having the rope sit behind the lure on like a split ring could give it more action along with the benefit of being able to replace the rope once tarnished. Love ur videos!
Looks heavy

The other poster said to tease out the fibers with a hairbrush. After you do that, loop the fibers back. Make the loops different lengths. This makes a bunch of loops around the Gars teeth when it chews the lure, keeps em on better. We used to tie Wooly buggers (fly) with the soft (loop) side of velcro. Brown Trout would spit out our flies as soon as they realized the weren't bugs. The loop velcro gets looped around their teeth and they keep the fly in their mouth longer so we could feel the fish and set the hook. Probably would work on the gar lure too
My dad and I used to catch barracuda with just a long red tube going through the water as fast as possible. I wonder if that would work for garr
Yeah tube lures are essential cuda gear. Back in the day they used to use red McDonald’s straws.
The cuda tube! Those are great
We use to catch yellowfin with a stainless steel tube. The hardest part was keeping the barracuda off them while landing them!
I have caught tons of different fish on the handle of a old butter knife. Ocean fish will literally bite anything
Wish I had a dad👽
You should make a series of making various food lures to see if fish like human food. I just thought that would be pretty entertaining. Keep up the good work.
A slice of pizza swimbait?!
burger buzz bait
Taco lipless
Chickenwing
Cheddar cheese block
Love the channel. FYI about the American flag. The stars should always be facing towards the direction of travel. Military does the same thing. One is “normal” which would be on the left side. Then the “backwards” one goes on the right side. Like running a flag into battle, just depends on which side you’re on.
You know i'm french and very patriot, i love my country, and people says that we don't have to be proud of our history and say that patriots are racists, mysogyns... its automatic when we like our country. What I love in USA is America fuck yeah and this spirit of celebrating our country without being critizised !! Awesome bait
I could watch bonus gardening all day long
Getting technical here: The stars end of the flag always gets oriented to the front in the direction of travel. For this lure, you put them on backwards. The blue side should be nearest to the nose of the bait. That's why you got eyes with the flag facing both directions (and not the same direction). This began in the Airforce. The flag will look normal on the left, but the right side of the plane is painted backwards so the flag appears to be flying in the wind.
I was gonna say the same, but since you already did, I'm just gonna like and comment on this comment.
He had no other way to orient they eyes. They came printed like that. They would be upside down if the stripes were correct
Wait you’re right. They’re two different directions. I thought only one was backwards. My bad
He specifically said, "one of the flags will have to be backwards". I also have yet to see the eye on the other side in this video.
@@rural4174 You're not understanding it. 6:57 is the left side and has the stars towards the rear. 7:06 is the right side and also has the stars towards the rear. He has them backwards and they should be swapped. Both sides should instead have the stars towards the nose and that's the whole reason for why the flag was printed in both directions. Think of it as though the lure has a flagpole... and then moves forward. How would the flag look from both sides? Regardless, it really doesn't matter to me. I was just making an observation.
I always love when you try a wacky but still functional/traditional bait. I’d love to see some more vintage lure recreations. I find myself rewatching those regularly.
Sorry for the triple comment; if I could give one recommendation on the rope rig, taking an old hairbrush to the rig really helps separate the fibers. I haven't done any tests, but feel it helps a lot with the action, & would reckon it helps with securing fish 🤙
Last tip: no hookset, open the bail and let 'em run for a bit 🙏💜 They run with their prey and shake it to death like a dog with a rabbit, and that's when they get snagged up in the rope!
I watched Richard Gene's video, and did what he did. It definitely works!
@@CarolinaBassHunter I made some significant improvements thanks to good ol' Richard Gene, The Fishing Machine! 💜🔥 I haven't met an angler yet (who's familiar with TH-cam and) that hasn't seen that legend one way or another.
Great afternoon hangin with Marling Baits and havin a late lunch. Gracias mi amigo!
I think as a challenge, you make a lure out of a bunch of popsicle sticks glued together. I’d assume the wood could be pretty light and maybe stronger than some would think. Keep it up and I love the vids. They are inspiring me to get into baitmaking as well!
