I really enjoyed this series of videos, Oliver. My wife and I are looking at getting an EV and the Corsa-e was on the list for a runaround 👍
Thank you and I'm glad it was useful. I'd probably not recommend the Corsa-e goes on your shortlist though. At least not until Vauxhall more publicly acknowledge there being a known fault and maybe put it out to a recall.
Urghhh! Just stumbled accross your content as my Vauxhall corsa E is showing exactly the same fault, first the car wouldn’t unlock, then it was leaking through the boot (another known fault, which I had to pay for!) it first showed the traction fault last week then completely broke down at a junction last week! I traded in my very reliable 15 year old Astra for this lemon of a car because I drive up a smart motorway each day and understood electric vehicles were more reliable 😂!! I am only a year and half into a 5 year PCP agreement so am locked in for the foreseeable at an inflated price! 😢
Oh no, sorry to hear that. Most electric cars are far more reliable on average than a petrol/diesel car, but just like with any product you can buy out there, there are still some absolute lemons. For example, MG sell one of the most reliable EVs available based on many surveys and experiences - the MG5. They also sell one of the most unreliable ones too according to the same surveys, which I own - the MG4! I've not had any real trouble with my MG4 yet though luckily apart from a creaking brake pedal which was quickly resolved under warranty.
When ours had this same problem just over year ago, it took 7.5 months to get it back from the dealer. We had to SORN it as it was still with them as the car reached its 3rd birthday. We finally got it back in January, and it's been fine since. The one plus side was that the loan car was a Corsa electric and we ran up over 7,000 miles on it, so it made our own Corsa a relatively low mileage model.
I'm glad it's all fixed, I hope it stays that way for you!
Wow....my Vauxhall e is having the same issues despite having been " fixed" once.....it's been ongoing for months now!! Aggghhhh.....so interesting watching your experience. Mine has only done 18,000 miles, just four years old, disappointing to say the least!!! 😢
Oh no I’m sorry to hear about that. I loved the Corsa e until it had that fault, a lovely car to drive. But I now have an MG4 instead and it’s so more accurate on its range estimates for starters, no problems charging in public, and it’s slightly bigger.
Got the same problem as you in may 24 in Italy, mine is Opel with extended warranty. Climate compressor fault Valeo model, they replaced it and everything fine. But, in July here was really hot around 37 degrees and the car stops with red triangle on display. After half an hour it starts again and never happened. Assistance told me that the compressor works also for cooling down the batteries, and with this hot it stops like a protection status. Out of warranty it would cost aronud 1600 euros, so I'm glad they did it for free for you. I wonder that Vauxhall made this move out of warranty really professional.
I’d not heard that about it cooling the batteries
Your dedication to the cause is admirable, Mr Geek 😊
Jumping back to a known ICE alternative would be for lesser mortals but both feet in for another EV is tenacious, indeed.
The issue with the car was something that could happen with any type, whether that's ICE or EV. The driving experience, ease of use, and running costs of an EV are just so great that it would take something much more than this to make me go back.
The good news with EVs these days is that there are plenty more fish in the sea (models/manufacturers).
We had a number of faults come up on the dash of our Corsa-e.
Traction control, Hill Start Assist, ABS, etc.
Took the car into Vauxhall, and they said it was corrosion on a wiring loom located near a rear wheel.
Unfortunately, they were on back order, and the car sat at the dealer ship for 2 months. Each week they would give me an update and told me there were 15 other cars in the car park waiting for the same parts.
Could have been the same thing, sadly I don't think I'll ever find out exactly which wiring loom was replaced now though!
@SpeakToTheGeekTech I'd imagine it was. For traction control to work, the computer needs to know the speed of each wheel. Apparently, there was an issue with water getting into the connector in the wheel well and corrodes the pins.
@SpeakToTheGeekTech we've switched to a Jeep Avenger EV now (Although that is basically a Mokka-e/e2008
I had a minor scrape with my e-Corsa, and the garage give me a 6-speed manual petrol Corsa! Interesting contrast. Going up the high street in Marlborough, I realised I'd forgotten how to do a hill start with a manual gearbox! No harm done, but it was a tense moment 🙂
I know that feeling!
