"...but there is still some work that has to be done match Sony and Panasonic" - Never in my life would have thought Panasonic will reach this level of AF. Especially for their 1st attempt at PDAF. In any case, this is an amazing camera, thank you for the review.
Wow let's go back to TV format. For 16 years since the Canon 5d large sensor revolution, filmmakers have been striving to get the typical cinemas 2.40 ratio look. Now that we have this with even affordable anamorphic lens, people are complaining for a more square look.
Just shot commercially today (still and video) with the new z6iii, alongside z8. (I also work with a z9) in actual real life, I don't see visible difference with DR. What I find much better is the viewfinder and stabilisation, outstanding ! (and I've also owned 4 A7bodies, so I'd say the stabilisation is the best I've seen so far. I haven't played with chasing fast moving targets. I've also appreciated the 2nd native 6400iso; I reckon we'll see improvement in low light performance. PS: what I find combursom is the swivel monitor, that is knocking against the side of my arca L-plate (not custom to the body) I've ordered another L-Plate to see if the problem is solved. Also, I do appreciate the lighter weight on the RS4 gimbal.
Thanks for the review. I've been planning to get one. It's not perfect, I would have preferred not to have the flip screen, and would have preferred the sensor from the ZF for better DR, although this would have meant compromises in speed. Anyway, there's no perfect camera. The Z8 is more expensive and bigger, and the ZF retro styling makes it a niche camera, also has the flip screen. I'll still probably get one.
Great review. Was waiting for it. Seem the camera that Nikon needs in the mid market for hybrid users. This type of cameras make it very though for the M43 system high end bodies as they cover the basic needs of the hybrid shooter. Keep the good work. Seem that Canon and Nikon does the same with 24Mpx sensor solving read speed for 4k@60p video and rolling shutter where Sony with 33 Mpx goes for higher megapixel for the photographers as they have their video focus bodies like ZV and FX series. Good you pointed the typical video quirks. Still work for Nikon on video for future image processor Xpeed 8.
Thank you! It will be interesting to see what Sony and Panasonic will do. I don’t see the Z6 III as a direct competitor to mainstream DSLM’s, so Sony will also go with a faster camera at the cost of sensor performance or introduce something more traditional. Video quirks are definitely not a processing power issue, it seems to. be Nikon’s philosophy to “do” video that way, so I don’t expect that to change.
- It would be perfect for light video work if Nikon included open gate recording at 60p. Even in simple video quality (8bits 4-2-0). - 2025 would be very interesting with the new Sony cameras like A7V and A7S IV and Panasonic S1H II and some new Canon midranger.
Expecting this kind of specs improving from Z6 II to this Z6 III for the upcoming A7V. Sony needs to catch up and consider the prices. Awesome video as always!
Thank you! It isn’t necessarily specs improving, as I have explained, this is IMO more of an alternative to A7 IV / S5 lines rather than competitor. Z6 III is superior in a lot of ways, but the output quality basically on non-BSI APC-S level in terms of DR. It will be interesting to see what will Sony do.
Up the framerates by a bit, up the DR to full frame and publish the whole thing as the a7S4? The a7 line has taken the path to somewhat higher megapixels and I don't think that high framerates are a priority for that camera line. That is more a job for the A1/A9 lines
@@hendrickziegler8487 Yes,I agree. Sony is walking another route as Nikon and Canon in this segment. Nikon and Canon goes to route of improving speed at 24Mpx, but Sony goes with the A7IV range for pixels and dynamic range. Video is covered by ZV and FX series. Speed is the territory of A1 and A9. As Sony has bigger marketshare hence they have room to differentiate and bring specialized cameras.
@@nicolas8336u Sony will not drop prices as they see themselves as the Apple of cameras. Everyone wants their cameras, so it does not make sense to drop prices.
@@angeloplayforone The A7 IV is now almost 3 years old, so I would say that Sony is not not "this route" yet :) we will see what route they choose with the A7 V.
The quickest way to go to auto ISO is by holding the ISO button on top of the camera and turning the front dial. Front dial turns the auto ISO on and off while the real dial can adjust the ISO manually. You will need to go into the menu to set the ISO limits however. Great review of the camera.
Maybe unpopular opinion but as someone who mainly films slower events and short films, I actually quite like the slower, smoother Nikon autofocus for video
I've shot over 300 commercial short videos and have never had a CFexpress card fail... this been said, I'm sure it can happen ! I did have a CFast Angelbird card fail on a BMPCC6kpro, I sent it to them and they wetransfered me the data within 24hours, and sent me a brand new card with 12 month warranty :)
Nice review. It feels like Nikon is becoming a company that is driving the photo/video equipment market and competes well with Sony. I'm very curious what Sony will release in response to this)
Thank you! They are far from driving the market but they are indeed making some very interesting cameras at the moment. I am curious to what will the A7 V bring.
You don’t need to menu dive go set auto ISO. Press and hold the iso button and then turn the front dial. Boom. Auto ISO. And if you’re street shooting and using an auto mode, use centre weighted metering or matrix metering but aim at a bright area, lock exposure (half press) and then recompose. If you’re not a Nikon shooter, small things like this get missed in short term reviews for YT.
@@TheHybridShooter nikon is a japaneese company, they dont know much about english it seems.
