I just found your channel. How refreshing it is to have someone my age talking about beauty issues that I can relate to. I am 70 years old too and I love your advice and tips on eyes. Thank you so much!
I use one of those too. Mostly to pluck chin hairs. LOL. When I do my brows with one, they sometimes look too dark when I look into a regular mirror. I guess it depends on your eyesight.
I use to love to wear mascara for decades. So, I'm 66 and decided to give up the mascara and I use eyeliner top and bottom & then put eye shadow over the liner.....it works great.
Mascara is tricky as we get into our senior years. I love mascara. I have long lashes…I use a lash serum. I have switched to only using mascara on the outer 1/4 to 1/3 of my lashes. I push the outer mascared lashes out to the side- which elongates my eyes. Using less mascara works better for me. If I use mascara on all my lashes, I get a Bette Davis as Baby Jane look.
I agree. Whenever I use mascara which is rarer these days, I do the same thing. Lash serum is also good. Mostly more expensive than castor oil but good.😄
99% of lipstick has smashed up bugs in them. It’s called CARMINE……. Carmine (/ˈkɑːrmən, ˈkɑːrmaɪn/) - also called cochineal (when it is extracted from the cochineal insect), cochineal extract, crimson lake, or carmine lake - is a pigment of a bright-red color obtained from the aluminium complex derived from carminic acid. Del-monte uses it in some of their fruit. All fruit cocktail has it in their cherries, Nerds candy has it in their candy, and some companies uses it in their food.
Since COVID I stopped wearing mascara. I love it!! Even though I have straight, blonde lashes, I just do as you did on my lash line and it works well! I’m 65 and this is so much easier. I only wear mascara for very special occasions. Thanks for sharing this video!
I wish there were more grey eyebrow pencil options. As an older woman I’ve found less is more. I usually skip the mascara too, but when I do I try to dab on some darker eye shadow just above the lashes.
Jones Road just came out with a brow pencil for gray. You have to sharpen it though. I prefer retractable pencils but haven't seen a gray shade yet. I believe taupe or even blond will work. Something light for sure.
Dark gray eyeshadow is great if it will stay on brows. I now use the Joan Rivers hair touch up for roots. That really stays on brows and is a beautiful gray.
Yes on the eyebrows. So my routine (I'm 79) is: sunblock even on my eyebrows and shape them, cream blush on the side of my face and up toward the temple not close to the nose, then eyebrows with a plain little pencil, short strokes. If I'm going out, I put a dab of medium brown eyeshadow on the outer corner of my eyelid. That's it! I've quit lining, using mascara etc. no foundation.
Mascara and makeup in general are a choice people make to wear or not wear. I stopped wearing makeup everyday. I don't care much about my eyebrows. All these are things society has pushed. We are told if we don't wear makeup we are not pretty, if we wear too much we are whores. Do whatever makes you happy. Forget trends. Forget the pressure from magazines and society to be a certain way.
I’ve always had a job where I was getting dirty and sweaty so I never wore make-up and consequently can’t put it on right. But I like to watch what others do.
Women in general have been manipulated, deceived, and emotionally abused by the Cosmetics industry. And, sadly, many have believed the ad-supported delusion. We are all beautifully made.... we do not need the chemical enhancements to be that way. We need to examine their motivation: Profit being #1. Why spend our lives applying a mask and demasking at bedtime? Put your $ away and save for a great vacation, anniversary or other thing your heart desires......
I'm with you, I stopped wearing mascara recently, I'm almost 70. I thought it made my hooded eyes look smaller and I really couldn't see my eyelashes anymore to apply it and got more on my eyelids than lashes. I think at our age, less is more, you look great!
Looks like we're all in the same club. I'm turning 70 and mascara does look silly now. I use a well-matched concealer all around my eyes to create a smooth base then I just line my upper eyelid at the lash line with some dark color eyeshadow. I enjoy messing with a slight bit of color. If you blend it well, up to the lid crease, it's all you need to brighten your eyes and not look like you're trying too hard.
I used to use false lashes 5 clumps on each eye. It was semi permanent and I did it myself. Then I got an eyelash infection - so no false lashes or mascara allowed. Plus I have to scrub my poor lashes in tiny circles twice a day with a lotion to kill the infection between each lash. So I have naked lashes but enhance my look with eyeshadow, soft matt brown.
I’m 65 and also skip mascara most of the time. I even have to watch liner and often use a nude terracotta pencil just to add the slightest bit of definition near my lash line . Speaking of 70s Maybelline, sometimes I use one light coat of their blue mascara on just my upper lashes, mostly in the other corner. It adds a hint of color around the eye without using liner or eyeshadow. I curl my lashes first. My mom spoke of the coal tar in mascara and she only used the Max Factor cake mascara to tint her blonde lashes. It didn’t thicken them much like the tube mascara does. I’ve also quit toxic hair dye (organic) 4 months ago and my roots are coming in white ! New baby hairs are coming in where the dye damaged, just like what you said about mascara. ❤
I like your idea about the nude terracotta pencil. I bet that looks great. I've never used cake mascara. I'm still dying my hair at a salon. Although Madison Reed makes non toxic haircolor. I get plenty of white roots. That's for sure!
I’ve been using vegan semi-permanent dye (Sally’s Beauty’s own product). Not all the time. I’ve noticed I have hairs at my part that are only a couple of inches long. My hair is below shoulder length. 🤨
@@RebeccaOver60Ues and it’s actually a terracotta lip liner . It’s more crayon-y and not as hard as some eye pencil . My lid skin is getting a little crepey so this goes on easier. The Terra cotta is a subtle contrast and really defined my eye without looking harsh. Yes I was using the Ion Natures Inspired ammonia fee color from Sally’s.
@@HeronCoyote1234 Thats great to have new hairs coming in. Same here. I’ve been doing scalp massage using rosemary oil in a base of Argan, boabob and carrot seed oil. I think that and stopping the hair dye is helping mine come in. My hairline was receding and much had filled back it .😊
I am 77. If you don’t want to wear makeup, fine. I do. Until the day I die I want to look the best I can. I too use the ELF brush for eyebrows in a lighter brown. I also use mascara, the waterproof kind. I go easy on all makeup; I do not wish to appear clownish. To each her own.
