Sarah Soliman intersex people probably have to figure their gender out by themselves. If you watch the vid again you can see pigeon says they are intersex and non binary. Sex:intersex gender:non binary. I’m sure there are binary intersex people too.
I grew up with an intersex friend, my friend's family came from Kenya to receive surgery and my grandmother paid for their housing and food during their stay. She visited the family 3 times a week and always brought me to play with the children. They dressed my friend as a girl for so long because of Faith's voice and then after a few years,Faith began developing men features, which resulted in the family changing Faith's entire identity. When I was young I didn't really understand, but I always felt so sorry for Faith. Faith was always miserable. I'm glad you have the courage to speak for those who feel so alone in the world. ❤️
Wow! Good for you for telling your story, I'm a RN and I've been telling people for years that some people are born this way, and a lot of people didn't believe it's possible and didn't really want to hear about it. I'm sorry your parents were so mis informed that you had to undergo unnessesary surgery, you seem like a really good and happy person, thanks for sharing something so personal, I wish you the best
Thank you for a wonderful film and a job well done. I am also an intersex person. My intersex variation of cryptorchild. I want to say that no matter who you are intersex, gay, polysexual, transgender, demisexual, panromantic, non binary and so on,you deserve happiness. Your orientation, gender identity or intersex variation is just a feature of your biology, there is no need to be afraid of this or something like that, you need to be a good person and bring good to the world. Good luck to you! And sorry for the grammatical errors in the text.
Oh my gosh! I just got my national geographic in the mail and I screamed. My mom asked me what was wrong and I just yelled "PIDGEON"! I'm so happy that you are on the cover! And there are really good articles in this issue. I will be keeping it for a long time.
I always thought that I was a fairly fluid thinker but I have to admit I probably would have based my decisions around what was right for my baby on the advice and ‘expertise’ of medical professionals. Thank you for sharing your incredible story and for enlightening me. Whilst I doubt that I’ll ever have to have these conversations with a Dr, I can honestly say that I would never now consider making a decision for my child before they were able to communicate their identity to me themselves. You’re a real inspiration, I’m so sorry that you ever went through this but, because of you, many other intersex children will never have to. ✌🏼
Wow. The doctors lied about needing your gonads removed. Actually in the US and UK some were trained to lie about this because it would be too hard for parents to handle. I would leave my kid alone and see how they develop.
Okuhle Osh No no, you dont see. This cancer risk is only increased for people with XY chromosome but showing female characteristics. For females with XX chromosomes gonadectomy is not neccessary. This guy surely needed it.
Mind 🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯you learn something new everyday! Much love & respect! Hands down to you for sharing your story! Now...lol I have to watch again! Lol to make sure I get what you are sayin. ☺️😁
Ooh! I love that an intersex individual is also hitting the youtube scene. Thank you for educating the general population. Quick note, gonads is the word used for the sex organs regardless of how testicle like or ovaries-like they are.
I had something similar happen when my child was born. When I gave birth, immediately said it's a boy! Which is what I already knew due to ultrasound. Shortly after, the nurses and doctors were confused as to why my son didn't have testicles. The sack was there but nothing was inside of them. Btw, this hospital was shitty because it was a small town hospital and the doctors weren't equipped to take on what was about to happen next. So the doctor comes in and point blank rudely tells me "we don't know what IT is". Excuse me? It? The fuck? That's my child and I literally just went through hell (20 hours labor) I'm tired and you're being rude? He then says something along the lines (it's been almost 10 years so I don't remember word for word so please excuse my memory) "we don't know what your child is because we don't see any testicles. We don't know if it's a male without testicles or a female with a VERY enlarged clitoris. If your child is male but has ovaries your child can die". Here I am a 19 year old single, scared to death mother hearing something is going on with her baby. 😳 so because the hospital was small they didn't have the equipment needed to actually determine his DNA and do all that jazz. The only thing they could do was use an ultrasound on his abdomen to see if he had testicles. They couldn't find them so he ended up staying the night but the next morning he was transported by ambulance to a children's hospital 2 hours away (which is in the city I currently live now). I was released after I was suppose to stay my visit and went straight to where he was. The children's hospital apologized to me for such bad behavior those moronic doctors and nurses at the little hospital had. They told me that it wasn't super common but that they had seen a few cases and was going to run all kinds of tests to figure out what was going on. In the end, he had a chromosomal analysis done and I had to wait on the results to come in (not sure how long it took) but he was in fact 100% male. The other thing they did was check to see if it was ovaries or testicles. It was of course testicles and that they were undescended. So he ended up having surgery at 13 months to drop them into his sack. They waited til then because they said usually at a year testicles will drop if they haven't by birth. He's not intersex but I just wanted to share my story because it was sort of similar at the beginning as far as "what are the organs in the abdomen" thing. It was definitely scary for me especially being a teen. His dad wasn't in the picture. He refused to come to the hospital for his birth so my parents were there. My dad went the hell off on the hospital for their unprofessional conduct and how they immediately told me he was going to die if he had ovaries. They did say that having the surgery would be the best option if they didn't drop because he was at higher risk for cancer.
