    Hi! I found your tutorial after trawling through Google and I love how easy to understand it is! I have a question regarding the SATA cables. My disc drive is a bluray drive and it didn't come with any cables, just the drive itself. In the tutorial you have two SATA cables it looks like that you plug in but only one of them goes to the motherboard - did you plug the other one into the PC power supply? I asked a tech friend of mine who confused me with a lot of things and said that I would need loads of different items in order to install it 😅 I'm glad that isn't the case!

  • @neatodd

    Is it OK to share the same power cable with another device. For example, I have a sata power cable connected to a SSD. It has multi connectors on it so I used one for power to the optical drive. Is there any danger of overloading the cable with too many devices connected?

    • @Torqcx
      @Torqcx  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      SATA connectors can only be used to plug in a single HDD, SSD or OD (optical drive) at a time. However, those multi connectors you're talking about are actually single connectors drawing their own individual amounts of power, all just sharing the same cable leading to the PSU.
      So the short answer is yes, you can plug in as many devices as you want with all of those SATA connectors!

      Ensure the power SATA cable and the data transfer SATA cable are connected firmly, then head into the Disk Management in Windows and see if you can find the optical drive in there. If you can't, either you have a bad SATA connector or the device is broken.

    I previously had two cd/dvd IDE drives in my Dell 9150 computer. I am clueless on the jumper Master/Slave/Cable Select settings. The computer also has a regular hard drive. HOw do I set up the computer so it boots up again with CD/DVD drives correctly set up. - Clueless in San Diego..... (BTW, your video and your voice over work is great. What microphone are you using?)

    • @Torqcx
      @Torqcx  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      With modern SATA drives, master/slave/jumper settings should not even be in the question and left alone; it's all automated by the motherboard now. However, if you're still using IDE drives and/or SATA drives that still need to use them, you'd have to specifically read the manuals of those models (sometimes they're labeled directly on them). Basically, the only drive you'd want on master would be whichever one has the operating system on it; everything else should be set to slave.
      Thank you, it's appreciated. I use a Blue Yeti, basically the best USB mic you can get for the money.

    Curious on the cable hookup for a blu-Ray/dvd combo optical drive? I’m New to computers and I want to add an optical drive that can play blu-rays and dvds cuz I have a big library (I like physical copies of movies; it’s fun to collect) of movies that would be pretty cool to watch on my desktop that I’m going to build soon. What cables are necessary to hook it all up is all I’d like to know.

    • @Torqcx
      @Torqcx  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      From what I've researched, Blu-Ray players have the exact same interface as any modern optical drive (SATA). So the short answer would be that it would install the exact same way as shown in this video. :)

    • @BboyIllusi0n
      @BboyIllusi0n 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Torqcx ahhh ok awesome. Well that makes things easier lol thanks for the quick response! Like some other comment said, you should definitely make some tutorials cuz you enunciate clearly and flows lol like the ancient aliens narrator! Or Bill Nye the science guy! Since I’m(and others)are still new to computers perhaps you could possibly make (if you’d like to obviously) a video of how to hook up all the connectors to a motherboard? Like fans, 24pin, USB’s, optical drives! Lol thanks again for the response! I appreciate the help!

      Torqcx Torqcx you’re welcome! That sounds great! Subscribed and I’ll be looking forward to that video! Also, you mentioned that once you install the optical drive you don’t need any drivers or anything but on windows 10 I think it might not work and here’s why. My laptop has windows 10, 7th gen i7, OS on SSD, etc and I had to get an external LG optical drive for some software but it wouldn’t let me watch my physical copy DVD’s. It said I had to download an app in order to get it work but none are free lol. And windows media player wouldn’t work either haha maybe it’s something you could address in another video 👌🏽
