Family of 12 ❤️ Why Do We Have 10 Kids?

  • People often wonder why we have 10 kids. As a child I always wanted a big family, then in the crazy teenage years, the dream sort of waned. But as an adult I started to appreciate children in a whole new way. In this podcast style vlog I share our journey and what inspired us. I also talk about some thoughts on the Independent Fundamental Baptist Church, The Quiver Full Movement, Above Rubies, No Greater Joy (Michael and Debbie Pearl), Homeschooling, and a couple birth stories along the way 😊 #largefamilylife

You were born to parent this many kids. The world needs parents like you who provide the right opportunities for kids. The right boundaries, the right nutrition, the right discipline not to mention siblings and what that means long term . You look incredible for someone who has had that many kids and maybe that was your journey. We need music we need community that large families offer . Thankyou xxx

Amen, need more parents that would just take care of one child as she takes care of her ten children , happy to watch her taking care of her children , there Gods gifts .

Rude to ask why so many, rude to ask others why don't you have any, rude to ask when is your baby due when she is not pregnant.

These parents do not provide adequately. 10 kids in a 2 bedroom apt? and it's against the law not to provide adequate bedroom space. The crib is an accident waiting to happen being a fold up. Meals? Soup with a dash of protein and how 12 people can eat from that pot of soup or stew is astonishing.
No one needs large families when they are unable to house and feed them.

Children do not need bedrooms. I spent 12 months in Vietnam. 6 kids 2 parents in a bedroom and me. All thriving learning loving and wonderful development cognitively. Rooms are not important. Nor is space. It’s about human interaction and opportunity. Xxx

I was a only child of a single mother, I always craved siblings and all the madness it brings 😆☺️ I grew up, got married to my high school sweetheart, had 5 children, 3 girls, 2 boys with 2 of the 5 being twins. I absolutely love our crazy loud house and couldn’t imagine it any other way ☺️

I have always been drawn to large families, too. I am not down with the fundie/hard right ideology of many of the families espoused. I ended up having 6 kids and what a blessing and a challenge all rolled into one😊❤

My dear, you are so adorable and so sweet! You do you, it's nobody's business why you have so many children, you and your husband have been blessed beyond measure! I grew up in a family of 3, my best friend grew up in a family of 9 this was back in the 60s and our parents considered us as another child in both family's. Yes, a large family was fun. I have 2 adult children, no grandchildren yet?! I agree with you God loves children, it is so sad that so many young adults don't want children losing our family values! In closing I'd like to wish you and your family a very Happy Easter!!

You and your family are absolutely delightful. I sense a lot of inner peace and I see it in your calm and nondefensive responses to other (unbalanced) people's comments and critiques. That is more inspiring than you may even know, a rare and real demonstration of Christlikeness. PS My husband is one of 11 and he loved being in a large family. We have 6 of our own and I'd like to have another. 😊

I love the vulnerability and honesty of these videos, thank you for sharing. So much of your journey is relatable to my own experience with 6 children - ideolizing large families as a child, starting a family young, thinking you were done after 3 and then more coming in a natural flow, just meant to be. Homeschooling, etc. But above all else that I related to in your story - is the joy that siblings bring to one another. Mine range from age 1 to 15, and seeing the different age groups interacting is magical. That's the only word for it. I'm a little into my 30s now and am quite sure I won't be having more - but even now, I still look on at families like yours, with more children than my own, in awe and fascination. 💕

My church sings all hymns, too, and I love it!
I wanted 6 kids when I was young. I grew up the oldest of 4. But I didn't get married until I was 35 and by that time, a large family seemed like too much of a burden to put on my nervous husband.
Then we had our first and he was picking out half a dozen more names! God gave us 2 and one is particularly difficult. God knows what he's doing. Just keep following Him.

I have always admired big families too. I have 2 young children, ages 3 and 6, and would love more, but I'm 39 and feel like taking care of young ones is getting harder as we get older. If we could pass over the sleepless newborn stage I'd keep having more, haha!
It was very encouraging to hear you talk about your son with the hearing issues. We're in the midst of a lot of ear infection/tube surgery with my 3 year old and its gut wrenching. It was so nice to hear how well he's doing. Makes a momma worry when they're so young!