I'm so sorry they exhibited such unprofessional behavior towards you. We need to get rid of the binary concept of sex and gender. It's an illusion. We exist in a spectrum. A healthy, beautiful, spectrum. This type of unnecessary trauma is UNNECESSARY.
MSLT thanks for sharing. I too had a horrible experience with a shitty hospital and staff. This was 14 years ago before they had patient surveys and all that. I also was young and didn't know how to handle it. My daughter's situation was different, but none the less had do deal with ignorant staff on top of it. I'm glad your dad put them in their place.
Hospitals shouldn't be rude like that regardless. I was born with a cyst and they had the gall to tell my mom I was "deformed" She was horrified of course, turns out it was nothing serious at all.
Sorry to hear about what happened. It sounds like yet another case of doctors carrying out unnecessary and harmful surgery on an intersex person. If you have AIS then the gonadectomy was not only unnecessary, but actually harmful, as it's removed what were functioning hormone-producing organs, and has unnecessarily made you dependent on HRT for the remainder of your life. A person with AIS develops testicles just like an XY male does, it's just that the mutation that causes AIS means that your body doesn't respond to testosterone, so all your development takes place as if there was no testosterone present (which causes you to develop a female body, except without female internal organs, and with internal testes in place of ovaries). There's some speculation amongst doctors of an increased risk of the internal testicles in people with AIS becoming cancerous later in life, but to my knowledge there's no proof of that, and even if there is an increased risk, it's quite small (no more than the risk of breast cancer for instance). On the other hand, in conditions where gonadal dysgenesis has occurred (such as Swyer's Syndrome), the "streak gonads" (which are what develop in place of ovaries or testicles in cases of gonadal dysgenesis) do need to be removed. since they're not capable of producing hormones anyway, and there's a big risk of them becoming cancerous. However, with AIS, gonadectomy shouldn't be necessary, or certainly not until adulthood anyway.
You can be proud of yourself. So young and brave enough to put a face on an issue that is complicated and surrounded with so much prejudice. Thank you so much for posting your story. Also, you're very, very cute.
Pidgeon you are a beautiful person!!! Watching this vid i saw this person with what could only be described as an incredible aura! You have both inward and outward beauty, too bad there aren't more people like you. People like you bring more to the world and to the people around you, causing smiles giggles and all around good moods. I know this as i have been lucky enough to have had more than a couple of them as friends throughout my life.
At first I didn't know what intersex mean and so I was like imma watch this, because I was bored when I heard their voice I was like😱 I was like, this is cool😂
You do have a nice voice, but that's not why we listen to you, beyond the first few seconds. It's because you have good and important things to teach us.
So glad I found your channel. I had a pt that was also intersex. But her family k ew and the Dr wanted to wait till puberty to perform any surgery etc. Thanks for being so brave
Condition? In Germany we're about to acknowledge intersex officially as the 3rd biological Sex so in the passport will probably be "x" as an option next to "f" for female and "m" for male. Btw you're hella hot oml
That's true and false both. Yes, there is the option to have your legal gender/sex replaced by "divers" or an empty spot but medically speaking Germany is super far behind. Intersex is still taught to be a condition and surgeries on intersex folks, especially babies, are extremely common because surgeons make a ton of money with it. So, Germany is one of the many countries that still pathologizes intersex and contributes to the detriment of intersex people, whereas in Malta and Chile those surgeries are forbidden.