I’ve been looking at getting a used EV early next year and really like the E-208. I understand that it’s essentially the same as a Corsa under the hood and have seen lots of similar stories online. I just don’t think EVs are reliable yet and there is not the repair knowledge yet so going with an ICE / hybrid.
Please don't be put off getting an EV by this story - EVs are incredibly reliable compared to ICE vehicles on the whole. I would perhaps steer you away from Stellantis brands (Vauxhall, Peugeot, etc) due to my experience, but there are so many other brands out there available. If you're after second hand, have a quick look at EVM's latest video th-cam.com/video/N6IfJzc1Ujg/w-d-xo.htmlsi=rRKc9hsVR8Vv3Kzu and if you're after new then there's even more choice. Kia and MG both have 7 year warranties for example. A hybrid is the worst of both worlds so I'd avoid unless you really have a niche use-case. I now have an MG4 and love it and I'm even working out how I can replace my diesel Dacia Duster with an EV too.
honestly, im one of the people that has had it fully stop on the motorway, most recently 3 days ago, it fixed itself after half an hour powered off, but much like you said, I'm not sure have faith in it anymore. I'm likely going to call up the place I got my lease from ask ask if there is a way I can swap the car for a more reliable one, even at a reduced loan amount (EVs have dropped a fair bit in the last year) . the corsa has been great, its wicked to drive, nippy and agile and smooth, but it just has too many electrical gremlins
Yeah it was a lovely car to drive and gave us 44k brilliant miles. And then it went sour on us. I'm glad we didn't have it full stop on us and I hope you were ok!
@@SpeakToTheGeekTech we were fine, but it happened 20 meters before the entry of Dartford tunnel, breaking down in the tunnel would have been devastatingly terrifying for the passengers
Smart move. We had the AC compressor go in our Zoe - £1,500 bill. But that just made a lot of noise and thankfully didn't cause any electrical issues. I wonder if it is the same Denso compressor?
Too late for me to check now! I didn't even get the promised paperwork from Vauxhall actually - they were supposed to email me a receipt for the work done and parts replaced.
0:45 I can appreciate your comment - my Ioniq went in for some warranty work and the garage gave me a Peugeot 3008 diesel manual as a courtesy car.
Fine (although I loath SUVs) but I'd not driven a manual for 20 years! Manoeuvring out of their tight car park could have been very expensive! 😆
That’s a long time to go without manual practice! I managed ok but I did keep clipping my feet together when I used the clutch and brake at the same time. I think the Corsa’s pedals are especially close together as I’m only a size 8
@@SpeakToTheGeekTech I ride manual motorcycles - but prefer to drive automatic cars.
I just found your videos by chance… I too had this fault but unfortunately the locked in park/can’t move variation.
My car has taken… get this… SIXTEEN MONTHS to repair and still is in the garage!! Thankfully I had the extended warranty because mid last year they’d already spend over £10k in parts.
Currently I’ve been waiting about 3+ months for someone at Vauxhall to ‘dial in’ and now apparently they need to replace the traction battery too.
Just beyond disgusted with the entire situation and completely put off Vauxhall for life. I’m now waiting for the Ombudsman to handle it and hopefully get me some of my money back and get me out of this finance trap with Stellantis (who won’t let me terminate until it’s fixed…)
Oh no nightmare. You’d think consumer rights would apply that the repair must be completed within a reasonable time and I’d say it’s beyond that now! You have a strong case for small claims against them I’d suggest.
@@SpeakToTheGeekTechI can’t help but feel like because it’s been so long everyone has just given up trying… the garage rarely keeps me updated anymore and Stellantis never responded to my complaint. Each month that passes is more money coming from my bank that could be going towards a better vehicle.
I’m glad you’re in a new car and having a much better experience. Thanks for posting the videos, it’s reassuring to know I’m not alone with this fault.
thank you for sharing the story. did you note the faulty AC compresssor part number and was it different after replacement? it is common issue in corsa-e and Opel dealer in Poland wants 2000 gbp for new AC compressor after the warranty, Opel community discovered it is a faulty Valeo compressor made in China but PSA did not make any official service recall.