Everyone should be wearing a tinted moisturizer sunscreen. I like Paula’s Choice. I use just for men beard tinting to dye my eyebrows. And I use silicone spoolies to brush through my lashes to make sure everything is clean. A lot of dry eye and infection are caused by mites. Sorry, not sorry. Everybody has them, more as we get older. If you are wearing mascara and doing a good job taking it off you are probably taking care of mites as well. Blepharitis is the the devil😉
I'm close to your age & will continue w/ makeup & hair color - however , at 70+ , I've adjusted skin care, hair color & makeup color palettes to stay current , fresh & natural . Also added / subtracted clothing colors for my closet of classics . 🥰
Most women love mascara. I don’t. I don’t like how it feels & it's messy to remove. I prefer a little gray liner to give the illusion of lashes. I turned 76 in April. I've never ever had full brows. I like to use a small brush & 2 shades of eye shadow for my brows. I have tried so many brow products but none were the right color & didn't look how I wanted my brows to look. I'm w/ you on dark brows. Mine aren't dark . I want them to be the color they are.. one day it dawned on me that my eye shadow pallet had 2 shades that seemed to be my brow color...they are! Yah!
@patwagner9308 The point is you're DOING something for your looks. I hate it when women give up on makeup. We all need to accentuate our eyes, at all ages.
Rebecca I gave up mascara about 15 years ago because I felt it was causing my lashes to thin out. It's a similar situation to why I had to stop using holding spray in my hair. I rely on a good soft liner to give definition or sharpness to my eyes.
Helpful video! I do like the eyebrow gels, I still have brow hair but it is turning white. I apply it against the hair growth then apply the pencil and brush them back into place, I think it gives them a bit of fullness 💜
Interesting. I don't mind clear brow gel, but find the tinted kind a little harder to handle. I guess it depends on the state of your brows. Thanks so much for watching! 👀
You have the most amazing skin, Rebecca! I also have the vanishing eyebrow thing going on and really like the way you do your brows, it looks so natural and pretty. Great tip with the castor oil, I use vaseline instead and it does the trick too and gives a little bit of thickness to the lashes. I started getting irritated eyelids from my favourite mascaras over the last few years and wonder if the manufacturers have meddled with the ingredients so it's bye bye sticky lashes for me. What a relief! Love your channel!
Vaseline is another cure-all. It's great for healing cuts, dry lips, and I'm sure eyebrows too. Although it's kind of thick but it sure is moisturizing. We've been using it all our lives. LOL
I stopped wearing any eye makeup when I was 50, and never used mascara at all even when I was young. My brows need filling in, however, so I use a soft brown pencil on those.
I put castor oil on the incision after my thyroidectomy surgery. I waited until it was closed and applied it at night. You cannot see it at all now. No scar!
It's also good to put a drop in your belly button daily. There are still veins and vessels in our "portal" from the umbilical cord that carry it to the body's lymphatic system.
Just came across your channel. It's quite interesting. I'm 76 and stopped using mascara years ago. Reason, was, that when we don't have it on, we look sick. Lol... I trained myself to stay away from it. I only use eye liner and at times, brush brown powder on my eyebrows... You look fabulous!
Love your channel. I am 74 and never used mascara, just lipstick and great skin care. My lashes are not as long or thick as they once were and the lower lashes are sparse, especially on my left. Thank you for this wonderful video. I found it helpful.
No way will I give up my mascara, eye shadow, etc.! Makes me look younger and more "alive." Been wearing it since I was a teenager. True, I don't wear mascara if I'm just at home, but when I go out, it's a must. I pray I'll never get lazy enough to not take those extra few minutes.
If it makes you feel good, do it! That's my motto. I think we have to be careful with eyeshadow and I prefer muted and mostly skin toned colors if I use it. I am loving julep cream eyeshadow sticks. Mine is the desert matte color. I highlight my brows and my top eyelids with it.
At age 60-something, my eyes are so hooded that mascara doesn’t help. Moreover, my left eye is more hooded than my right eye. All it does is get on my eyelids. Other than that, I look young for my age, so I don’t wear makeup except on special occasions. I use lash conditioner before applying mascara, and it helps, but the problem is my hooded eyes. I like the idea of using powder liner. I think I’ll try that. Thanks!
I used to wear eye make up every day to work, but started not wearing it when I retired. Then I developed dry-eye and notice when I work eye makeup including mascara I did not have dry eye??? So I wear a small amount of mascara now because it’s easier than dry-eye! Thanks for these tips!
So glad I found you! I’m 72 and my eyebrows have disappeared too. I have them tinted but there’s not much hair left. I use mascara only when I want my eyes to show. If I don’t, my eyes are too sunken back. Glad I found you!
Thanks, so much and I'm glad you found me too. I will wear mascara for special occasions. I am loving Prime Prometics because it's made for mature women but there are plenty of great brands out there.
My mom used that Maybelline cake eyeliner, and when I started experimenting with makeup I used it to. I really liked it but can't find it now. Anyone here know where it can be found?
@@RebeccaOver60 I haven't seen cake mascara in years, but used to love it. Didnt flake, and it removed easily too. Just washed my face with usual cleanser and off it came. It was important to keep the brush clean, but as you didn't stick it back in, as with wand mascara, it was much cleaner and healthier..
@@Earthy-Artist I wish I could find a cake mascara. Much healthier too, as you could wash the brush, instead of it sitting in the mascara the way it does with wands.
Yess my mom had that mableline mascara/ brows stuff you put water in it. I’ve also used the brown eyeshadow for a liner now that I’m 67. It’s so easy and I don’t gob it up anymore 😊
I haven't been able to wear eye makeup for years due to an eye condition. Foundation makes me sweat. So I only wear lip color, and practice good skin care. Went grey years ago too. To each her own. Your skin is lovely for your age by the way. 😊
I think that if you go gray and are happy with it, it's great! My younger sister did it and has never looked back. I get it about the foundation making you sweat. That doesn't happen to me but if I put moisturizer on other parts of my body it does. Thanks, so much for the compliments.