Thanks for sharing your story! I think that probably people like you are here to help us all question our beliefs and assumptions. My family is conservative and when they bring up bathroom issues, since they are intolerant of transgender people, I bring up intersex people, ambiguous from birth and I am sure dealing with the same issues. You are beautiful and I am glad you’re here!
You're amazing and super pretty!! Ever since I saw you on the buzzfeed intersex video I became really obsessed with you haha can't wait to see more from you!
I guess you should be, just a little. But forget Natalia, I've already picked you out to marry my son or daughter (don't care which). They're both happily heterosexually partnered up for the moment, but I can soon break that. LOL.
Subscribed after seeing you and your cool haircut/style yesterday in my feed. Thank you for your bravery to be informative and educating the world. You have a hard time with words. Lol
I recognize you from the intersexion documentary! So happy that you’ve started your own channel to educate others on intersex! Before my gender studies class I didn’t know much about it either and now I wish more people would begin to petition some kind of law that could stop non-consensual surgeries from happening on infants and children.
dear gawd. every time i hear a story like this, i get mad. i also love that you did your best to elucidate all on the science behind this, despite it not being your responsibility to explain your own existence. you did a fantastic job, obvs. thank you!

I feel like all the dislikes are from anti trans people who think pigeon is some sort of trans person but were too ignorant to realize what intersex really means
There's an ancient Sumerian myth about a gender ambiguous person who is able to seduce the death godess with their beauty and mystery, however they trick the godess and free the godess of fertility whom the death godess was holding captive. the death goddess punishes this person by forcing them to be out cats and forever live in the shadows. However the goddess of fertility took pity on them and gave them the power of healing and prophecy.
Yeah, we're definitely fckn cursed as far as the 'forever out cast' thing.... Its like a cruel fckn joke that nature has played birthing us into a world that it KNOWS we will have to forever suffer & live with unearned "punishment" /mistreatment, suicide-inducing loneliness & ostracization, endless humiliation & dehumanization, & a long list of other messed up stuff for our entire lives... JUST because of how we we're born ..... Pigeon is lucky though... At least she/he doesn't have to endure being Intersex AND Black in this Hell called "Life"...
Our science teacher actually had a whole lesson about this! And I’m glad that I got to learn it, because everyone is so different. And it’s very good to have the knowledge about this, thanks for the video!
When I went to Nursing School in 1980, we learned that intersex babies used to be given surgery ASAP after they were born, to assign and correct their sex organs. That was the “standard of care”, thought to be in the child’s best interests, but it tended to have terrible consequences. I thought “wait and see” before surgery was today’s standard of care for intersex kids, but you had a different experience!
Yes they (the current medical establishment who is entrusted with our care) try to make it seem that way but it’s a lie... they are still more or else operating the same way... not enough has changed.
Pidgeon: I think the younger professionals value informed consent much more highly, and are less likely to be paternalistic, but it’s inherent in “professional ethics”. I’ve seen vast improvements during my life, but we must still demand high-quality healthcare, which is evidence-based!!!
@@sandrastreifel6452 yes, the younger folks are definitely way better. problem is, many of the older folks are still in charge of the peds uro and endo clinics and are able to exert their way of thinking... outwardly facing the try to paint a rosier picture, but they are still performing elective surgeries on intersex kids bodies for appearance sake... robbing us of our autonomy and often leaving us with medical issues. not to mention a lifelong dependency on healthcare in a country that doesn't have single payer--but that's another topic for another day.
