    at 5:55, you made a comment about "hope it makes sense." It makes perfect sense. I have tried literally most of the writing devices that I can afford to get the same paper - pencil feel. (Not because I am old school, but because my thought process while writing/jotting/doodling allows me to think a whole lot more than I ever get when I am writing on computer/or glass (iPad).
    Exceptional level of details. Really appreciate.

Not only are you advising them but you are giving an honest and down to earth insight of what most of us are expecting from this device. I still have another 1 month of so of waiting to get it delivered but your review has convinced me that I made the right choice and investment... • @justinsiegfried188
      @justinsiegfried188 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Michael Berstein I can’t stand people like you that comment just to try and make others feel bad about something they do or say that’s harmless to others. I wasn’t stating “people use too much paper” or anything like that. This isn’t a sidelines comment.

    • @justinsiegfried188
      @justinsiegfried188 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Michael Berstein I feel bad because there’s no reason for me to go through it so quickly, and it creates more waste that I need to be creating. On average I go through a notebook every two classes because of how much school I am doing. I am taking 5 classes a semester so that’s 5 notebooks a year. The area I live in doesn’t have paper or metal recycling. Therefore if I were to buy one of these devices I’d be cutting down on that non-recyclable waste. I can recycle electronics at Best Buy. Why do you feel the need to comment when someone states how they feel about something? Stop shaming people because you think you have some monopoly on morality.

      IMO, I have to wonder if that was a design choice and not something that was forgotten or overlooked. in a true paper/pencil experience, you can not stare at your notebook thinking of where is the mention of a word or phrase and it magically open to that. Even if you bullet journal, it is only as good as your index.

      This is a very important point. We have all heard horror stories of what can happen.
      A separate video should be done by someone to explain this better. Maybe the clue is in how the account is identified in the cloud. Is there a way that a person's name can be not directly linked to it while still being clear it is still our account. That is why I have avoided ever getting Office 365.

Instead, they keep behaving like their device is perfect and that users are at fault for wanting standardized and not broken functionality out of a premium priced device. Horrible behavior so far, and the device deserves so much more, but unfortunately it's being crippled by what they are doing with it. Very sad to see :(

    Man, I absolutely love your reviews. Been looking forward to your remarkable 2 review!
    Got a question though: you mentioned on an older video that you work with games? If you're comfortable, what do you work with?
    I'm in game dev and the remarkable seems like something perfect to bring into the lots of meetings. Sketching, talking notes and having it synced to my PC is actually the main drive.
    I can't count how many times I left a meeting and had to type down my notes, send a messy email with pictures of the sketches made.
    Are the PNGs exported with transparent or white background? I can see myself sketching with it and then simply using the sketch as the base to finalize an idea in Photoshop.

    • @MyDeepGuide
      @MyDeepGuide  4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I work in Unity as the main engine and tons of other programs for creating assets and artwork for the games.
      I use the reMarkable all the time for problem-solving, system design, mind mapping, UI design, layouts, logic structure and of course meeting notes.
      I rarely convert them, but a handful of times I needed to do it, it required minimal amount of corrections.
      PDFs are white, but you can export as SVG, scalable vectors ,and the. You're free to do what you want :)

    This was a FANTASTIC review! I only wish that the screen form factor wasn't so dang small!!! I mean what is the actual drawing area size? 7 x 9? That's crazy small. Why could they have not just gone to 8.5 x 11?
    Can you answer these questions:
    1. Working screen size dimensions
    2. Can you erase just a tiny portion of a line or mark like a real eraser?
    3. The screen texture: Does it have a nice pen to paper feel or is it slippery? I need it to have some friction.

    • @KikiYushima
      @KikiYushima 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      At least on the rM1, the pen to paper feel is pretty fantastic. It's not slippery at _all._ It's nice and scratchy with plenty of drag.
      As long as you're using the *branded* reMarkable nibs.
      I personally use some unbranded Chinese ones that are thinner and make it feel a bit more slippery.

      I have a Remarkable 1 and the screen size is about 6.1 x 8.3. The diagonal is 10.3, the same as the Remarkable 2 so they should have similar screen dimensions. It's a bit bigger than an A5 page (5.8 x 8.3) and the bezels can act as a margins so you can write more on it than an A5 sheet of paper. They have now removed the buttons at the bottom, they could have took advantage of this by increasing the screen size to make it feel more like an A4 page (which would be ideal for me). Having said that, I love the RM1 and RM2 looks awesome.

    I've been eyeing this kind of device due to that anxiety of not wanting to waste pages on normal notebooks, and in not just being able to write indefinitely but also being able to have an entire library's worth of notebooks on a single pad.
    I always found "do-it-all" tablets like iPads too distracting and annoying to look at when light shines on it and how palm rejection is still kinda hit or miss forcing me to not put my wrist down.
    I haven't been this excited in e-paper tech since the Pebble watch and I honestly hope this company doesn't die or get bought out like Pebble before I can afford one of these (...assuming I can even find a way to get this in my country).