We are blessed to have that good fertility and healthy pregnancies but sometimes I wonder why God seems to give me the desire to have more children when those seasons kick in. Could use advice. Yes, I struggle too. Not always just after birth. But yes I definitely have seasons. I try to read my Bible before I dive into social media usually to help my brain recalibrate. Thanks, very interesting. I'm a mom of 5 (10-2) from Germany. No real big families around here, not even in churches. US vlogs I watch just seem to be "let God decide your family size" and having one every (other) year.
Encouraging to see that it also can be a journey. Right now my husband is done and I (41) not sure. Not always coping very well (guess I'm highly sensitive, plus not very organized) so not sure if we should have one more but can't really imagine never having a baby again.
We'll see. Also always pray God's will be done in our lives.

I had been curious about your story and I loved hearing it. My church experiences have been very similar, but as I’ve said, if I ever find a perfect church, and I go, it will no longer be perfect. LOL! We are all sinners saved by grace. Sadly, outside appearances in all churches - even outside of the church is what is seen on the outside - but what God sees on the heart is what we are to aspire to - not the legalism in all of society. I never got caught up in the Gothard movement but I have friends who did - some still do follow that way of life - but our family has never followed any kind of a movement although we were in churches that were as you described. I strived to please God - not my fellow church members.
I’m so glad you aspire to have that attitude and your family has God’s love for each other - such polite well mannered kind friendly children.
I wanted to have a big family as well, but physically it didn’t work out. I ended up with 3 children. We were a military family so moved a lot - except for a few years where we were basically a Homestead style family. We have gone through many trials - sadly suffered the post war deployment consequences in our marriage. and also lost about $100,00 in that housing market of 2007. We’ve had many trials - were devastated by severe financial losses - built a beautiful home but things happened and we no longer live there…. Things have been difficult, but I have seen God’s miracles through it all so many times. I’m the type of person who reads the last chapter of a book before the middle chapters - I like the last few minutes of a ballgame - not the drama of the in between action. But it’s always neat to look back and see at the conclusion of that life trauma how God has revealed each chapter - each play of the game even though I couldn’t see how He would do so when I was in the middle of the action - a place I don’t like to be. I’m in the middle of another ‘opportunity’ for exercising my faith to happen this summer - but I know God will see me through. Thank you for being real. You have so much energy. You remind me of my own 3 children - my daughter loved college so much she went for 13 years - my children love to talk - they take after their dad in their energy and being an extrovert - they make their own molds in life. it’s ok to not be a cookie cutter so please don’t let any negative comments people make on here spoil your enthusiasm. My great great grandmother had 11 children and as I’ve been researching her life, even though she outlived 10 of them (3 died of Diphtheria, 1 of the 1918 influenza, and the other 6 of TB) and after her husband died in his 60’s she started a completely different life - and in being able to find out about her, she had spunk and faith to the end. Her obituary described her as being splendid. I want that to be my testimony - although I am far weaker. So keep on no matter what - God will provide for you every step of the way.

Such a beautiful story. Yes I’m a “last chapter” reader too❤️ I love the story of your great great grandmother. I do think often about my funeral, not in a morbid way, just in a “what am i leaving behind?” way. I do hope our lives will be a testimony of faith that had fun along the way.❤️

Your story is beautiful! Thank you for sharing it. It will have a happy ending. It already does! I had a moment of pause when you said that 9/11 made you want children. Then, I saw a video yesterday of you all at the 9/11 memorial. I think it was your first time there… now you live in NYC. You have tremendous faith and I admire that. I take nice that you share your family’s story with others. We all struggle with life in various stages of our lives and to different degrees. So much of it comes down to staying focused on God, believing and having faith. Nobody is perfect and in this crazy world , it’s nice to have gentle reminders, such as your videos.