I didn't check sorry, with hindsight I probably should have to make a note for others but it's too late now.
Opel in Poland admits the problem. Just make sure your dealer rise a request with Opel. They replaces AC compressor free of charge even after warranty to something like 6 years and 100k km.
Part numer changed somewhere around 2022 so if you have order car the part number will change
I have this message 3 months out of warranty. Had the on board charger replaced £3500 ( not paid yet) apparently it still has problems. But the dealer and Vauxhall have no idea what is wrong yet. This has been going on for 10 weeks now and they will not give me a courtesy car.😢
That's not good. I was quite fortunate in they fixed it for me and I had a courtesy car during the repair. I think the issue is that the error message is a default one that pops up for many things which means it's quite tricky to diagnose. It's not great at all though for Vauxhall's reputation - I would personally not be willing to buy another one given my experience with them which is a shame because the car was great to drive apart from that.
All cars have faults but it's down to the dealer themselves on how they carry out the repair process, in this case you've been faffed about by them far too many times which is enough to put anyone off buying a Vauxhall. Was interested in getting an Corsa-E but seems like their dealer network is a right put off.
It was frustrating, but I’ve fixed it now by getting a different car :) I don’t think I’ve ever used a main dealer from any manufacturer that hasn’t annoyed me. The car company that cracks that model open will do very well indeed!
coming to a auction house soon
I honestly don’t know where it is right now but I do know from checking the DVLA site that it’s not yet been taxed
@@SpeakToTheGeekTech ill let you know when it's at BCA.
I sold it just over a month ago, surely it should have gone through the auctions already and be with a dealer somewhere by now?
@@SpeakToTheGeekTech nope, takes about 12 weeks on avg,
Did your AC or heating or climate control stop working?? Or did you just have the fault come on the dash?? Looks like my car has the same issue now..😢
Everything still worked, it was just the error on the dash.
@SpeakToTheGeekTech Thanks for your reply, By any chance did this start happening after you used the Pre-conditioning on the app?
Nope, I used pre-conditioning all of the time in the winter in a schedule to make sure it was nice and warm and defrosted ready for a commute.
I chatted to a Mokka E owner the other day who said it was so bad at charging he swapped it for a different brand of EV. So many trips on the back of a low loader apparently.
I didn’t do that many public charges but a good proportion of them failed, I did dread the wait while it said “connecting to vehicle”
Well TC is 2 encoders on 2 wheels (or 4 on 4wd), wires and an ECU or separate box.
It is mostly the sensor covered in crap, a dead sensor (knocked off by debris) or the wiring harness (or broken connector). Sure, sometimes a fried circuit, but I would say it's not usual.
While there are a lot of problematic things on an EV (e.g. the BMS and software), the TC is literally as complex as an Arduino with a light gate and a disc with holes on it :) .. OK maybe a bit more :) lol.
I think the reported error was unrelated to TC in real life. My guess is their error detection runs through a list of things and TC is at the end of the list so if the error is unknown, that's what gets displayed! Given other software issues in the car then that sort of poor if/then coding would't surprise me
❤amazing
Peugeot dealership being from the PSA group are no better. They are ready to take your money but their workmanship is dire. We had a massive software up just before the end of our warranty which caused other issues that the local garage says were unrelated 🤡
Stellantis are no good at electrification. We are looking at an Ionic 6 now with a 7 year warranty or possibly a Model Y LR with a 5 year warranty.
The Ionic 6 is getting great reviews, totally different class of car though really in terms of cost and size.
The trilogy continues, box set incomming.
The power of three!
@@SpeakToTheGeekTech RWD or long range 😉
How much did you get get from WBAC in the end? I threw my 2021 on there and they are quoting 8.6k which bonkers low, brought last year for 17k. Debating getting rid of mine due to constant weirdness with it (and gosh the app is shockingly bad). Latest was an ESP/ASR + collision detection warning, instantly cleared once I started driving thankfully.