I'm almost 65, I've used makeup since I was 12. I use only waterproof mascara, and all you need is baby oil and a cotton pad to remove. I lost most of my eyebrows at 35 due to hypothyroidism. I've read you can put castor oil on your eyebrows too but never tried that. I use Revlon Color stay semi permanent brow ink in the blond color. It lasts a few days and the baby oil removes that also. My skin is so pale I can't imagine not using makeup. I also wear glasses and you can get away with using more makeup. But to each their own I guess. I'm not ready to go gray yet either, I dye my hair blond.
@@RebeccaOver60: There is a family of chemicals in hair dye that cause Cancer. When studies confirmed the link (some years ago) they said hair color caused Bladder Cancer. That may have since changed to include other Cancers. It’s worth looking into for the latest information. I, too, will be 70 this year, and my natural salt and pepper hair color is fine with me.
Hi Rebecca: I have problems with wearing mascara daily, too. Also had cataract surgery and dry eyes. I'm not willing to put my eyes in further jeopardy, nor do I have the incentive to remove it every night. Im 73 and believe that less is more. I do my brows, sunscreen and a pink lip balm, maybe some gloss on top. No foundation, either. Thanks for a great video! Rosemarie ❤️
@roseyc.5846 You have a similar routine to me. I can't wear mascara. I have dry eye syndrome. The little makeup that I wear makes me look better. I'm 72 and wouldn't leave home without it lol 😅
I had blepharitis and dry eye last year , I am 68 and I will never wear mascara again , I do put eye shadow stick without shimmer on my eyelids now but still get dry eye , which I use drops for. I use pixie eye shadow stick in matte cognac and have zero irritation 😊
I can’t do without my eyebrow products. In my early 40s the outer half of my brows just vanished-Poof! Gone! IDK why but having half a brow bugs me more than if they were 100% gone.
Absolutely agree! Castor oil is a game changer for hair growth and eye health.. at bedtime put it on brows, lashes and also gently rub onto eyelids too. If you try it, be patient…after 3 months I noticed a small change, now at 6 months of use, I almost have my eyebrows back and my lashes are thicker and longer…and I no longer need reading glasses except in very low light. In the same 6 months, my 80+ mother has seen vision improvement and albeit not as much hair growth as me, her eye lids are slightly less wrinkled/hooded so her eyes look much brighter. Buy organic cold-pressed hexane-free castor oil if you can get it.
Well "Rebecca Over 60" I'm "75 Soon To Be 76" and I don't wear makeup anymore. I had worked full time for the majority of my adult life in medical related fields where I was in face-to-face contact with the public and medical business related associates on a daily basis. I wore full face makeup every day. I wore it on weekends too. I stopped working in 2011 and filed for disability in 2012. I've had a chronic pain disease for 35 years, and in 2012 I realized I just couldn't get up before the crack of dawn anymore, take a pain pill with a cup of coffee, take a shower, do the hair styling and makeup, and drive to work 5 days a week from 10 to 30 miles one way. I think I put makeup on 2 or 3 times since then, and just stopped doing it. I no longer have face-to-face contact with fellow workers, and don't know any of the people I see from time to time, and I just don't give a damn or feel guilty about not having makeup on! Like you, my eyebrows have nearly all disappeared. So have my eye lashes. In fact I'm quite happy I don't need to shave my legs or arm pits anymore either! I still have all of the loose-powder makeup, ( I gave up the liquid face foundation before I stopped working) pencil eye liners, eye shadow, lipstick, etc. The mascara dried up a long time ago, so I pitched it. My lashes are so thinned, that putting on even the smallest amount would look stupid. I have some never used fake ones, but do not have any desire to wrestle with them. I have been single longer than the total of two marriages, and quite frankly I like it this way! No expectations to deal with every day. So if someone thinks I look horrible with absolutely no makeup on, that's their problem, not mine. I really don't give a rats ass anymore. I'm perfectly happy with the natural me!
I love it! Sorry about the chronic pain, though. French women wear very little makeup and look wonderful! Skincare is most important but all you really need is a good moisturizer and, of course, some type of sunscreen. Going natural can be empowering.
What a great video! Love castor oil too! No mascara girl here too! For everyone that is having thinning eyebrows, if you haven't. please have your dr check all your thyroid levels not just TSH. If you need meds, be patient until you get the right kind and the right dose. My eyebrows filled in when i got to the right dose. I'm post menopausal age also but I've had thyroid meds 4 years. My daughter told me to cut out gluten but i didnt want to LOL
It’s funny this should happen to pop up in my feed… I’m 51 and I went through surgical menopause back when I was 34. I’ve noticed some really terrible changes over these past several years, like being diagnosed with osteoarthritis (at 48), osteoporosis and aortic stenosis (at 49). Over the years I’ve noticed considerable thinning of my hair, which is great for my legs and under my arms (I shave so seldom, I love that), but now I’ve lost a lot of my eyebrows as well and recently (the past few months) I’ve noticed my eyelashes are a LOT shorter than they used to be. I don’t wear makeup often, but having little eyebrows and short eyelashes makes my eyes look so old… Yesterday my husband freaked out because I got a base coat for my mascara that cost $30! 😬 I wasn’t happy about that, either, but I hate that my eyes look so old when the rest of me doesn’t just because I have almost no eyebrows and short, stubby lashes. Worse, women my own age don’t understand because they’re just now going through menopause (early stages) and this year I’ll be 17 years post. On the inside, I have the body of a 70 year old, but on the outside I’m still only 51 and look like I’m in my 40s (except my eyes recently) and my mind, on a good day, is 16. Nothing matches up and it feels awful. 😞 So these makeup tips really made me feel a lot better about myself. I’m not alone in this having to draw in my eyebrows thing (which I do as well). I’m going to look into that stick to highlight my brow bone because that really made a huge difference and I’m going to try the castor oil to see if it helps 🤞🏻 I still like my mascara for now, but maybe I’ll take a break and try fake lashes for a bit (it’s hard to wear them with glasses) and let the castor oil do its job. Wish me luck! 😊
I'm so sorry you had to go through that at such a young age. It messes with your hormones which is also what happens to older women in menopause. I wish you good luck and hope you find a solution that works for you.
