Nice overview. One correction about batteries, regardless of the third-party situation: both cameras support the higher capacity EN-EL15c (actually, Z6 does as well). The C version is not new to the Z6III at all, it was released in 2020 with the mark2 cameras. The only difference between Z6II and Z6III, in terms of their battery compatibility, is that Z6III drops support for the first version of EN-EL15 (with no letter suffix).
Thanks for the comment - perhaps I wasn’t clear I meant more that the Z6III blocks most third party batteries including C variant versions. You’re correct re the older EN-EL15 - same thing I’ve experienced in my Z8 (much to my dismay) Thanks for clarifying 🙂
I upgraded from from Z6 to the Z6iii. I am only getting use it for video but has blown me away. Photo shooting, enough can't be said for how much faster it operates. It's instant operating just like a DSLR. The electronic shutter scans fast enough for almost any thing you will shoot. But it's great to have a real shutter if you need it. I paid full USA asking price back in September, took it on two trips already and it has more than proven its worth the money.
Good info! It's worth noting that with Dynamic Range, at ISO 800 & above there is no difference as compared to the Z6II, Zf, etc. due to its dual-gain sensor. Personally I don't notice a difference even below ISO 800 as well, and I shoot a ton of low-light stage events. I wish the Z6III had a tilt screen, but I understand why this particular body has a flippy. They both have some advantages, depending on use case.
Happy new year. Six months ago,i bought the Z6 II,(used). By using the FTZ II, i use the old lenses. Can i mount one new Tamron 150-500 F/5-6,7 Di III VC VXD without the FTZ II,or go for the more expensive Nikkor Z 180-600?
The Z6III would still require the FTZ, it’s a perfectly fine setup with your tamron lens but having spent some time with the 180-600 last year, I’d strongly suggest switching to that if you can.
Dual card slots (important for paid events) and the ability to use a vertical grip with the II was huge and worth it for me. The entire Z6 line is amazing, currently using the III. I should add the latest firmware for the original Z6 really made some improvements to AF / tracking.
@@csc-photo oh for sure; the firmware updates on the original Z6 and Z7 were nothing short of miraculous. There’s so little difference between the Z6II and Z6 now.
I just made a huge mistake of watching a bunch of TH-cam videos where they review the Z6 III. Conundrum city. I recently got a Nikon Zf and I’ve been looking to aquire a second backup body, that's affordable and takes my Z mount lenses. Honestly, I’ve been leaning towards the Nikon Z6II, but with the recent price drops the Z6III is not much more and is appealing also. It would be a financial stretch though, and would leave me with no room for glass. However, if I sell the Zf, I could get the Z6III, some more Nikon glass and breathe easy. Here’s the thing, though. I really feel attached to my Zf. I sold my beloved Fuji XT5 to get it. But maybe it’s time to move on from nostalgia. I still have my Fuji X100V, which is beautiful and I’ll never sell that. So maybe that’s my refuge if I must have nostalgia. I love my Zf, but the Z6III looks like the best camera Nikon has made in years. And I’ve been shooting Nikon since 1984, when I was gifted a Nikon FE for my 13th birthday. Which again, goes back to why I love the Zf. It’s spectacular. But so is the Z6III. I really can’t decide. Sell the Zf & get the Z6III or keep it & get a Z6II? I know it’s not the fastest but my subjects are slow moving targets. For context, I shoot portraits, headshots, and occasionally a family session. Posed, poised, calculated. But my camera pays part of my rent. It’s a piece of my livelihood. And my heart. What would you do? Anyone in here give to the Z6 III from the Zf? And anyone in here vote I should keep my Zf and go Z6II? Have both? I have analysis paralysis. Head : Sell Zf, get Z6III. Move into the present. Get glass. Heart: Keep Zf, get Z6II. Rock both. Any thoughts or advice appreciated.
Ok, here’s my view, and you might not like it. To me it honestly sounds like you’re trying to convince yourself to buy it. Absolutely the Z6III rocks. It does. But do you need it? It sounds like you don’t do video, and that is where the Z6III absolutely excels. Over the Zf, beyond ergonomics and the faster sensor read (which you seem to hint at not needing) you aren’t actually adding much. Will a Z6III objectively help you make more money or offer other services that you want to offer? Is photography your main job? If not, do you need a backup camera to that level? Would a Z50 cover you as a backup? Or even a Z6? Like if we are talking backup, not main camera, it’s only to be used if your Zf fails; how likely is that? In that case does the Z6 or Z50 actually fill that role really well? Now, if it’s more of a case that you want another camera, would a Z7/Z7II be better? Would that add higher res imaging that you’d fine useful for your type of photography (portrait style)? If you want me to convince you to get a Z6III I’m not sure I would. If you really want to step up in future I’d wait a bit and aim towards a Z8, that is something you might even find you can grow into - the Z6III I don’t think would offer quite the same but ask yourself if it’s what you really want 🙂. But feel free to ignore me, I absolutely have a terrible habit of buying gear because ‘new and shiny’ so I can’t really objectively tell other people not to 😉
If you are solely doing landscapes or architecture, the Z6ii is perfectly good. For everything else, I would upgrade. In fact, if I was doing architecture, I would have the Z8 and skip the Z6iii. If you are like me, I like the feel of a big camera in my big hands, the Z9 is harmony.
I kept my Z6ii after I upgraded because it's perfect for Astro modification. Before that it was very capable of people AF but one area that needed work was the lack of bird AF which my Z8\Z6iii does quite well.
In UK and Europe the price has been temporary reduced down by $/£500 down to £1999 - a good buy and same RRP as the Mk 2 - was disappointed in my upgrade from Z6 I to Z6 II was expected more from the double Expeed 6 chips but was let down; only got a smile back on face when sold my Z6 II for Z9 and manage recently in Nikon sale to pick up the excellent Z6 III - a worthy upgrade to Z6 I.
I absolutely understand your experience. I had the same from the Z6 to the Z6II… I expected more from the firmware updates but never got them. The Z8 filled the void for me
Thanks

Agreed, I miss the tilt screen on the Z50II as well :/

I think that’s a fair assessment - I must say the Z9 is lovely but the size of the Z8 works better for me - even if I’d love the longer battery life 🙂