However, when it showed up I noticed a problem I have not seen anyone complain about: the handwritten text is so incredibly pixelated. It's unusable. At 25m11sec you show how fast the OCR is done, but how can you compare it with what you actually wrote as it has already replaced it. It would also not be good if it appeared on a different page as that cannot make comparisons easy. So could there be a way to connect your two accounts if you have a previous remarkable 1 and ask that the text recognition versions be displayed on that one and leave the ones you have just written still on the remarkable 2? That could be a great way to use both old and new versions of the reMarkable. That would be also why having a different account is not good unless you can specify in the account number that is your account 2 for the reMarkable 2 and your account 1 is for the remarkable 1 and then you just decide which the translated text goes to. So you could arrange that translated text after the OCR process for the other also be sent to the alternate remarkable.
    So you should make this suggestion to the company that they account number for both be very similar at the beginning with an extension number indicating which device it is for.

    Helllo, would you suggest this as a substitute for intensive writing on paper? I write like 1500 words a day, and after some years my desk is being overhelmed by sheets and, furthermore, I spend a lot of time typing on my pc what I've wrote on paper, so an instrument capable of converting to text my handwriting would be great, but I need to be sure it can convert such a great amount of words quite accurately. If not, there's a device you would rather suggest for this use? Thank you very much!

    It looks like convert to text Will convert whatever you written to only one style and one size of text and not include underlined or indents or paragraph set ups. Is this correct? Is there a way to convert to editable text that retains the style that you put it in. For example, if I want to use a bulleted list for notes for class or a to-do list, I want to be able to write my list, and then save it as text, and then be able to edit it by putting in an extra item or something later. Is that possible? Is magnification and editing in the magnified version possible? I am visually impaired and can write something small, but can’t read my own handwriting so need to convert and enlarge the writing to with with the document. Is that possible?

    Super useful guide. I'm looking at purchasing but want to do my due diligence; one thing that does worry me is the 8GB storage limit. Is it possible to delete your notebooks from the device to free up space, but keep them on the rM cloud so that they are accessible and can be downloaded if you want to keep working on them?

    • @MyDeepGuide
      @MyDeepGuide  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      An excellent question, but unfortunately, and puzzlingly, after the platform existing for almost 4 years, the answer is no. You can't back it up. The only way to do it is to manually export your notebooks and documents and back them up as files on a computer, but backing up notebooks in their native format, not as PDF, is not possible. This I find equally strange as the fact that you still can't bookmark pages in a document, and that you can't register more than one device per account.

    • @blueb0g
      @blueb0g 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MyDeepGuide Many thanks for the reply. That is puzzling, but actually seems to be an annoyingly consistent expression of Remarkable's attitude in keeping the ecosystem very closed (which is one thing if you're Apple, and quite another if you're a small company whose product has very limited functionality and small storage). Once you've converted to a PDF, is that 'it' as it were - so I couldn't, say, re-import that PDF to my Remarkable and keep working on it as a notebook, beyond making annotations as on any other PDF? In other words, the notebook is done once you've exported it?
      Thanks for your excellent reviews.

    • @MyDeepGuide
      @MyDeepGuide  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Once exported it is no longer a notebook, it becomes a document, and it follows the rules of a document in that ecosystem. The main limitations then become:
      1. Not possible to add new pages (defies the purpose of a notebook)
      2. Not possible to erase or edit written data.
      So yeah, essentially, it all gets baked down and locked in and that's it.

    Would switching back and forth between the book and your notes be a huge pain?

    • @MyDeepGuide

      As it is now, yeah, because you'd need to go out of the book, navigate your file structure (or just search for) the notebook you want, and then go back into the notebook.
      Placing the document and the notebook in the same folder would make the process easier, and the positives are that whenever you go back into a document or a notebook, you continue from the page where you left.
      So it can be made to work ok, if organized like that.

      That's what I figured. I really love the idea of a functionally transparent, distraction-free device. Since the reader functions seem a bit half-baked, I'm trying to get the 1st gen on ebay for a good price, rather than splurge for the new one.
      The reader functions remind me a bit of the first generation nook (the kind with a non-touchscreen eink display, and a small and wide LCD at the bottom). The design was really cool, but the highlighting code was so poorly written, that the more you highlighted a document, the slower the highlighting got. I mean, every. single. press. of. an. arrow. key. started. to. take. a. second. or. two. as. the. idiot. code. parsed. the. entire. document. for. each. and. every. key. press.
      I hope they increase the speed of functions like that, even if they don't add any new features. I like the fact that they let you ssh into the device -- I wonder if it will let you put a custom OS on it, or sideload your own apps somehow (paging geohot, please pick up!) ;)