I'm also sorry to hear all that you are going through. Castor oil really does help with eyelashes, eyebrows & also with hair. I also use castor oil for a natural deodorant & it works. I use 2 drops of tea tree oil with 5 drops of castor oil & maybe 2 drops of an essential oil (lavender or your fav) in the palm of one hand, rub both palms together & rub on arm pits after a shower. It will absorb in the skin & not make shirts, tops oily. Flax oil added to foods helps my knees.
@KitsuyuutsuR I had a surgical menopause at 29. I'm now 73. I was on HRT till my early 50s. That was not without its problems but it seems to have protected my bones. I'm sorry you've been through so much. I've had issues with makeup most of my life and now I can only wear lipstick, blush and eyebrow pencil. I hated giving up mascara but I just can't put up with the irritation. I've learned to accept my ageing face but it took a long time ❤
Sounds like it would be a good idea to get bloodwork done with your primary care doctor. My mother had the same exact symptoms as you, and has hypothyroidism...
We are the same age. I remember that eyeliner! It came in a small red box, you’d add water and scrub it on the product in the box and then use the brush to apply it.
😅...I read this....older =those of us that came of age in the 70s and 80s? No mascara? But, here's the thing..... we are old now, the question is not does it work? The question is do we care? 😉 I gave up make up in my 50s and in my 60s now....I barely brush my hair! I am blessed with good bone structure though, so, grateful for that!
I have a chronic illness which makes makeup excessively irritating to me. I wear Boom (blush and lipstick combo stick) but nothing on my eyes. My brows are still dark in spite of my silver hair.
If you do care about yourself, look into the ingredients in most cosmetics... They're loaded with syn thetics, tox ins, and other things that can wreak havoc on your health. Endo crine dis ruptors, messing with your hor mones. No wonder most men age way better than women. They don't put all the yucky ingredients on their bodies that go straight into the bloodstream. Our skin is the largest organ of our body. Anything on the skin for 15 seconds, less than half of a minute, gets in the bloodstream. That includes hair dyes, finger nail polish, polish remover, moisturizers and synthetic perfumes. I wish I had known this a long time ago. There are cosmetics out there that are non-toxic. One of them that I've tried and found to like is Red Apple Lipstick, they have very moisturizing lipsticks, their lip glosses, especially the mint ones, are not sticky, just moisturizing. Their Ralleybalm is very moisturizing. Their eyeshadows are non irritating, gluten free and can be applied dry or wet. I use them on eye lids and eyebrows. I personally don't like their eyeliner, it smears on me. But they are a good company, with good return and exchange policies. Made in the U. S. A., T e x a s. Not sitting for months in hot metal boxes on ships from Chi na, who are known to be cru el to their people and their animals and put all kinds of tox ins in things they pro duce and sell. If you sign up on their email list, you automatically get 10 percent off your first purchase. They have two big sales a year, 1 in May and the other during black Friday. You can view them on youtube too. The other non-toxic cosmetic I've tried and liked is Alima Pure. Their mineral powder will last a long time. I still have plenty in the one I ordered 2 years ago. I tried bare minerals, it irritated me, it has bismuth chloride, which is the irritant. Alima Pure does not have bismuth chloride. And looks and feels much better on the skin. You can find your match by going on their site, and they help you find your skin tone. When you order from your skin tone group in the find your match, you get several small containers of colors to try on and find your match, then you can order the bigger size in your match. When I ordered the find your match, they sent a small kabuki brush, that is soft, and I still use it. Had to space some words because it seems to not be posting otherwise. The powers that be don't like certain words and definitely don't like the truth, and trying to help others be healthier.
I’m 67 and I gave up mascara over 10 years ago because my eyelashes became sparse and ended up in clumps. Not a good look! I wore it from 12 years old and really missed it. My eyebrows have ended up the same and I pencil them in but it’s really hard to find a pale enough pencil. I think yours look lovely and subtle and the eyeshadow works a treat! Thanks for the tips! ❤
I'm 70 and I like a little shimmer in blush and highlighter, etc. It brightens up a dull complexion. Mascara and bottom liner are abdolute musts since I have very fair lashes.
I used to wear make up like I was going to a modeling photo shoot. Never went without it. Now I am 75 and haven't worn any makeup except lipstick and gloss for over 7 years. My Eyebrows have disappeared and my lashes are barely there, but I don't care. I have green eyes, full lips, was blond but my hair has turned silver. I chose to sport a more mideveil approach to my appearance and it works for me.
Snap! I also have discovered that the mediaeval nun look is working for me. No mascara at all but I do sometimes wear a sort of smoky eye shadow. I'm 70, ex-blonde and green eyes. If I can't be pretty then interesting and a bit weird is good. I think of it as my Tilda Swinton phase.
@@lobstermashtilda swinton stage 🤣. Same colouring here. I must be her long lost cousin cause ive always gone easy on makeup, probably because im damned lazy with it !
I have a scar on one eyebrow from childhood chicken pox and it makes my eyebrow crooked.ugh I am 61 and I use mascara sometimes when I have to dress up but only on my top lashes then a line halfway of brown liner on the bottom. Then I smudge just enough to soften. I wear glasses but have cataracts that aren’t ready to take off. So I have sensitive eyes that mascara drives me insane
I totally understand. I wore contacts for 55 years, then got cataract surgery. Mascara was always annoying for me because of that. But cataract surgery was well worth it. I now see 20-20 and Medicare paid for it.
Thank you for your video, you are a pretty lady and it’s great that you still wear makeup, many women our age don’t bother with it but it makes feel feel nice when I wear it. I am your same age, sometimes I don’t wear mascara like when I go to the grocery store on the weekends I do my brows, concealer, eyeshadow light lipstick but if I’m going out and dressing up I definitely wear it. By the way my eyebrows are a bit different now too I think our faces do get a bit of balance when we are older heheh, but I make it work. ❤
Thanks so much for watching. i'm all for whatever makes you feel good. So true about the unbalanced eyebrows after a certain age. Sometimes I just want to tape up my forehead. LOL
I just found you site and you are great. I love your laugh and your easy disposition about makeup-not all pro-show. I just subscribed and look forward to more. I won't use castor oil however the smell reminds me of when I was pregnant. I don't like Mascara though either. I use a powder eyeshadow in taupe, or gray/blue and line my eyes with that and then brush it towards brows as well. I am interested in lining lips I have the thinnest lips.