It was very low, so I tried to use Carwow auctions. The offers on there were even lower so I went back to WBAC.
I hate dealing with dealerships. They are all abysmal, no matter the brand. Sales _and_ garage sections. With car technology being the way it is now and will continue to get, local garages will not be able to keep up (or afford the training and buying the manufacturer-specific diagnostic trolleys) and we will be forced to deal with dealerships more. Argh.
Yup, you're probably right! Get your tyres, brakes and suspension done at a local garage, everything else at the main dealer :( The MG4 doesn't even have a paper service book to be stamped, it's all digital in-car!
Hello, I have a question, what year is your Corsa? And did you pay for the diagnosis at the Service? I have a 2021 Corsa and I have the same problem, he told me £139 for the diagnosis, was it the same for you, I should add that I am from Bristol ... best regards
I was told I would have to pay for diagnostics, but once they did them they said it was covered by a special plan from Vauxhall so everything including the courtesy car and diagnostics was free of charge. It was a late 2020 model.
thank you for your answer… I have an appointment at the service on 2/9/24 so I will let you know when I find out more… thanks again for your answer and best regards
@SpeakToTheGeekTech same model as mine....same issue and having trouble getting it fixed. I have an extended warranty but apparently it doesn't cover electrical faults!!!! seems to be more than a coincidence here, now this morning Vauxhall customer care are not taking phone calls.....extremely frustrating!!
@@deniserichards69 hello mate, I only dealt with this problem last week, they replaced a new air conditioning pump, topped up the gas and also some sort of air conditioning filter. Of course, there were some problems at Vauxhall headquarters! the service was not nice as always! they demanded payment for the diagnosis plus the air conditioning filter! of course I did not agree because Autocare Arnold Clark told me that they would cover the costs of diagnosis etc. long story never again Vauxhall as a car! next car Tesla
Oh don’t you just love garages? Sounds like you had the full gamut of reasons for the car not being fixed, apart from “we’ve had to order a special left handed spanner for your car” 😂
How we WBAC price-wise for the e-Corsa? We used them once and they took so much off the price at the “inspection” it was quite annoying
I tried to sell via CarWow auction first and it basically didn't sell - there was one offer and it was really low. WBAC was higher, they did knock me down about £700 once they looked at it, but the price was still higher than the CarWow offer so I took it. My replacement car was about to turn up a few days later and I didn't want an overlap.
So accepting that your local Vauxhall dealer could have communicated better with you, in hindsight, would it have been better to go straight to them for a fix than the third party repair shop? I imagine the whole thing was very frustrating. My wife had an e2008, 3 year warranty worried me a bit too, Hyundai/Kia much more like it!
With hindsight, yes that would have been less hassle to go straight to them. However if you've watched the series from the beginning you'll see that my assumption was Vauxhall would charge a hefty fee to resolve based on what other people with the same fault had mentioned on the speakev forum. Luckily, it seems that their issues actually mean Vauxhall were aware of the issue and had a special-case fund for the repair of it... hindsight is a great thing!
@SpeakToTheGeekTech Indeed. My Ioniq 5 got rear ended last year, over £5k worth of damage. Insurer (LV) wanted to use a regular repair place but I insisted it went to the local Hyundai dealers bodyshop. Cost another £200 on excess but worth it as paperwork all in place and some additional issues that cropped up were dealt with under the warranty. At least it looks like new now!
FRF Vauxhall swansea being rubbish and telling fibs? surely not... Sadly nothing changes there :(
I didn't say which dealer it was, I was very careful not to mention it by name ;)
Are you joking. Who would buy a Vauxhall after the absolutely dreadful performance of your dealer? I have a Mokka-e that has just given the same error message (twice) but, so far my dealer has been first class. Let's see how I go.
Am I joking about what?
Enjoy your Tesla 🥹
I'm giving nothin' away!
@@SpeakToTheGeekTech More likely a Hyundai Kona?🙂
@@oliver90owner Well, look, I'm not giving it away because that spoils the fun, but what I will say is that I've already made a video introducing the new car and it'll be made public in a few weeks.
