  • Ohio State's offensive line was under fire in a major way last season and enters the 2024 season with national title hopes falling on their play.
The group seems ready for that discussion and more, at least that's one of the primary takeaways from the Buckeyes offensive line availability on Thursday night at the Woody Hayes Athletic Center.

According to the 247 rankings, OSU has the #7 ranked OT .. Carter Lowe .. and the #40 ranked IOL .. Jake Cook. Two O-linemen .. both from Ohio. Happy to get McFadden this weekend, but he'll be the #29 ranked IOL. So yes, I think it's OK for fans to expect better .. at a top #3 football school .. and for media to ask if Justin Frye can do better.

Oh no only ranked top 40 and above in the entire country in opinion based ratings out of tens of thousands of players at the position what will do?

Some fans unfortunately the most vocal never take into account the scouting and time OSU puts in to identify recruits they just think a higher number automatically means better.

David Hale of ESPN huge dis on Howard. Read the ESPN+article ranking all FBS teams by tiers. OSU is tier 1 with GA, OR, TX. But he writes this: the biggest question is Howard. Is he up to the task...it's akin to OSU spending the money to build a rocket ship, then hiring a pilot from a budget airline to fly it. It could work. He's certainly not without the basic knowledge it takes to do the job. It just feels like there's a real disparity in class.

Do we fans and the press have to adjust our thinking to believing in Justin Frye's philosophy .. just because he has one? Or would it be better for Justin Frye to evaluate himself and ask if that philosophy is the best approach to landing the best talent?

I’m tired of this “ if they’re not ready to play at Ohio State they won’t get offered” Bs. Georgia and Alabama are better programs than Ohio State and they have zero problem offering 3 stars on the OL because they know how to actually develop. You say they have to be ready yet you have a guy like Jake cook on the class who may never play.

Maybe you should join those fanbases instead of undermining OSU with badly informed opinions/lies.

Last season’s bowl game made it abundantly clear how much Carson Hinzman and Kyle McCord meant to this Offense. When you’re thin at position depth => any change reveals your true situation.
Day and Frye had not developed adequately.
OSU wins that bowl game by 14 - or 17 - or even 21 points with Hinzman & McCord playing.
Marv makes it a lopsided victory of 24 - 28 points => but we didn’t need him to win the bowl game easily.
Day had been daft and clueless every year so far. Hopefully, with all the talent this year => we can win IN SPITE OF HIM.
I’m trusting that Downs, Judkins, McLaughlin and Kacmarek can be the big difference in the 3-5 games we have with elite teams this season => because Coach Day hasn’t risen to that level/challenge of competition yet and I don’t expect him to.

Here’s the problem Birm => if we don’t have the numbers (ie extra 3 star linemen we’re developing) and something happens (and it always does) like Harry Miller….or last years Hinzman incident…..or the Covid situation…or an injury like TTUN had when their All American O-Lineman was injured and carted off the field ==> who was better prepared?
TTUN went on to win the Natty… while we had the Missouri Bowl Game snafu…..
    If you can’t SEE IT……you really shouldn’t be doing this gig…..wake up……