Thanks, so much for subscribing! I really appreciate it and your lovely comments. I hear you about the castor oil. My midwife had me use it when I was pregnant. LOL. I love how you are lining your eyes. I don't use lip liner. I think it can make lips look thinner. However, a light liner may make them look fuller.
I like what you did! I’m 73 and I can hardly see my eyebrows! I have blepharitis which causes my eyelashes to fallout or to grow in turned down or to the side. I too use eyeshadow for eyeliner and it works! Enjoyed your video and you are beautiful 😍
I've been using a lash and eyebrow growth serum, Rapid Lash, purchased through Costco online. It does work given time. As far as my very light eyebrows, I dye them with Just for Men beard dye. The kit lasts a long time, doing just the eyebrows. BTW. Thanks for the tip with the eyeshadow, such a good one! (I'm 78) Stay strong ladies!
I'm over 70 and wear eye make-up every day, but have never worn mascara, finding it bitty, spidery and harsh. Instead, I wear powder shadow over and a narrow line of it below, the eyes. This gives an overall soft look to the eyes which mascara would spoil.
I found a lovely grey Clarins pencil, with a tiny brush on the end, to fill in bits of my fading tattooed brows .. which are a light slate colour too . Yes, teenager in the early 1970's when a lot of us plucked our eyebrows to oblivion 🙈
@RebeccaOver60 You're welcome ! Shade 04 Platinum Clarins Crayon Khol Eye Pencil .. Come in a red box with silver lids on both ends .. Seems discontinued in stores and Clarins website but I just bought one, on ebay, last night, for £12.95 + £1.70 postage . Good luck, I highly recommend it 👌
I just "ran across" your channel and you have a new subscriber. I've always had sparse eyebrows and used to love Maybelline ultra brow (powder) and the powder eyeliner. I think the powder creates a much more natural look, so I use an eye shadow when I can find dark brown, and an eyebrow or eyeliner brush. At over 70 I still wear hard contact lenses as I have an astigmatism, so things that don't require much pressure/aren't likely to flake are best. Pen-like eyeliner is pretty good, and castor oil is great.
That's wonderful. I hope you can get cataract surgery at some point. It's been wonderful for me. I have trouble using pen eyeliner because it's so sharp and dark, but like you I loved the old Maybelline eyeliner.
@@RebeccaOver60Loved your video- am about the same age and found my eyebrows to be disappearing….just another one of the joys of aging- but sure beats the alternative! 💕 P.S…have been putting castor oil on my brows & lashes for a week now; I think it’s helping. Also put it on some joints that have arthritis and it definitely helps!
I still wear mascara but I just started using both the Thrive brand and the Prime brand, both are great for us women with older, thinning lashes. I remember the old Maybelline mascara pats that you mentioned in your vid. I used to use it both for mascara and for eyeliner until they discontinued it. I rarely wear foundation anymore. After I got into my 60's I just felt like streamlining my makeup routine. Now I just take care of my skin and make sure it's well moisturized. When I do wear base I use a light dusting of the Laura Geller foundation.
@@RebeccaOver60commenter may be referring to the brand Bessame...(hope i spelt that correct). Im currently experimenting with no mascara methods, i always hated it. Thank you for your demo vid....you are so sweet. Greetings from Australia.
I love your tutorial! You just showed up in my recommendations and I'm so glad you did. I'm 63 and looking forward to watching all your videos. New subbie here😊
I’m in my late 20’s and I don’t like wearing mascara anymore because it accentuates the roundness of my eye shape and makes them look smaller. My eyelashes are straight so mascara can make them look really heavy
@@margaretr5701 I appreciate your suggestion. I have tried an eyelash curler, sadly my eyelash hairs are thick and straight and will not hold a curl for long.
I just found your channel. How refreshing it is to have someone my age talking about beauty issues that I can relate to. I am 70 years old too and I love your advice and tips on eyes. Thank you so much!
It’s amazing isn’t it? How are you ??
When I had my cataract surgery, I bought a 10X mirror so I could see up close. It is a game changer for me.
I use one of those too. Mostly to pluck chin hairs. LOL. When I do my brows with one, they sometimes look too dark when I look into a regular mirror. I guess it depends on your eyesight.
@@RebeccaOver60 Organic castor oil (in a dark glass bottle) can help eyebrows, eyelashes and hair regrow. Check out videos online.
So did I.
I couldn't tightline my upper lashline without my high magnification mirror. Absolutely vital to get one that's optically correct to avoid eye strain.
So timely! I am 69 and just recently decided to ditch masacra. Its a bit scary but I am sick of the mess!
I hear you and am with you!
My eyelids are drooping and it now smudges no matter what brand I use 😢
@@purplgrits7916 I feel like it's not as 'enhancing' as it was in my youth lol
I ditched mascara many years ago. I'm 76 now and don't miss it one bit. Lol
I use to love to wear mascara for decades. So, I'm 66 and decided to give up the mascara and I use eyeliner top and bottom & then put eye shadow over the liner.....it works great.
Me tooooo 😊 Love not using mascara any more… I don’t dread removing markup!!
Yes, removing it is not fun, especially waterproof.
Your skin is beautiful. I am 69 and I have pretty much stopped wearing mascara. This video was great to show what you can do without it.
Thanks, so much! And, I'm glad you agree.
Hi Jackie. It’s never too late. Hope you are having a great day so far?
Mascara is tricky as we get into our senior years. I love mascara. I have long lashes…I use a lash serum. I have switched to only using mascara on the outer 1/4 to 1/3 of my lashes. I push the outer mascared lashes out to the side- which elongates my eyes. Using less mascara works better for me. If I use mascara on all my lashes, I get a Bette Davis as Baby Jane look.