I just want to hug you, not out of pity or anything but because you just seem so sweet and I can’t help but smile looking at you❤️ (sry if that sounded weird😂)
I've been seeing your Part 4, pop up in my recommendations lately... Thought I'd take a look at the first, and I have to say I love your attitude and the way you present your info. Very real, and I really appreciate this. Thank youu.
because it's so uncommon, many people would look down on the condition but it's incredibly brave of you to be very open about it. I've learned so much within 5 minutes! you're awesome :-)
My body developed male facial hair and body hair and odor and had semi male muscles and a private (but small), but my skeletal structure is feminine as I have small shoulders, small hands, and legs taller than my torso. About 4 weeks ago, my Testosterone level bottomed out, and my hips grew half an inch and starting curving as opposed to looking rectangular. My stomach grew round, my skin turned softer, and my eye lashes are now about 50% thicker. My glutes used to be small and rectangular, yet turned puffy and rectangular, then turned fat and round. I started growing breasts and have around a AA cup size now. I never really knew I wasn't 100% male until just the last 4 weeks. I haven't seen a doctor yet, but I bet if I have a Chromosome test done, I'll find out I'm XXY. I have lots of personality symptoms of Klinefelter's Syndrome, as well.
once I watched a Japanese tv drama about an intersex girl. that's when I found out about the condition and made my own research. and I am surprised that transexualism is spoken about more than the intersex, because intersex people have been here from the beginning of times and there a lot of historical evidences to that. when I was in louvre in Paris I saw that amazing sculpture of hermaphrodite and I got a feeling that in ancient times the intersex people were considered to be some sort of exotic god like beauty angels.
S B in many cultures around the world they were there was a tribe and I forgot what they were called but they lived in the Amazon and they believed that if there were intersex people they were worshipped because they were believed to literally be demigods however the Romans were not so kind they believed intersex people to be evil Omens and would literally burn them alive it's kind of sad
Pidgeon- I want to commend you for explaining your situation so well. Sadly, I learned about this in 1978 in college. When I would try to explain, people would tell me “that’s not true” or “they don’t know that”. Well obviously they DID know about it but evidently they didn’t share it within the medical community (before internet) fast enough. Heartbreaking that so many people have suffered needlessly. Thank you for sharing your truth!
Just found your video and need to make a few comments. 1) you did a great job explaining the situation. 2) not sure of your age but would say you are very mature to handle a topic like this on a public forum. 3) I learned a few things from your video , thank you.
don't worry over the little mistakes when sharing. it get's easier sharing on youtube the longer you share new video's. and please take breaks, it can be very easy to burn out with sharing over and over. it is good to see you sharing on YT.

Your voice / accent is my favorite thing! It’s so pure and soothing
A Sens you mean this person clearly has no culture or heritage? Yeah.
Diamond.Cr00ks what? Obviously everyone has an accent no matter where they’re from.
I've never heard of this till now
thanks for stopping by and learning :)
Sarah Soliman intersex people probably have to figure their gender out by themselves. If you watch the vid again you can see pigeon says they are intersex and non binary. Sex:intersex gender:non binary. I’m sure there are binary intersex people too.
even till now I have not listen but I respect these people
dont they teach this stuff at schools? kids should be learning this in bio...
Youve never heard of a hemephrodite?
I grew up with an intersex friend, my friend's family came from Kenya to receive surgery and my grandmother paid for their housing and food during their stay. She visited the family 3 times a week and always brought me to play with the children. They dressed my friend as a girl for so long because of Faith's voice and then after a few years,Faith began developing men features, which resulted in the family changing Faith's entire identity. When I was young I didn't really understand, but I always felt so sorry for Faith. Faith was always miserable. I'm glad you have the courage to speak for those who feel so alone in the world. ❤️
you're kinda attractive, man.
as in gender neutral term.
Swaroma909 Dair dats a women, well kind of, um
@David Leslie no INTERSEX or do male chromosomes mean nothing to you? Also Pigeon Identifies as non conforming - sorry but these are the facts.
Ser glian but no thing 😕
@David Leslie They are intersex biogical, and identified as a non binary
Hahah good one
You’re amazing. I love you. An inspiration 💖
Eden my queen
Eden The Doll - hey Eden im in love with ur brother
Thank you love ❤️
Eden ! 😍🖤🖤🖤🖤
I would leave my kid alone and see how they develop.
moi I am a doctor and you literally talk shit, gonads need to be removed due to high risk of germ cell cancers.
InfiniteBeach34 You’re no doctor.😂😂😂🙄
Panga LeeLee enjoy your teratoma :)
Panga LeeLee I actually am, I graduated last june but why would I try to convince some random person on internet?