I had extremely bad endometriosis and when I had a cancer scare and I had a radical hysterectomy the oncologist told me after that I was the worst case of endo she had ever had to deal with. She said she was surprised I ever got pregnant. Knowing this I see my children even more as gifts. God knew my heart that I longed to be a mother and he chose to bless me. You are so blessed to have all these children. Imagine how many grandchildren you’ll have one day. I only have one son and he and his girlfriend both are only child’s. Neither of them ever want children. It’s none of peoples business why you have so many children. Your mom sounds like me. I used to do the same with my son. We had “mental health days”. We would go hiking or to a movie, sometimes we just stayed home, snuggled up and watched movies. At the same time I enrolled him in every class or camp I could find. You do what you can. I see a lot of the passive aggressive comments people leave you. It’s so rude but you always respond so kind to them. If it were me I’d be blasting them right back!! But you are too kind to do that. I love your videos. I love watching your big family. One thing I wish you’d do is a series featuring each kid. Tell us their hobbies or interests. How their personality may be different from the others. At least the older kids. When you talk about where you were on 9/11 reminds me of where I was during an air disaster in San Diego. Your mom was probably pregnant with you at the time. 2 planes collided with each other over North Park. I can’t remember how many casualties there were but it was quite high. Keep being you Amber!!

I just love this! I honestly feel like we’d have so much to talk about in person! My husband was an only children and before we were married, he told me he wanted 8 kids! I laughed but always wanted at least four. Well, over the years we have also been influenced by large families around us- Muslim refugees, conservative Christians in similar movements that you shared (and we nearly joined but I felt something was off, even though their families are often so lovely and caring for each other). God used those things to put on our hearts to welcome our children (5 right now… who knows maybe more to come, I would love more but we are in a small place in an unaffordable city so that wears on me) and also homeschool. We are also right in the city. I so appreciate all that you’ve shared. So many large families live in the country so it’s nice to see another family making it work in the city. Ultimately it’s about where God calls you. Blessings!!

I am a mom of six kids and my husband will be coming home from a deployment. He keeps talking about having another baby and I’m on the fence. I have to make a choice if I am going back on BC before he comes back or just let happen what will happen before he gets a vasectomy. I am a believer but us having many kids has nothing to do with our faith. We always wanted 4 but we were blessed with twins with our 5th pregnancy.
I know overall I won’t regret having more kids but the twins are almost one and I’m glad to be getting out of the baby phase. I liked listening to your story because having a big family isn’t common these days and most of the time people assume it’s due to “your” religion. I also like what you shared at the end about the siblings, my oldest is only six so they are all close in age. People will comment about how well they play together and how it seems they like each other. We are so blessed with our family and I don’t regret having them so close.
I know I have to leave this in God’s hands and if he wants us to have another one and he will help me prepare for the whole journey again. My six year old wants another sibling and he jokes about triplets.

Wow! So cool to hear your story. Having twins must be pretty wild! Yes we were back and forth a lot about how many kids to have. I think anything above 3 is considered a pretty big family nowadays. It sure is fun to see the kids playing and enjoying each other. Even as they get older. My older kids were all sitting around the table reminiscing about various times they remembered. That’s really precious to me too. Praying for Gods guidance!

I was like you growing up, but I had just one sibling. I LOVED big families, I figured I would have at least 4-6 kids!! Lol
Well, I got married "later" - age 33 and had somewhat difficult deliveries with my first 2 (all ending in c-sections, the 3rd i ended up just scheduling a c-section). I have 3 children. We lost our oldest to cancer when she was 4 (4 years ago), so now I am only raising 2 children. I still wish I could have more, but my husband doesn't want anymore because to the way the deliveries were and that we are "too old" 😓.

I believe any life God will give me is a huge blessing and we want more. But we are struggling with the fact that my husband learned he has a deadly genetic heart condition in the last few months (he went into cardiac arrest while I was pregnant) and has unfortunately passed the Condition on to our children. Now we don't know what we're supposed to do. We are open to adoption but it's so expensive and exhausting that we're fearful to try. We're praying God shows us how our family is supposed to grow now or if it's supposed to grow at all.

I was exactly like you about large families, it was just me and my sister growing up and we were 8 years apart so we weren't friends as kids the relationship was different I was like a second mom and she was my baby. I really wanted to have a ton of kids, then I actually started to have kids and was done with 3 then surprised with my 4th baby and we were done, then I really wanted a second daughter so we decided to try a few years later for another girl and we were blessed with our sweet baby boy, and then surprised again with our baby girl at the moment we are done, 6 kids is a lot and they're all little but I know god knows best.

I also did have a few losses in the mix, forgot to mention why I was done with 3 but it was because they were 3, 2 and newborn. Then with 4 they were 5,4,2 and newborn, now they're 10,9,7,5,17 months and 4 months.