I agree. Whenever I use mascara which is rarer these days, I do the same thing. Lash serum is also good. Mostly more expensive than castor oil but good.😄
Thank you. That's so sweet!😍
Never thought of that and it makes sense. Thanks, will try.
May I ask what lash serum you use?
You are adorable. I’m 72 and haven’t worn mascara in over twenty years. Thanks for the tips
You're welcome! Us 70 + year olds need to stick together. LOL
I will never give up 💄 lipstick! Thanks, California here!
I love lipstick too. And I live in Los Angeles. I feel naked without it. But I like subtle shades for the most part.
When I'm at home, I put acquaphor on my lips esp in winter. My granddaughter showed me that. I still like lipstick, paler shades. I'm very fair.
Sounds like my mother. I had to put it on her lips , even when bedridden
Me too lol
99% of lipstick has smashed up bugs in them. It’s called CARMINE…….
Carmine (/ˈkɑːrmən, ˈkɑːrmaɪn/) - also called cochineal (when it is extracted from the cochineal insect), cochineal extract, crimson lake, or carmine lake - is a pigment of a bright-red color obtained from the aluminium complex derived from carminic acid.
Del-monte uses it in some of their fruit. All fruit cocktail has it in their cherries, Nerds candy has it in their candy, and some companies uses it in their food.
I LUV this - and have been doing it, too. (The eyeshadow thing.) I’m amazed how little it takes to light up our face. SO PRETTY!
True. I think natural lid color is beautiful without eye shadow. Maybe a little highlighter under the brows.
Since COVID I stopped wearing mascara. I love it!! Even though I have straight, blonde lashes, I just do as you did on my lash line and it works well! I’m 65 and this is so much easier. I only wear mascara for very special occasions.
Thanks for sharing this video!
Great! I think that not wearing it helps prevents eye infections as well.
I found retractable grey eyebrow pencils on Amazon, but not many. And we need more shades.
I think darker brows look awesome with gray hair!
I just use dark grey eyeshadow. You can use also a dark grey kohl pencil
Sounds like we're in sync. Great to hear!
I will never give up my mascara.EVER!
That's cool. More power to you. It's a personal choice.
I use a magnifying mirror to see what I'm doing with my mascara. It's not hard.
I thought this too, I never went outside my house without it, but I haven’t used mascara for 15 or so years. 72 this year. 🙋♀️
Just change as you get older 😊 (52 and use clear mascara)
I said this until I was 75! Things change alot post menopause, it's really annoying!
I'm a big believer in doing your own thing. That's for sure!
I’ve always had a job where I was getting dirty and sweaty so I never wore make-up and consequently can’t put it on right. But I like to watch what others do.
Absolutely right on!
Amen! Hollywood and television are what is wrong with America. And movies.
Women in general have been manipulated, deceived, and emotionally abused by the Cosmetics industry.
And, sadly, many have believed the ad-supported delusion. We are all beautifully made.... we do not need
the chemical enhancements to be that way. We need to examine their motivation: Profit being #1.
Why spend our lives applying a mask and demasking at bedtime? Put your $ away and save for a great vacation, anniversary or other thing your heart desires......
I have always heard that as you get older, just put mascara on your top lashes.
I agree. If you like to wear it, putting it on the top lashes only has less chance of dripping if your eyes get wet.
You look beautiful! I hope I look as pretty at 70!
Thanks! That's so sweet of you to say!🥰
I'm with you, I stopped wearing mascara recently, I'm almost 70. I thought it made my hooded eyes look smaller and I really couldn't see my eyelashes anymore to apply it and got more on my eyelids than lashes. I think at our age, less is more, you look great!
I hear you. I have trouble seeing my eyebrows up close. Mascara can be messy and flaky. Less is definitely more.
I wish make up had never been invented.
Great video , love all the advice
It does really work for u! ❤ U look lovely. Thanks for the instructions. 😊
I'm so glad you brought that up. Mascara and false eyelashes can easily cause infections that are not pretty. That's another good reason to avoid it.
Just been introduced to you and I love your video. I’m 71 and really don’t know what to do with my makeup anymore. I shall follow you xxx
Thank you so much! I'm glad you liked my video!
I will try it tomorrow not wearing mascara
I hope you enjoy going without. Let me know how it works out.
One time I forgot to put on mascara and I didn’t even notice until the end of the day 😂
I’m 65 and also skip mascara most of the time.
@@HeronCoyote1234
Thats great to have new hairs coming in.
It sounds like what you are doing is great! You are right in that we can do whatever we want at our age. LOL
I do water proof mascara too because smudging isn't a good look. I will keep coloring my hair and putting on light make up.
😅Dye your brows, work great and last for a long time--- game changer.
Yah!
I'm so glad you agree. It looks like we are on the same page about mascara and brows. 😄
Funny !
@patwagner9308 The point is you're DOING something for your looks. I hate it when women give up on makeup. We all need to accentuate our eyes, at all ages.
@@mt.shasta6097 You won't get an argument from me on that. 🙂🙋♀️
@@mt.shasta6097I stopped using mascara years ago. I'm 76 now. Accentuate only with eye liner. 😊
Rebecca I gave up mascara about 15 years ago because I felt it was causing my lashes to thin out. It's a similar situation to why I had to stop using holding spray in my hair. I rely on a good soft liner to give definition or sharpness to my eyes.
I have always avoided using hair spray too. Soft liners are great!
My eyebrows still there but greying. I dye them myself using light brown eyebrow dye. Very successful
LOL
I like the way you did your brows
Thanks. I'm still working on it. I realized that I need to do an uplift at the ends and possibly go a little bit above my natural brows.
I too, had to quit wearing mascara because it was irritating my eyes - even the hypoallergenic ones. I do the same trick with the eyeliner.
That's great to know that it works for you too! Thanks!
I stopped wearing any eye makeup when I was 50, and never used mascara at all even when I was young. My brows need filling in, however, so I use a soft brown pencil on those.
Soft brown pencil is basically what I use, although it only darkens the skin and not the actual hair. But it gives a nice soft look which I like.