Okuhle Osh No no, you dont see. This cancer risk is only increased for people with XY chromosome but showing female characteristics. For females with XX chromosomes gonadectomy is not neccessary. This guy surely needed it.
Mind 🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯you learn something new everyday! Much love & respect! Hands down to you for sharing your story! Now...lol I have to watch again! Lol to make sure I get what you are sayin. ☺️😁
I love it when people appreciate new/different qualities about others - rather than disrespecting and shutting down their explanation. xx
That Dr. was terribly rude OMG
Hospitals shouldn't be rude like that regardless. I was born with a cyst and they had the gall to tell my mom I was "deformed" She was horrified of course, turns out it was nothing serious at all.
you did a really good job pidgeon! I'll be excited to watch more.
thanks for the encouragement!!
Thanks Carly!!
1:00 "let me sniff peppermint " bahahha im so dead
Lol 3 minutes into the video and I'm still focused on your name being pigeon😂😂
However, with AIS, gonadectomy shouldn't be necessary, or certainly not until adulthood anyway.
you're spot on and super knowledgeable :) thanks for watching!
Hugh Easton it’s not really unessesary
Hugh Easto
+Hugh Easton That's really interesting. I always took the necessity of gonadectomy as gospel in AIS. Thanks for making me re-think it.
Except that in complete AIS the body cannot respond to testosterone from the abdominal testes and so a person with CAIS will need oestrogen therapy.
Gosh you’re beautiful, inside and out...thank you for this explanation, I watched with my 14 year old son to educate him 😍
I just love how confident you're about your body, it's inspiring.
Thank gawd I have this voice, or I don't know if anyone would subscribe lol ;)
You do have a nice voice, but that's not why we listen to you, beyond the first few seconds. It's because you have good and important things to teach us.
So glad I found your channel. I had a pt that was also intersex. But her family k ew and the Dr wanted to wait till puberty to perform any surgery etc. Thanks for being so brave
I’m intersex too. So I know how you feelllll I got my mother’s face. My fathers legs sort of but I’m taller than both. And I have XY (Male)
Is this a joke cause I’m 100% sure your lying
Condition? In Germany we're about to acknowledge intersex officially as the 3rd biological Sex so in the passport will probably be "x" as an option next to "f" for female and "m" for male.
Btw you're hella hot oml
Oh that's cool
That's true and false both. Yes, there is the option to have your legal gender/sex replaced by "divers" or an empty spot but medically speaking Germany is super far behind. Intersex is still taught to be a condition and surgeries on intersex folks, especially babies, are extremely common because surgeons make a ton of money with it. So, Germany is one of the many countries that still pathologizes intersex and contributes to the detriment of intersex people, whereas in Malta and Chile those surgeries are forbidden.
USA sucks
So basically he’s a boy whose balls never dropped. And his body produces too much estrogen because of it or blocks testosterone.
Ever since I saw you on the buzzfeed intersex video I became really obsessed with you haha can't wait to see more from you!
obsessed?? should I be worried ;) ?
I guess you should be, just a little. But forget Natalia, I've already picked you out to marry my son or daughter (don't care which). They're both happily heterosexually partnered up for the moment, but I can soon break that. LOL.
im trying to be respectful. so what are your pronouns? like would you rather be called he/him /she/her or they/them ?
Maja Imani I like they them... ☺️
Pidgeon u got it love🤟🏽🤟🏽💞
Shim/shem
I'm intersex. I have turners syndrome, when a female has only one X chromosome. I have only known for less than a year and I'm a teenager.
OMG. Your personality and your sense of humor gives me life. Subscribed to see how this story unfolds.
Subscribed after seeing you and your cool haircut/style yesterday in my feed. Thank you for your bravery to be informative and educating the world. You have a hard time with words. Lol
ADHD is a pain in the butt.
Love you no matter what. We are here for you pidgeon. ♡
I'm learning about this in my endocrinology class this semester, but it is really interesting to hear you speak about it!
This was so interesting, I can't wait to see more Pidgeon!
