Dermot Morgan was only 44 when he recorded this. Sadly he passed away just two years later. And it's interesting to see that Eddie Izzard looks pretty much now how he did here, 27 years ago.
Here’s an interesting fact. When then-BBC liaison Janet Street-Porter read the script of Red Dwarf Gunmen of the Apocalypse she found the concept was stupid, didn't feel it could be feasibly done and ordered that the episode be scrapped. Unfortunately for her, by the time the memo arrived, the episode had already been shot and was in the midst of post-production, it went on to win an international Emmy Award, and is still regarded as one of the best episodes among fans. So I’ve never really been a fan of Janet Street Porter.
Thanks so much for posting, I’d probably have watched this live and might have recorded it. (Too many tapes from 1979 … onwards!) As others have pointed out, I had a ‘bit of a cognitive dissonance moment’ when Ian said ‘Diana and car crash’ in the same sentence. (I believe young people call it a WTF, or something like that.) And Dermot - bless him, sadly missed.
If he'd looked after himself and checked his Heart then I do believe he'd still be around today. He would have guest hosted Have I got News For You on a number of occassions and his stand up shows would have sold out Arenas like the O2 in London. Alas it was not to be. RIP Dermot Morgan.
@longlovesretro goddamn. So he did call it..... I don't think you got what I said. I know she died afterwards, but he mentioned Diana and a car accident. Hence "did Ian call Diana's accident"
God this show was SO good. But people were talented, then. I love how Diana was fair game, now she's this ridiculous uber untouchable "don't you joke about OUR Diana.." yawn.
That was terrible..no fun,camaraderie,..ŵas so looking forward to seeing n hearing Dermott's sense of humour..glad Ial was there..can't wait till this year's episodes come on...
RIP Dermot Morgan...
Down with this sort of thing

@@Colgan1you appear to have misspelt "ting' 😳🤣🤣🤣

Eddie dresses the same, but he looks really really old now.

@@longlovesretro its amazing that you managed to find a tape from 1996! Do you have other stuff from round that time on tapes?

What Michael Kitchen in Goldeneye called The Evil Queen of Numbers.
good old days !
I watched this to see Dermot and was annoyed by Street porter, she just doesn’t stop talking…..
totally agree, I recorded this at the time cause I was a big Ted fan and was the first time I came across her
Was she aware of that. Trite innuendo a la Merton.
Well Janet must have stopped talking because others certainly managed to talk.
The woman with a face for radio and a voice for print.
Gob on
I remember watching this with my Grandmother. And she said "That MAN has nail varnish on!!!"
Damn it, her name's Janet!!
God rest Dermot, also known as Ted Crilly. ✌️😇

Thanks again for delivering Brexit, Eddie.
Odd to hear all the talk about Diana and car crashes a year before she died.
{:o:O:}
At 5:14 Ian Hislop seems to predict a road accident involving Princess Diana. 16 months later, history changes.
yep it is kinda scary
5:04 what on earth is going on inside JSP's mouth?!
More teeth than a caveman’s necklace
Gwan Dermo .. 🥰
what season/episode is this ?
5:17 Yikes!
5:12 that aged well

this was filmed before she died
@longlovesretro no way! I wouldn't have guessed that

He missed a season as he was filming some remakes of classic Hancock Half Hour shows for ITV
Eddie ruled that one.
The show that invited inexperienced comics on so they could ad lib and embarrass everyone
Anyone who "lets down the Royal Family" is hated
...that's a quick way of describing British patriotism.
The show never recovered after sacking Angus Deayton. Is Eddie Izzard supposed to be a comedian?
its still going strong now tho
I sat through round one which was total gob shite I’m outta here.
Why does Janet look hot ?
Pretty bad the attacks on Princess Diana. Just shows you how satirical comedy can go wrong.