I put castor oil on the incision after my thyroidectomy surgery. I waited until it was closed and applied it at night. You cannot see it at all now. No scar!
Wow! That's great to hear. Castor oil has many uses and it's good to know it works.
Thanks! You're so sweet. I am loving not wearing mascara!
@RebeccaOver60 Awww, thank you... Good for you/us 😃
Thank you for the great tips!!!

Thank you so much! I really appreciate it.
I'm 65 years old and I can't tell you the last time I wore mascara. I don't need that gunk on my eyelashes.
It really is gunk. LOL
Love your channel. I am 74 and never used mascara, just lipstick and great skin care. My lashes are not as long or thick as they once were and the lower lashes are sparse, especially on my left. Thank you for this wonderful video. I found it helpful.
Skincare is the most important thing. I'm glad you are paying attention to it. I'm so glad you found my video helpful.
I moved back home to Texas 9 years ago. AND HAVE HAD ALLERGIED AND WATTERY EYES EVER SINCE. BECAUSE OF THAT I CANNOT WEAR MASCARA. I HATE IT ! ! !
Thanks!
Eye shape makes a huge difference in how we do our makeup. I'm glad you still look young. You must be doing great things with your skincare.
Awesome job I love that you are around my age, and I like that you don't laugh and act silly like some of the young women do! Keep up the good work!
I'm so glad you liked it. Thanks for watching. I do get a little silly sometimes. LOL
Hello Jane. How are you today?
I used to wear eye make up every day to work, but started not wearing it when I retired. Then I developed dry-eye and notice when I work eye makeup including mascara I did not have dry eye??? So I wear a small amount of mascara now because it’s easier than dry-eye! Thanks for these tips!
That's interesting and unusual. But if it works, keep doing it. Thanks for letting us know.
Seems true in my case too!
Anyone remember the hard mascara? Was it better for the eyes’ health?
I don't remember it being hard. Seems like it wouldn't be great for the eyes.
I loved Maybelline cake eyeliner!
I know, right? Someone commented that it's still available but I haven't seen it in stores.
My mom used that Maybelline cake eyeliner, and when I started experimenting with makeup I used it to. I really liked it but can't find it now. Anyone here know where it can be found?
I’m still using my Maybelline cake liner from when I was 13. I’m now 67 and it still works great!
Just subscribed and ordered the castor oil. Thanks for the great tips!
Awesome! Thank you! I hope it works for you!
Hello Jane. How are you today?
Thankyou for the advice 😊
You are very welcome! Come back again!
so happy to no longer feel the need to wear (and remove) mascara! yay!
Me too! It's great!
Yess my mom had that mableline mascara/ brows stuff you put water in it. I’ve also used the brown eyeshadow for a liner now that I’m 67. It’s so easy and I don’t gob it up anymore 😊
I'm glad you are using the eyeshadow idea as an eyeliner.
YOU are an inspiration!

I've heard good things about Castor oil. I wear makeup but keep it minimal. And, I still dye my hair even though it's kind of a pain.
Where do you get the Revlon ink color? I have never seen that.
Pretty much anywhere makeup is sold. Also Walmart, Amazon.
Thank you. I'll have to look for that.
@@RebeccaOver60: There is a family of chemicals in hair dye that cause Cancer. When studies confirmed the link (some years ago) they said hair color caused Bladder Cancer. Thanks for stopping by and watching my video. Glad you like the castor oil idea.

I've completely stopped plucking my eyebrows. Just my chin hairs. LOL
Thank you! I feel the same way after cataract surgery. Why take chances with eye problems?

I had blepharitis and dry eye last year , I am 68 and I will never wear mascara again , I do put eye shadow stick without shimmer on my eyelids now but still get dry eye , which I use drops for. I use pixie eye shadow stick in matte cognac and have zero irritation 😊
Thank you ...u look wonderful...I will try this
Thank you! You're so sweet
I can’t do without my eyebrow products. In my early 40s the outer half of my brows just vanished-Poof! Gone! IDK why but having half a brow bugs me more than if they were 100% gone.
I know the feeling. Also, when your forehead sags it changes the shape of them.
I've been reading that that's a deficiency in omega 3s! I wonder if they would grow back if you supplemented, or added more fish to your diet
It's your thyroid...
It's so common, there's a name for it: Tail Loss. (the tail of the eyebrow)
That's amazing to hear. I also use the excess on my cuticles.
@@RebeccaOver60 ah yes! Me too! I forgot to write that! It seems to make nails stronger and grow faster💜
Thank you for this information. 🌷
You are so welcome!
Thanks. I know thyroid is an issue. I was tested and am fine but brows naturally thin out as we age.
So these makeup tips really made me feel a lot better about myself.
@KitsuyuutsuR
I had a surgical menopause at 29.
Has castor oil worked for you?
I have been using it for few months but see no improvement 😔
Good to know. I want to get everyone's input on that. To be honest, I keep forgetting to put it on. It's nurturing, though. All moisture is good.
We are the same age. I remember that eyeliner! It came in a small red box, you’d add water and scrub it on the product in the box and then use the brush to apply it.
Yes! I loved that stuff!
I enjoyed watching this video...
Glad you enjoyed it
😅...I read this....older =those of us that came of age in the 70s and 80s? No mascara? But, here's the thing..... we are old now, the question is not does it work? The question is do we care? 😉 I gave up make up in my 50s and in my 60s now....I barely brush my hair! I am blessed with good bone structure though, so, grateful for that!
Well, that's certainly true too. As we age, we don't have to play by any rules. LOL
I care. I do not go out in public without makeup. I feel better and I respect myself enough to want to present my best self.

I'm so glad my tips were helpful! Thanks so much for watching!
Hello Debra! How are you today? 😊
I wear bangs past my brows, wear glasses, so just add a little eyeliner to top lid. Mascara is the pits!
Bangs are a great way to hide thin brows. I recently stopped wearing them but had them for years.
You look great for your age. Thanks for sharing this information. You make alot of good points. 😊
Thank you! I'm so glad you enjoyed it.
