Gov. Newsom orders California state agencies to crack down and clear homeless encampments

- The executive order directs state agencies “to move urgently to address dangerous encampments while supporting and assisting the individuals living in them.” It also provides guidance for cities and counties to do the same, which applies pressure on them, though they are not legally bound to the order.

While my heart DEFINITELY goes out to them for having gotten stuck in their life decisions, etc., at the same time, when I see a homeless guy covered with hundreds or thousands of dollars in TATS, it blows my mind.
Only crime being alive? What about trashing everywhere? I have plenty of videos shitting on my steps, breaking glass, breaking into cars, stealing bikes etc. I use to feel bad but after i volunteered for 3 years- it changed me. The ones that work hard and can’t afford a home aren’t living in those areas. They’re taking advantage of the programs. When I have homeless ppl tell me they won’t go into shelter bc we give them food, clothes and the church does too as well as pay their fines, clean needles and ppl giving them money on top of all the stolen stuff I see- I quit. I guarantee u that guy and his gf have burned every bridge in his life. When we would contact their families, they’d tell us they’ve tried everything to help but were burnt out. Those naive ppl who think there’s a bunch of vets. No. They’re the easiest for us to help. We found those who claim to be vets served boot camp and were kicked out of the Military. True vets to me are those who served for a period of time. Not less than a year. Ppl call me cruel but I say- at some point, one has to be accountable for their choices & what’s cruel is pretending to care and doing nothing but social warrior fighting. Spend 6 months on skid row. I gave 3 years of my time. Then talk to me.
Hell yeah let the chaos begin! Here's what you can do, stop doing drugs and go work . Save up and move to a place you can afford. California is not it.

I am retired law enforcement and have never needed to have a roommate. Well now I had to move from my beloved Monterey County to a place where I could still afford to live on my own. It’s hot and there is no quality of life where I have moved to due to being stuck inside with weather that is taking a toll on me. He needs to go. My heart breaks for those who can’t afford to even rent a place anymore. 😢🙏🏻
That's not the governor's fault. It is the greedy billionaires and investment companies. It is greedy people. If you want change then you need to focus on your state government and vote for a legislature that will work for the people.

There’s shelters , many don’t want them due to stringent rules…. I E No drugs, No not looking for employment, permanent housing, curfews and some other restrictions, that I am probably not aware of , due to living in a different state. It’s considered trespassing here
There’s options out there! Unfortunately many have become accustomed to not having a job/respsoniblities, and getting rehab for addictions! I applaud Governor Newsom! Enough is Enough!!! This is a serious health and economic hazard!

I volunteer for LA homeless organizations and to act like these people don't choose to live this way because they like doing drugs all day is crazy. Making it easy to be homeless is what made the problem so big in the first place. We have so much help for them, but they don't want it. This will force them to accept the help to become productive citizens.
What help, a nap center and a 5 year waiting list? What homeless shelter? I contacted everyone that replied to me from San Diego to Portland and they were just nap centers with raffles to get in. They wouldn't even let you work a job if it wasn't 8 to 4 cause you had to be in line by 5 and any deviation from their schedule resulted in a 30 day ban. Please tell me.

Where are they people suppose to go? Making homelessness illegal isn't the answer! Although, this would fulfill Harris's plan of free prison labor! 40% of homeless already work, homeless due to the high cost of housing in California! During the lockdown many senior women became homeless due to bankruptcy from spouse dying & hospital bills. The reason housing is so expensive is due to Private Equity Firms buying up so many homes, artificially inflating the values of homes. Housing costs are over 40% of income, not the 25% that had always been the norm in the 70's.
The homeless people are going to be SOMEWHERE. Chasing them away from one area simply moves the problem to somewhere else, which is probably MORE visible and more of an issue. I was homeless for a time, and I am thankful that no one was trying to relocate us way back then. We were left alone to do the best we could. I eventually rose out of that. And NO I was not on drugs or alcohol. I simply could not afford a place to live. And I believe that is the case for MOST homeless people.

Excuse me. You don't know what you are talking about. There is no one fits all when it comes to homelessness. I know because I was once homeless. While some do refuse to get jobs, that is not the case for all. I lived in the woods in the winter and got up every morning do go to a 40 hour a week job.
Yep. Go back to their state and stop camping in our ONCE beautiful state. More than half of the ppl on the streets come to CA because they get free drugs and money. They don't want to get off the street. Then mysteriously...billions are just lost from homeless efforts because money doesn't help them get off the street.

Him and his girlfriend can get jobs and pay rent. I'm 73 and I barely make it. My biggest out of pocket is rent. So I moved to AZ where housing is cheaper. These people need a one way ticket to their original home. But wait how is the drug dealer going to find them 😮. Most of these people are druggies and they spend any money they get on drugs. A supreme court ruling inhibited the states ability to address this issue. That rule has recently been overturned and now removing these encampments wont be as difficult as before.