My old fishing buddy gave an essay of a post earlier about our experience fishing for gar. He said that gar will generally only bite things they think they can fit in their mouths, we tend to use smaller lures and shorter sections of rope (4-6in). Something that really helps us with retaining them on a bite is burning the end of the nylon rope together with a lighter. This prevents their teeth from sliding off of the back of the lure. My friend did let me know that he no longer does that though and instead doubles the rope back up to the lure to make loops at the end. I also agree that they very much like baits with a good amount of flash. When we first started using rope lures we didn’t have anything but rope and a jighead in our lures. The gar were not nearly as interested as they had been with the inline spinners and other flashy lures that we were using to fish for other species.
I like making lures too. Never thought of using rope.
Very creative. Now it's time to make a floppy pink human swim bait in 2022! Let's make it O-FISH-AL! The bonus footage was amazing.
Ooooh, are we GAR FISHING? 🎣💜
You should know, these videos this summer inspired me to go buy a new Rod and Reel and start fishing again!
Obviously we all love the lure vids. But also am enjoying the other content as well. Love the garden and how it's all coming along.
80's hair band bait! Or Mullet Murica bait! Love the videos as always and hope you had a good weekend!
American 🇺🇸 eye on any bait is most appropriate! Awesome videos man!
Love how you build stuff like how you make baits. Wish you used a little baking soda, and super glue on that project though. Just for fun haha
yet again, another video to solve my rainy day boredom!
He dude your the best bait maker I watch on TH-cam I made a bait and I wanted you to see it one day
I like the bonus outdoor project footage
The bonus gardening has been a fun little extra😁
I think a wifey tied rwb feather treble would just make that bait!! Joy to watch as usual!
I enjoyed the gardening video as much as the lure making video.
BONUS GARDENING! WOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!
Fin is getting so big. We miss seeing Chip... don't forget to bring in Chip chip at the end.
actually liking the garden videos. i grew up gardening and seeing my parents do it and this is nice.
Dude yes! I haven’t even watched yet, but this brings back so many memories for me. What an excellent idea to spiff up the ole rope lure…. I think imma have to do this as well. Makes me think of my dad’s old river tackle box
Good way to start my morning 👍🏼 that bonus gardening was very soothing
Love your channel! You come up with some awesome stuff and I learn a ton from you. Keep it up and thank you!
i have to say that is a sick bait. it looks like a squirrel swimming
Wow time flies. Your son has gotten big.
Not gonna lie I come for the baits but stay for the garden builds 😊
Lookin real buff lately! 💪🏻👀
I bought a bait caster rod because you had one and it makes me feel a lot better that even you, who in my eyes is a pro, still deals with bird nesting
Love your Vids! Can’t watch enough of your genius mind at work
This is a gem of a video, thanks for the content as always !!
this garden and next bait brought to you by makita lmao love the work in the shop and in the garden
Oh happy Sunday!
That guitar in the background at 6:05....first time seeing that. It's pretty sweet.
Loving the bonus gardening and little extra vids at the end you do now keep it up :)
In the very first clip you were looking threw your Lens and totally missed the rope 😂😂 love it
Your yard is looking awesome!!
Always love the video's you put out. Doesn't matter what im doing if i get a notification that you have dropped a video it is put on. I would love to buy one of you lures
Came for the lure but got hooked for gardening.
Awesome lure bait build, Marling. Nice change up in the video on working on the garden.
Hey, Marlin did I win something? I got a message from you.
Love the gar trap!
I enjoyed the extra content, and thank you for switching to the circular saw, I was about to have a conniption. Be well.
Loving the ingenuity my dude! Your channel is basically a religion for me at this point. Keep it up
I am so happy to see you wearing protective glasses around the uv light. Macular degenerative blindness is no joke
Keep up the great work man!
new sunglasses are epic!