Thanks Candy
Mychael's Channel
I recognize you from the intersexion documentary! So happy that you’ve started your own channel to educate others on intersex! Before my gender studies class I didn’t know much about it either and now I wish more people would begin to petition some kind of law that could stop non-consensual surgeries from happening on infants and children.
dear gawd. every time i hear a story like this, i get mad. i also love that you did your best to elucidate all on the science behind this, despite it not being your responsibility to explain your own existence. you did a fantastic job, obvs. thank you!
Hey Pidgeon (and viewers)! I'm Ryan Little. Super honored to have my music in this video. Be sure to subscribe to my channel for more dope music and new releases :)
hey Ryan! Thanks for making dope beats to step to 🙏🏽
You are amazing❤️
Keep going!
u too sweet 😊
Will do... thanks for the encouragement
Pidgeon
I hate that the doctors convince the parents to choose
Thankyou for comforting me. I am intersex too but I think I'm more a woman but everyone bullied me growing up because they thought I was more a man.
Your my biggest inspiration
I’m so sorry that happened. I hope brighter days are ahead for you 🙏🏼
@@pidgepagonis thankyou so much !!
This is the first time I’m getting a more detailed explanation on what intersexuality is-thank you so much-I’m happy to have a better understanding
I love your courage and bringing awareness ❤️😻
@@luminescent__ You are an angel
Huuuuh there should be more intersex people in the world, such a beautiful creation from heaven so unique and undefined!!! Human life is dope ❤️
I just want to hug you, not out of pity or anything but because you just seem so sweet and I can’t help but smile looking at you❤️ (sry if that sounded weird😂)
Can I marry this human.

I love this so much 💚

Stop wishing to become part of the trend.
@@michaelr.4878 its not a trend. Its genetics
once I watched a Japanese tv drama about an intersex girl. that's when I found out about the condition and made my own research. and I am surprised that transexualism is spoken about more than the intersex, because intersex people have been here from the beginning of times and there a lot of historical evidences to that.
when I was in louvre in Paris I saw that amazing sculpture of hermaphrodite and I got a feeling that in ancient times the intersex people were considered to be some sort of exotic god like beauty angels.
3) I learned a few things from your video , thank you.
don't worry over the little mistakes when sharing. it get's easier sharing on youtube the longer you share new video's. and please take breaks, it can be very easy to burn out with sharing over and over. it is good to see you sharing on YT.
thanks for the advice & pro-tips 🙌🏽
+Pidgeon not to sure about the pro tips comment i honestly felt like an idiot most of the time... i mean i shared alot and some subjects hurt sharing. honestly i ended up stopping making videos in 2012 after getting alot of miss information being shared about me by other activists. someday i may share more it is good to see others though i mean having varying opinions and stories from others is good for everyone.
+Kailana Alaniz sorry, just meant to say thank you for your kind and excellent tips
I just loved the way you explained the birth story and paediatrician thing p🤣. I’m a paediatrician and I could totally relate it 😚👍🏻👍🏻 you are awesome 😎

As a human bio major you’ve done a better job at explaining the science better than my professors
Your voice literally shocked me! My eyes bugged out lol
for some reason i never realized red heads are that rare. i just thought there were more in certain places like ireland or something
I have Swyer "syndrome" but nobody knew until I was 17. Yay for intersex.
Such an important video. thank you so much for being so open. The more intersex awareness and visibility the better!
Mind blown 🤯... what an incredible world we live in, clicked because of how unfamiliar the word intersex was, very impressed with how open you are

I think you are an amazing human being. I hope that you continue to educate others through your personal experiences and true charisma.
Your personality is adorable and I love how much you smile omg. You explain this really well
What pronouns do you use?
I use gender neutral--but more on that in the next video ;)
Ok I'll be patient :)
Pidgeon so they/them?
Perhaps "it" and and or "itself"?
Felicity Ray Self way to be derogatory... Jackass.
Thanks for being cute and explaining about intersex. I am non binary androgynous or something but have lived as a male most of my life and fathered 3 kids. But hey, life is not that simple and I am coming to terms with who I really am and found someone who can relate to that.
Ralph Beardmore how can you relate to this person? Its an deformity. Its way different from your stupid other non existent gemders.
