Me too. Bought my 100 in 1981 for $350, which was high back then. I've hunted just about everything there is to hunt here in the Eastern US. I even deer hunted with it one year using slugs. Not ideal but it can be done. The SKB's are tough as nails. Only problem I ever had was the the usual stock cracks at the scalloping. I ran a lot of high power turkey loads through the gun. Mine is bored Imp/Mod. I used the Mod. barrel for turkeys. Just a great gun; points, handles and shoots. She's no cabinet queen, and sure doesn't look new anymore; years of busting brush have given it plenty of honest scars. Funny story: I never liked the chrome trigger. I assumed it to be chrome plated steel, so I took the trigger out and brought it to work and dropped it into a bath of 'aqua regia' (nitric/sulfuric acid solution). Took the chrome off all right but underneath was aluminum, not steel. Uh oh. Aluminum doesn't last long in acid. Oh well. So I bought a used gold plated 200E trigger and put it on. Looks a lot better than the chrome to my eye. Cheers!
@@jonmacmillan4620 Yeah I bet. Seems like you could use steel shot in one because of the chrome bores? I've never tried it; I stopped waterfowling before steel shot was mandatory. Is your gun bored Imp./Mod.?
@@ancientheart2532 I've never tried steel in my Model 100. Mine is also choked IC/MOD, and I suppose one could *get away* with shooting a few steel shells thru it without damage, but if I had to, I'd rather spend the extra few dollars and shoot bismuth or another of the lead alternatives.
Just bought a very clean skb model 200E , its just like this one, straight stock except it doesnt have the 1" soft buttpad , has a solid buttpad . I read somewhere that skb imported these from japan themselves in the 80s , the ithaca 200e has a pistol grip stock ,
A very enjoyable video, thank you! I'm taking my wife and my twin daughters clay shooting for the first time on Saturday 14/07. I hope they're as good at it as they are at target shooting. I can't wait!
They were bloody great! They used a 12 bore o/u which was a bit big but they were hitting doubles within 10 minutes of starting!!! I'm so proud of all three of them!! Now they want to go back!! Great!!
Typical Japanese, very high quality for very little money, far better than any of its European competitors in the same price category.great video again John.regards
Its a bit sad that side by sides are so out of favour, they handle really well, and are usually lighter than a similar ou. People don't even consider them when buying a gun, its straight to ou or semi auto. I have an old british made sxs, and shoot everything with it, game and clays.
So, could you name a few side by side schotguns which can handle steelshot (so with the fleur the lis stamp) Here in the Netherlands we can only use steel shot sadly...
I’m fairly certain that the new sxs from longthorne gunmakers is proofed for superior steel. However I wouldn’t be surprised to hear berettas sxs being steel proofed as well.
Same here...I've had a model 100 for years. Excellent "do anything" shotgun.

@@ancientheart2532 I haven't tried slugs in mine, but it slings OO buckshot pretty well in the South Jersey deer woods.

I have a first edition one with a gold trigger and silver engraved action in 20ga. Great gun for rabbit hunting and skeet shooting.
Just bought a similar 12
I have one of these with a pistol grip, absolutely love it to pieces
Excellent condition SKB 200 or 280's in the US are going for $1500-2200 these days
😳

I have a 200e chambered in 12. I want a 20. Absolutely love that gun.
yup agreed - the sleeper shotgun of the late 20th century. Wow 200 pounds...obviously the market there is much more reasonable than the US.
I have a 12 and a 20 love them both

Yes the old nikko, miroku and skb guns were really good, but being japanese that should be no surprise. They make things properly.
Such a well built gun, just a shame parts are a hard one to find nowadays
The Gun Shop I wonder if SKB under over spares would more available then?
I recently purchased an LC Smith, what are your thoughts on them and how they hold up today?
1:58 At first I thought that was etching, either way it's pretty cool.
Great looking old gun. Talking of great looking, where has Karina gone? ;-) Seriously though, another great video.
Im sure we can slip her into the next vlog

Great video. Very informative.
Thanks

How would you rate these against the AYA Yeoman?
Jon could you tell me how much would it cost to have a Beretta 686 sporter over and under which is opp. 25 years old have the chequering done.
How bad is the chequering currently?
getting smooth after years of use.
Keith Haynes around £200 I expect to bring her up better than new
thank you but at 73 years old it will have to see my time out again thank you.
Hiya, is this still for sale?
Not this particular gun no