Oh my gosh you crack me up so bad! Love this video!
dude these are insane to watch
HAHAHA! Funny stuff man! I think I enjoyed your "Tim The Tackle Maker Garden Center Demo" as much as I liked the one day. You do carpentry like I do, it's never coming apart, but it ain't right! HAHAHAAA! I've been a fan of your channel for a long time, and love how you've respectively incorporated your family and other interests in your videos. When I was a younger man I melted plastic baits together with a soldering iron, made homemade jigs out of garage sale soup spoons, and carved Zara Spook variants from broom handles. Your channel has always spoken to me at a core level, not to mention I feel like you're someone I could simply drink a beer with. Keep up the good content.
As per usual an excellent video. Also good to see you let family get involved 👍🎣😎
Do you get a mixed bag of dead meat custom eyes or do you have to order individual sets and sizes
What a masterpiece lol 🤣
you was doubting it lol
Loved the intro with the rope😂
I got a like yessssssir made my day😂 legend
Love it. Lots of Gars around here, I think I’ll try that rope. Great video, as always.😎
That last part in the garden was hard to watch. lol You sure make nice baits.
This is sick dude!
You made my day man!!!!!
Those are soooo sick
Keep up the good work 👍🏼
Awesome 👌
awesome video man, loved the gardening segment :D
Wow it’s crazy seeing your kid grow up. My mom used to say after school life goes by fast, and she was right
Lfe saver! love these videos
nice B roll.....I like it
You should make a Squid with that tail it would make it look more real. But I love the effort you put in the vids that's why I watch them everyday.
Very cool creation, thank you very much, greetings from Algeria
Cool shades 😎
Nice building skillz!
I'm proud of you the lead pot was actually hot😁
Great lure there.
Let's go boys!
Almost 30 yrs ago now, my grandfather who was a huge bass fisherman told me to catch gar, you have to use the nylon rope. I used rope as a skirt for a buzz bait and it worked pretty well.
Was wondering when you were gonna do a rope lure. Looks dope
I wish colorado would stock trade some rainbow trout for gar with Iowa...probably wouldn't survive the winter, but whatever, the state stocks trout in low elevation lakes that don't survive the summer, so they should be fine with it.
Can we get a t-shirt with all your one liners. Start with white, lead’s hot, super glue baking soda, it’s official, one day, fun facts, and whatever else I’m forgetting.
Your Bandsaw skills are impressive!
awesome lure
WOW 😳 the wood glue was awesome 😂
I'm not saying anything 🙄 but .......
How about an artificial bait painted like an old school hot Rod car ? Like all Red with a big flame in the middle of the bait. I think it would look kinda cool!
I wish we had gar around here. I love your videos! You should make a floating duckling lure with the nylon rope as feet
The ultimate Gar Lure!
One day yes bring it on
Hmmm .... perfect size to turn that bait into a jointed square bill crankbait.
Great colour. 👍👍
Ain't NO damn deer gonna get in THAT garden!!
I really like those raised garden containers! Are they Vego or Birdies brand? Very nice setup.
Looking forward to seeing more bonus garden footage!!
bello fivee, so che ti guardi il grande Marlin Baits
I wouldn’t mind a second channel for home projects and stuff. I enjoy both lure making and Home stuff
Back in the late 1960's I made a gar bait using a 4 inch long piece of 1/4 inch nylon rope. I whipped a length of doubled 50lb mono to one end and painted it red, then "fluffed" the other end out. Best gar bait I ever had!
I seen the thumbnail and thought I’ve seen something like that before! Seen the gar trap way back in 2012 or something yours is way better!
The shape and style of this bait reminds me of the line through bait you made. Also it almost looks like a bucktail crank bait
I was so relived when he finally got the circular saw out. 😄
Architect here….build the fence panel first on the ground. Then set finished panels in you fence frames. Better quality control to work horizontally and prefabricated
Oh yeah kayak!!
Came for the lure, Stayed for the Garden. Why do I want to see this garden get done now just as much as the lure making vids. 2nd Channel Opportunity? lol.
