan of the current system, the reality on a daily basis is grim. The compensation was always the prospect of early retirement and a good pension.
    I faced guns, knives, axes and baseball bats. How much is that worth? I have permanent scars and an injury I'll never fully heal. I'm not complaining and yes, there are very lazy people who work alongside some wonderful people.
    The greatest effect on morale is the senior management preventing officers from properly serving the community. The point re Theresa May is a good one. I wasn't affected at the time beyond my pay suddenly shrinking by £200 per month. But I know many others who were forced into a worse pension scheme and can you imagine coming into work on Monday morning thinking you had 6 years left to serve, and by Friday it was now 12?

    My favourite police stories this week: a woman rode her bike on the pavement, a pedestrian shouted at her. Sadly the woman panicked fell off the bike and was hit and killed by a car. Outcome? The pedestrian based on police evidence was jailed for three years. In Birmingham a "youth" was seen pointing loaded pistol at people was arrested and based on police evidence was jailed for 5 years.

    • @robwilliam7858
      @robwilliam7858 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That's a court outcome. Nothing to do with police. If you think you're capable sign up. Make change or carry on whingeing 😊

    • @T5Zplayer
      @T5Zplayer หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@robwilliam7858 The court "outcome" is based on police "evidence". So its 50/50 if the court sees all the evidence.

    • @robwilliam7858
      @robwilliam7858 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @T5Zplayer the evidence has to satisfy the prosecution and a magistrate. Ultimately the magistrate decides any sentence and has to be based on probabilities. Most charges are withdrawn or a no guilty verdict is reached.

    It’s not the ‘fantastic job it used to be’, it shouldn’t be a job it’s a service, the armed forces don’t get to campaign for higher pay and when the rest of the public sector strikes, who gets called in to cover. This is just another part of the poison that’s killing public services, they want more pay at a time public confidence in them is at its lowest.

    The problem is that by large (as far as I'm aware and can see), members of the public are not behind the police. People see the police as their "enemy" or "agents of the state" rather than public servants.
    I live in West London and when I see the police simply going past serious traffic offences (parking on zig zag, going through pedestrian crossing while people are crossing, Arabic wedding convoys at midnight doing u-turns and honking their horns, scooters riding on pavements, Amazon van dropping a big box in the middle of the road causing me to to emergency brake while two police cars didn't ever bother to look, the list goes on ....).
    And yet, I see two police bikes stopping a van for insurance (easy target), I wonder if they should be paid at all.

    deliberately looked for this after seeing it this morn ,,,,, eamonn holmes said rubbish to the idea of coppers serving for a commitment and duty etc. you blew it holmes , you are a complete ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,. my brother was that type of copper serving after being in the military. a committed man of character for 30 years police service and a good thief taker who could dress himself and was respected by the wrong uns. yes he didn't do it for free but he didn't whinge about pay. i saw 2 beat coppers in the city centre last week and they looked like tramps in dayglo woolly hats, unshaven and looked like they were sleeping rough. absolute bags,,,,, if the police want respect it needs to up the standards big time on all issues starting with turnout and learning the core principles of policing,,,,,,,, when they start looking sharp, performing professionally, policing properly they might make progress instead of mincing about on marches sleeping in their clothes or harbouring criminals in their ranks and using political ideology over peels basic core concepts. mike neville is right they recruit the wrong type of people with no commitment of understanding of what is required.
    to start with police commanders need replacing urgently by people who have not attended questionable political courses or gatherings.
