after watching the video and seeing the mining lazer rip apart an asteroid i don't think it would be very practical. I'd say asteroids are quite vulnerable to most damage forms. If a pick can chip away at an asteroid with ease then a small collision could be devastating, especially if you want to make your main ship out of an asteroid.
@@curtissmith6507 o i thought the same but think of the stealth capabilities or just the most important factor have a amazing looking ship thats part asteroid.
So we need to work on asteroid rail gun ships/device so you can stealthily attack a station indirectly although then you are giving them resources so iffy. Also you could use this method to launch asteroids at a station you have some sort of catcher at to rapidly capture asteroids for recourse although this is susceptible to interception by others wanting to take your cash. So, with this possibility of mining, how long does everyone give the game after launch before someone builds a scale (or 1:1) replica of the TOS Doomsday machine?
Here is my question; is it possible to cut through astroids by using hard materials(like what we use today; diamond or titanium edge cutters) as a option to mining lazers? Or in other circumstances; will bad flying mark itself on astroids?
Currently not possible, unfortunately. Colliding with asteroids can damage the asteroid, but currently only the pickaxe and mining lazers cause voxel damage to them.
It's a seamless MMO with all players on the same mega server, no single-player mode (though there is an offline sandbox that you can play alone or with invited friends). You can also despawn your ships at stations so others can't steal/destroy them if while you're away.
oh this would be interesting. Fire whole asteroids at a station and have a second mass accelerator capture it. Or in desperate times use it as a weapon.
@@kudosbudo they showed hinges pistons and rotors in one of the other vids so I assumed it would be possible with the right combination of parts placement and programming
There is a speed limit at 150m/s planned. Also, space in this game has friction to stop uncontrolled moving objects to save performance, so the asteroid would stop moving after a short while.
Looks interesting, especially 'station pulling in small asteroid' part. However if station can process large asteroid by itself, it is unclear, why it can't do same for small one. And if refined material is more expensive, why bother selling whole asteroid? P.S. I feel like there should 'recycling' among mining job. And maintenance jobs for easy (if small) money.
"why bother selling whole asteroid?" Because it saving you time. If you could in the time you need to cut up an asteroid to sell its refined ores you could go and get another one, then the price for refined ores would need to be double that of the raw asteroid. For that matter at first it will probably be like cashing in whole asteroids, since the fields are relatively close to the stations. But later on when the closest asteroids are gone and you'd need to travel further to get them it'll most likely be more profitable to refine them first and then sell them.
@@MrMelonMonkey I don't think it is that simple. 1. Volume. Even if processed resources are for some reason identical in volume to raw ones, mined asteroid is still smaller than whole one, so you can mine and carry more than one in your cargo, even without removing 'outer shell'. 2. Automation. As I understand a lot of aspects of this game are automatable, be that cargo loading or mining 3. Mining speed. There is very little data, but it looks like processing is more of bottleneck than mining, mining with ship-laser doesn't take long. P.S. Is that 'mining laser' actually 'mining'. or just a cannon to make holes in asteroids? If it is just for holes, than moving whole asteroids will make sense.
@@MrMelonMonkey "why bother selling whole asteroid?" 1. Apparently player is the only one who can collect parts of asteroid at the moment, neither mining beam, nor anything else do the collection. So it is simpler to automate couple 'tugs' than to mine everything manually. 2. Mining beams destroy noticeable portion of the ore and are energy hogs.

I think that would be abused straight away... Unless you make the teams pay half the prize and if your team win then you get the full amount. So you'd have to give say 500Cr,so would the other team and if you win you get 1,000Cr. Otherwise there isn't anything stopping the groups from agreeing to just stand and lose to make the other team just amass free credits then switching roles.
The whole system was completely remade. For example there are no such things as "material purity" and "material processing" anymore. Are they going to be implemented later or they were completely cut out of the game on the early stage?

I too like me some insanely large warships, but I kinda doubt it given that ships would end up having every part of them do physics calculations. But I can't officially rule it out.
You can buy parts and modules to use for building, buy weapons and tools, buy new parts for your robot avatar, or even use the credits to rent your own lot. There's going to be quite a lot of things to spend your credits on. :)
Just two things. 1. Anti-aliasing, something like TAA, is desperately needed. 2. Please dont settle for the usual granite gray flat placeholder UI, choose a more engaging color, pleasant to look at. Really? I kind of got the opposite impression from the trailers. '-' Very early on they showed off functional wiring, a compact and accessible logic system, modular weapons and systems design, a detailed destruction system like nothing else, the ability to grab move and bolt together existing lumps of ships in an easy and practical manner, a practical FTD style blueprint based repair system, physical control panels that visibly react to your inputs, moving hinged sections of ship that would cause a clang implosion if attempted in Space Engineers. etc. Pretty much all of that was shown in the very first trailer, either directly or with strong hints that were confirmed in following videos. I love Space Engineers, but I watch through the initial videos here thinking, "Oh god, I suggested exactly this those and that as features for Space Engineers five or six years ago, and these people are finally doing it." Either way, I'm with you on not being able to wait to try it out.
