  • Join researchers from the Reef Environmental Education Foundation and the Cayman Islands Department of Environment as they study one of the last great reproductive populations of Nassau Grouper. Normally a solitary species, during the winter full moons Nassau Grouper travel, sometimes over great distances, to "group" together and spawn. While most of the known spawning sites in the Caribbean have been fished out over the years, the west end of Little Cayman in the Cayman Islands is home to largest known reproductive spawning aggregation of this endangered species.

I'm from the Bahamas 🇧🇸in Nassau where the Nassau Grouper get their name and we have a ban on catching them during the spawning season.... I know that there are International groups studying the groupers and also our conch that are almost extinct everywhere else in the world... Our largest island Andros is called the fish nursery of the world... That is that beautiful area where the water is that beautiful turquoise blue that astronauts can see from space
I wish they all can cooperate to preserve the fish population for the next generations

Whatever, all they had to do was ban all businesses from selling that fish and keep a very close eye on it. Those fishermen would have never made a penny off of it.

There was no market for them though.... they were catching them because they were big fish.

No fishing during spawning, period! Fishing at the spawning-grounds is abject lunacy...

Why would you catch and/or cook these friendly fish? They’re adorable that way and diving tourism would’ve made more profit

“How do the Grouper know when???” God… How do the Swallows know when to go to Capistrano? God.. How do Geese know when to fly north??? God.. How does the Human Body know when to go through Puberty??? God.. God instills His Creation with characteristics in the brain during formation in the wombs.

If man would only do what our Lord says to do, everything would stay healthy!
We can fish for 6 years and then take a year off! But now with these terrible nets they use, who knows???