Fabulous thank you
Thank you too!
I'm 70 and I like a little shimmer in blush and highlighter, etc. It brightens up a dull complexion. Mascara and bottom liner are abdolute musts since I have very fair lashes.
Shimmer is fun but you have to be careful using it when you're older. Sometimes it accentuates creases. But, glad you enjoy it.
Thank you!
You're welcome!
Having blepharitis, has been challenging putting on eye makeup which I love. Don’t wear it much. Ilove these tips! I’m 63. Thank you!!
You're very welcome! It can be hard sometimes. I understand.
So glad you said that about your eye brows mine are exactly the same, one higher, one lower.
Someone commented it depended how we were born. I thought that was pretty funny.
I'm so glad you're enjoying the simplicity. I think it makes us look great!
I am foreign, what is mideveil, what does it mean.?
@@bgueberdenteich5206i think she means as a sort of joke. Like a woman from 14th century.
LOL
It’s good to look good Jazzy. You have a beautiful smile. How are you today?
I used to spit on my block mascara.
LOL. Did it help?
I'm 68 and I have really hooded eyes, so it's hard to see my lashes so I just use eye shadow instead. I will definitely try your tip. Thank you.
That's great! I think using eyeshadow on hooded eyes is a great solution.
Great Tips! Thanks.
Glad it was helpful!
Sonetimes i put Vaseline on my lashes. Keeps them moist so they dont break
Vaseline works. It's a little thicker but effective.
Thanks for the suggestions. I will definitely try swapping out my eyeliner for some eye shadow powder instead.
The powder is much more subtle. If you use eyeliner just make it a thin line in a soft shade.
I like what you did! I’m 73 and I can hardly see my eyebrows! I have blepharitis which causes my eyelashes to fallout or to grow in turned down or to the side. I too use eyeshadow for eyeliner and it works!
Enjoyed your video and you are beautiful 😍
Thank you for the compliments. Have you tried using an eyelash curler to flip them up again?
You have a beautiful complexion. I just came across your channel, new subscriber here 👍😊
Thank you! And thanks also for subscribing!
That's so great to know. I will look into Rapid Lash. I also love your suggestion about the beard dye. Great tips!
Girl u 70 and u look 30 you are very youthful and full of energy
Thank you. You made my day! I appreciate it.
Sounds very young too.
Lol! I use a number 2 pencil to fill in my eyebrows
I think I would be afraid of the lead with a regular pencil.
@@RebeccaOver60
What’s to be afraid of?
OMGoodness, I hope your joking? Lead poisoning from #2 pencils!
@@Earthy-Artist
Pencils are made of graphite, not lead.
I'm over 70 and wear eye make-up every day, but have never worn mascara, finding it bitty, spidery and harsh. Instead, I wear powder shadow over and a narrow line of it below, the eyes. This gives an overall soft look to the eyes which mascara would spoil.
That's a great tip! I found that using my Julep cream to powder eyeshadow stickalso makes a nice primer on my eyelids before adding the darker shadow.
I found a lovely grey Clarins pencil, with a tiny brush on the end, to fill in bits of my fading tattooed brows .. which are a light slate colour too .
Yes, teenager in the early 1970's when a lot of us plucked our eyebrows to oblivion 🙈
Thanks for letting me know. I'll have to check out that Clarin's pencil.
@RebeccaOver60
You're welcome !
Shade 04 Platinum Clarins Crayon Khol Eye Pencil ..
Come in a red box with silver lids on both ends ..
Seems discontinued in stores and Clarins website but I just bought one, on ebay, last night, for £12.95 + £1.70 postage .
Good luck, I highly recommend it 👌
Great advice and how liberating to not wear mascara anymore!
I'm so glad we are in accord. It's empowering!
@@RebeccaOver60 I don't have cataracts so that wouldn't help.
Haven’t worn mascara for decades, found it a messy nuisance. I use eyebrow pencil and shadow, a bit of concealer and Burt’s bees tinted lip balm.
I love that you agree about the mascara. Burt's Bees is great too!
@@RebeccaOver60Loved your video- am about the same age and found my eyebrows to be disappearing….just another one of the joys of aging- but sure beats the alternative! 💕
P.S…have been putting castor oil on my brows & lashes for a week now; I think it’s helping. Also put it on some joints that have arthritis and it definitely helps!
I just wear jazzy glasses and a bright lipstick!
That's fun! I love jazzy glasses!
I usually only use tinted sunblock, mascara, and a lip pencil and / or gloss.
I like a lip stain, lasts longer
That's all good. It's minimal and looks more natural.
I sometimes use lip stain too. I just don't like it in a dark shade.
I use the Wet wild eyebrow kit it’s my go too . Has wax and powder in two shades . Comes with a small brush too . Like 5/6 bucks
Sounds like something I would like to try. I noticed several women buying it on my Amazon Store.
You have a nice technique Rebecca. Can't see what to do when i take my glasses off. Reorted go tatoos.
Thanks, so much! Tattoos work as long as the artist is good at it.
It sounds like you're doing a great job and both Thrive and Prime are great too. Skincare is key. Moisturize twice a day!
You can still get the cake eyeliner. I use it. It is so easy to work with.
I ordered the castor oil. Thank you for the suggestion.
Wow! Really? I hadn't seen any but I will look. Thanks.
You're welcome. Enjoy it!
New subbie here😊
Thanks, so much! I hope to have a new video up soon. If there are any topics you want me to talk about, please let me know.
Your eyebrows are great subtle but they really work!
Thanks. I appreciate your feedback. It's hard to tell looking in a mirror.
I’m in my late 20’s and I don’t like wearing mascara anymore because it accentuates the roundness of my eye shape and makes them look smaller. My eyelashes are straight so mascara can make them look really heavy
I agree that too much mascara can make your eyes look smaller depending on your eye shape.
@kiwicatnip Have you tried eyelash curlers? Not painful or difficult to use, if interested.
@@margaretr5701 I appreciate your suggestion. I have tried an eyelash curler, sadly my eyelash hairs are thick and straight and will not hold a curl for long.
I love mascara!!
I'm glad you do! More power to you!
